I'm looking to invest my RM10,000 for >5 years in investments other than EPF, ASM, Stocks, Gold, Crypto and MMF.

What would you recommend? and
What would be the things to look out for in your recommendation?

Hello guys! My PerantiSiswa application just got approved and I have some questions that I hope you could help me clarify:

1. How long did it take for you to receive your PerantiSiswa from the moment your application is approved?

2. Can it be delivered to my hometown where I'm studying online instead of having to travel 360KM to my IPT?

3. How much does the entire Tab, Stylus, Cover and Keyboard package worth? Not that I want to sell it (coz I really need it), but I want to gauge how much the Govt is willing to spend on one student.

4. Did you encounter any issues with the Tab?

CNY SOP - Why the kecoh? An explanation.

I wanted to write this as I see people intentionally stoking racial tensions regarding this issue.

1. The issue regarding CNY SOP is the reunion dinner mainly because it is so funny you don't know whether to laugh or cry. There's no problem with other aspects of the SOP - Travelling, street festivals, temple visits, etc.

2. [Intro to reunion dinner]: Reunion dinner is the most important part of CNY which is why it is frequently the main focus in advertisements. Why is it so important? Because of its sentimental value. Children nowadays are so busy with their work/ own family that they rarely (sometimes none at all) visit their ageing parents. This reunion dinner is an opportunity for their children and extended family members to sit down together and have a nice meal. 3. The problem arises when the government sends mixed signals: allowing reunion dinner but restricted to family members living under the same roof. This is essentially a regular dinner. There is nothing special about this. The far-away children and other family members are still far away. You may argue that Zoom is still available. Are all elderly parents professionals in IT? Even if they are, is the experience the same? Definitely not. The SOP also 'allowed' visitations among family members of the 'same house'. Is this what one calls a visit? LOL

4. The government shows that they don't understand Chinese culture when the SOP is set to be in effect from 12-13 Feb. Reunion dinner is on 11 Feb. What about the dinner extending till midnight so it becomes 12 Feb?
(I) If that is the concern, the SOP should not have included 13 Feb coz that's too far off. Or to be safe, they could have easily said 11-13 Feb.
(II) The 'dinner' may actually be 'lunch'.

5. What about Covid and SOP then? The government should've just said clearly that there will be no reunion dinner. We understand the importance of flattening the curve and we know that by travelling to meet our parents/family members, we might be carrying the Virus and thereby risking their lives. It is indeed a sad case but we understand!

6. CNY is a cultural event and not religious. We are not required to visit temples during CNY. Some people do, out of their own volition which has nothing to do with the celebration. So there's no issue with this.

7. Street festivals are a great source of fun but we understand the situation now doesn't permit. So, there's no problem too.

8. It is also extremely funny to allow pasar malams to open. Could we all just meet there instead? LOL [Update: This has been a point of contention for commenters with no funny bone so I have to spell it out expressly that this is of course, a joke. Sekian.]

9. There will definitely be bastards who do not care about curbing the virus. This is just plain wrong and I do not intend to defend them.

10. Let us not be racists living in this beautiful multicultural land that we call Malaysia.

I realise that there is an updated SOP dated 5 Feb instead of the 4 Feb shown here with edited dates. They included the 8th day of CNY which is actually supposed to be 9th and they forgot about the 15th day :') But what I am doing here is explaining the original cause of the hoo-ha.

TL;DR: Chinese are ready to forgo CNY but the SOPs are too funny not to poke fun at.

PETALING JAYA: Two company directors, including a Datuk who was caught on a viral video assaulting a young couple, have pleaded guilty at a Magistrate's Court here to assaulting and causing public nuisance at a steamboat restaurant in Persiaran Tropicana.
Datuk Tan Wai Khan, 42, and Ang Mow Loong, 40, made the plea after the charges were read out before magistrate Nurshahira Abd Salim here on Thursday (Jan 21).

The court, however, fixed April 2 for hearing of statement of facts and sentencing.

