Do you guys think that TSMY should advise YDPA to issue darurat? People do not adhere to the MCO, it seems that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Cases are not decreasing.

We need stricter enforcement.

Should our army take over the country temporarily and enforce stay at home orders for two weeks?

I have noticed a particular trend.

Media in those countries which has better success rate in containing the spread of COVID-19 effectively have used the disease term appropriately whereas majority of countries which has failed to do so have used coronavirus term widely.

Naming the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the virus that causes it
Official names have been announced for the virus responsible for COVID-19 (previously known as “2019 novel coronavirus”) and the disease it causes. The official names are:

Why do the virus and the disease have different names?
Viruses, and the diseases they cause, often have different names. For example, HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. People often know the name of a disease, such as measles, but not the name of the virus that causes it (rubeola).

There are different processes, and purposes, for naming viruses and diseases.

Viruses are named based on their genetic structure to facilitate the development of diagnostic tests, vaccines and medicines. Virologists and the wider scientific community do this work, so viruses are named by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV).

Diseases are named to enable discussion on disease prevention, spread, transmissibility, severity and treatment. Human disease preparedness and response is WHO’s role, so diseases are officially named by WHO in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD).

ICTV announced “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)” as the name of the new virus on 11 February 2020. This name was chosen because the virus is genetically related to the coronavirus responsible for the SARS outbreak of 2003. While related, the two viruses are different.

WHO announced “COVID-19” as the name of this new disease on 11 February 2020, following guidelines previously developed with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

WHO and ICTV were in communication about the naming of both the virus and the disease.

What name does WHO use for the virus?
From a risk communications perspective, using the name SARS can have unintended consequences in terms of creating unnecessary fear for some populations, especially in Asia which was worst affected by the SARS outbreak in 2003.

For that reason and others, WHO has begun referring to the virus as “the virus responsible for COVID-19” or “the COVID-19 virus” when communicating with the public. Neither of these designations are intended as replacements for the official name of the virus as agreed by the ICTV.

Cops seek witnesses after Prabakaran’s MPV pelted with eggs

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a police report lodged by Batu MP P Prabakaran that his multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) was pelted with eggs.

“We ask whoever that has any information on this to please come forward and assist us with our investigation,” said Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim at a police mass wedding ceremony at the police training centre on Jalan Semarak today.

It was reported that the white vehicle was pelted with eggs on Friday night while parked behind a restaurant along Jalan Ipoh about 11pm.

Sentul police chief S Shanmugamoorthy confirmed a police report was lodged yesterday.

He said the case had been classified under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and damaging public property, he added

“There has been no arrest so far,” he said.

Last week, 14 NGOs from the Batu constituency had urged the country’s youngest MP to step aside to trigger a by-election to enable former Batu MP Tian Chua to contest again.

On Nov 6, the Kuala Lumpur High Court had ruled that Tian Chua was qualified to contest in the May 9 general election last year.

He had initially been barred from contesting in the general election due to a RM2,000 court fine previously imposed for insulting a policeman.

As a result, the Batu parliamentary seat was won by Prabakaran, a law student, who had stood as an independent candidate.

Disabled, athletes, Orang Asli, B40 on ‘special’ admission track to varsities

PETALING JAYA: Education Minister Maszlee Malik today announced that students under the person with disabilities (PWD) category, athletes, Orang Asli and B40 groups will be placed on a “special” track for admission to public universities.

In a statement released today, he said this move was part of the “education for all” concept, which is based on the philosophy of equal opportunity.

“I am delighted to say that apart from the opportunities given to mainstream students in Malaysia, we have not forgotten these four categories of people,” said Maszlee, who announced this at the Jom Masuk IPT 2019 launch at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn in Johor earlier today.

Personal opinion:

If you wish to help the B40: give them financial assistance, good education and make them competitive to enter universities: then, help them further with financial assistance once they enter public universities.

Education Minister's Maszlee Malik will create a noncompetitive society, we need to propel our human resource development and high IQ people should be given an equal opportunity in view they are the biggest asset in driving innovation and entrepreneurship.

We already have MARA which caters for the bumiputera.
UM, USM, UPM ,UKM and UTM should be independent in making their own intake decision policies because we need the best minds to advance our country in 4th industrial revolution.
Our universities' international ranking will drop further with these policies.

India has implemented high proportion caste based education entry discrimination system which has discriminated against the Southern Indian Bramhins : they are part of a high IQ caste and most of them migrated to USA. They consist of a large portion of US tech entrepreneurs , computer scientists, mathematicians, NASA engineers and professors in high tech fields.

WE will face the same brain drain issue.
We had reversed the brain drain for the first time since 1997/1998 financial in year 2016 with good education and liberal economic policies.

This policy should be studied in detail and careful consideration need to be taken into account of our current productivity level.

Personally : Really sad with current level of intelligence of ministers.

BMI Research gives Pakatan manifesto the thumbs down

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 — Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) election pledges would harm ongoing efforts to cut Malaysia’s chronic overspending and weaken the country’s business environment, said BMI Research today.

In a note critical of the Opposition pact’s promises due within 100 days of winning the general election, the Fitch Group unit also questioned the deliverability of the pledges.

Among pledges in the pact’s manifesto announced this month include removing the Goods and Service Tax (GST), abolishing toll concessions, and writing off outstanding study loans under the National Higher Education Corporation (PTPTN).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak previously said these pledges would cause federal debt to climb to RM416 billion.

“We believe that PH will struggle to implement its ambitious 10 promises in 100 days, with all of its promises being populist and aimed largely at addressing the population’s complaints against the ruling government,” it said in the note.

BMI Research felt that while the pact’s pledges would be popular, their delivery would be detrimental to the Malaysian economy.

Among others, it noted that the pledges did not come with clear descriptions on how a PH administration would pay for any of the measures, many of which would remove existing and vital sources of federal revenue.

“Considering that GST accounts for 17.9 per cent of the government’s revenues and has been growing steadily since the share of 13.7 per cent in Q215, the abolishment of GST would place downside pressures on the government’s revenues.

“The increasing of subsidy payouts would also present additional pressures, with the share of subsidies falling to 5.3 per cent of the total in Q317 from 16.8 per cent in Q210 as part of the Najib Razak administration’s subsidy rationalisation efforts (which started in July 2010),” BMI Research continued.

The unrealistic nature of the manifesto, despite the popularity of the pledges, also made its credibility among voters questionable, the research unit added.

Businesses, in particular, were unlikely to be receptive of the pact’s pledges, especially with existing reports of smaller firms struggling to cope with the current minimum wage, which PH vowed to increase further.

Promises to review existing contracts for large infrastructure projects could also jeopardise the country’s currently balmy relations with China, it said.

China is one of Malaysia’s largest investors and trade partners, and is involved in several key projects that are ongoing or being planned.

“The detailed probe into foreign-funded mega projects could also strain ties with China and potentially alienate the Chinese-majority Democratic Action Party (DAP)’s support base,

with many Chinese supporters having a favourable view of Beijing,” it said.

BMI Research suggested that PH would have done better to focus its manifesto on institutional reforms, which it said had served the defunct Pakatan Rakyat pact well in the previous two elections.

“However, we believe that the implementation of many of these reforms will be extremely challenging, especially since many of these systems were implemented under Mahathir,” it said.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was prime minister from 1981 to 2003, but is now the chairman of PH.
