Bukit Bendera In Penang Recognised By UNESCO As Malaysia’s Biosphere Reserve

Bukit Bendera in Penang has been recognised as Malaysia’s Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA) Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassans shared that the announcement was made yesterday at a meeting of the International Coordinating Council of the 33rd Session of the International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme (ICC MAB)

Calls now made for all actuvities to stop at this prestigious UNESCO site & all hiking/tourism/exercise activity to be banned in order to preserve sanctuary in bossom of Penang heartland.

Singapore Olympic hero Joseph Schooling to do army service as deferral ends

SINGAPORE, Sept 16 (dpa): Singapore's 2016 Olympic champion Joseph Schooling is to swap his swimming goggles for night vision glasses after the city-state's Defence Ministry on Thursday said he would soon begin two years of compulsory national military service.

Schooling, 26, and Quah Zheng Wen, 24, a former Olympic swimming semi-finalist, "will proceed to fulfil their NS (national service) requirements, as they agreed to when they applied for deferment," the ministry announced.

Uncle Kentang gets royal honour!!!!

KUALA LUMPUR: Social activist and philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, better known as “Uncle Kentang”, has received a prestigious award from the Queen of England as recognition of his exemplary voluntarism and service to the community.

Kuan was presented with the Commonwealth Points of Light award by British High Commissioner Charles Hay on Queen Elizabeth II’s behalf in a simple ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.

The 57-year-old said he was surprised when he was first informed of the news.

“When I began this journey of service, my motive was not to get any form of reward or recognition, but purely to make a difference in the lives of those who needed help.

“I was supported in my efforts by a group of wonderful people who put service before self. Getting this award is an honour – not just for me but for my great team of volunteers who share my passion.

“The award belongs to all donors and Malaysians who work hard and support all initiatives taken to uplift the quality of living,” he said, thanking the Queen for the award.

Besides community service, Kuan also provides transport and ambulance services, free hearse and funeral services, for the poor and the Orang Asli.

He also runs a food bank, operates a 12-hour suicidal hotline, helps arrange shelter for abused women and children, and also sets up community policing teams.

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 14): The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has instructed banking institutions to work on the exemption from interest payments for recipients of the bank loan moratorium immediately.

This, the MoF said, will involve recipients of the moratorium from the bottom 50% of all Malaysians, in terms of income, for a period of three months in the fourth quarter of 2021 (4Q21).

This means freedom from interest rate for Malaysia

At around 2am on Sunday, September 12th, two teenagers met their demise after their Proton Wira Aeroback was ploughed into head on by a Mitsubishi Triton which was being driven against traffic at kilometre 8.6 of the Federal Highway.

According to a video taken by a fellow road user at the time, the pick up truck was also moving at a high rate of speed in the middle lane, seemingly unaware of driving in the wrong direciton. Following the high speed collision, amateur video shows motorists confronting the Triton driver, a 24-year old male, asking if he had been consuming alcohol.

He denied this accusation, but later tested positive for marijuana/ganja when being processed by police officers. He currently is being remanded for 6 days while a more thorough investigation is being conducted.

Speaking on the accident, Shah Alam district police chief Baharudin Mat Taib said that the two victims in the Proton Wira, an 18-year old female driver and a 19-year old male passenger, both from Klang, had died at the scene. Their bodies were sent to Shah Alam hospital for a post-mortem.

While the pick up truck driver emerged from the wreckage dazed, but relatively unscathed, a statement from Selangor fire department director Norazam Khamis reveals that first responders took about 30 minutes to extract the deceased victims from the crumpled remains of their Proton Wira.

Police urged witnesses of the accident to contact Shah Alam traffic investigations and enforcement department investigations.

Pada hujung minggu lalu, pihak polis dari Bahagian Siasatan dan Penguatkuasa Trafik telah mengadakan Sekatan Jalan Raya (SJR) di dua lokasi berbeza, iaitu Jalan Sungai Tua - Ulu Yam dan Jalan Batang Kali - Genting Highlands.

Hasilnya, polis telah menahan sebanyak 75 buah kereta, 22 buah motosikal dan dua buah lori di mana 19 kompaun telah dikeluarkan kerana merentas daerah/ negeri tanpa kebenaran dan sebanyak 19 saman telah dikeluarkan di atas pelbagai kesalahan trafik.