According to the first charge, Tan and Ang were jointly accused of voluntarily causing harm by hitting Kwan Pei Chong, 31, at Restoran Steamboat TST, Tropicana Avenue, Damansara, at 9pm on Jan 12.

The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a maximum one year imprisonment or up to RM2,000 fine or both, upon conviction.

For the second charge, they were jointly accused of causing public nuisance to the customers and employee of the same restaurant, at the same place and time.

The charge under Section 290 of the Penal Code carries a maximum fine of RM400, upon conviction.

Tan also pleaded guilty to two counts under Section 323 of the Code for voluntarily causing hurt by hitting to two more victims - Magdalene Wong Chung Yi, 31, and Lee Dek Quan, 25 - at the same place and time.

Tan, however, did not plead guilty to a charge of mischief under Section 427 of the Code.

He was accused of smashing plates and bowls belonging to Kwan at the same place and time.

He faces a maximum 12 months in jail or fine or both, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Zubaidah Mahat offered bail at RM7,000 for each charge.

Lawyer Datuk Suraj Singh, who represented both men, asked for a lower amount as his clients had given their cooperation during investigation.

Magistrate Nurshahira allowed bail at RM2,000 for each charge for each men, which meant Tan was allowed a RM10,000 bail in one surety while Ang was allowed RM4,000 bail in one surety.

I looked up his name on the official registry at isitadat.gov.my. It's there!

Ragging/Bully/Initiation/Hazing during Orientation

Hi, As per the title, has anybody been a ragged (or knows of any ragging stories) during university orientation? Specifically any stories from USM Nibong Tebal (my cousin is going there soon)? I was told by my friends from UM - MBBS Course that ragging still took place in 2018 when they were in orientation. Ragging may mean different things for different people and some may have definitely not faced it. Generally, I would say that it is the doing of completely useless activities done under the guise of strenghtening bonds between seniors and juniors when the actual point is to inflate the egos of seniors by exerting dominance over juniors. Do share any stories which you have. Thanks!

Can anyone help me?

My first option is UM LAW and I was called to attend the interview. After getting the application result today which is a fail (not sure if it's because I failed my interview/ racial quota full / A Lvl qualification quota full? or my A2 results are not out yet.), I decided to appeal but UM LAW is NOT one of the available options @@. However UKM which initially WASN'T is now one of the options @@. Is UKM good overall and specifically for law? Any issues? favouritism? And most importantly do I still have a chance of entering UM? thanks!

Hi, I have been asked to attend an interview for UM's LLB. Can anyone help me with the interview?

*Does anybody know what will be asked?
*Are there anything that I must know before the interview?
*How is the process flow?
*What is the ujian bertulis? Is it like an IQ test ? Anything I need to study beforehand?
*What is the ujian fizikal? Does it involve any exercise @@?
*Is the dress code formal? It's not written anywhere in there.

Courses

1. I got my AS Level results 2 days ago.

2. 3As (Business 88, Economics 86, Psychology 85). I'd try to maintain my As for A2 as well.

3. I don't like maths that's why I didn't take maths in A levels.

4. I am quite interested in Business,Economics,Psychology and perhaps Law (Didn't really think much about it until recently).

5. Interested in Business because I'm interested in the corporate world and would like to start my own business in the future. (Possible drawback: Not much of 'real' knowledge [common sense] and there's so many business grads out there)

6. Interested in Economics because it's rather brain-stimulating and has more of 'real' knowledge as compared with Business. (Drawback: Econometrics will fry my brain)

7. Interested in Psychology because I've always wanted to help others and like to understand the reason behind people's behaviour. (Possible drawback: Hard to earn my rice bowl)

8. Interested in Law because it's free from maths and it's a professional profession. (Drawback: I have no exposure to it- not sure if that really is my interest)

What courses should I take and any recommendations of Universities ? THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!! ^^

9. Private universities are very expensive so I intend to go into public U but I didn't take MUET/IELTS/TOEFL and all Unis require them. What should I do ?

10. UPU application starts in Feb but I won't take A2 until May. Can I still apply UPU ?
