My Review of Thunderobot K104S mechanical keeb

Welcome to my noob review of my 1st mechanical keyboard, a Thunderobot K104S.

This is a full sized 104 keys type of keyboard, not usually associated with mech keebs, but I wanted a size that Im used to and I still have usage for the num keypad.

Just to note that it would be a full review of my brief intro here https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=111709374

So lets get into it.
It is budget mechanical keeb with very basic features that is more thoroughly listed here https://www.lazada.com.my/products/delivery...5462428034.html

Yes it cost less than RM 100 and for a full sized mechanical keeb plus hotswappable feature, I feel it is very worth the money. But it does make do without many keeb features, it isnt a tri connect device only via USB and also it doesnt come with built in battery so its not portable. For my PC use case which is deskbound I dont see this problem but it may be a dealbreaker for others. It also doesnt have a rotary dial switch that many more pricier keebs seems to come as standard these days and it comes with ABS keycaps not the usual PBT.

Whatmore this is an ARGB keeb with both RGB on the keys backlit and RGB light bar at the front foot of the keeb

The ARGB however is only limited to the settings in the board. AFAIK this isnt software programmable but I havent tried to find out yet. Being this cheap I can understand this limitation.

Since this being backlit with shine thru keycaps, one thing I didnt like is the fonts on darker keys will 'disappear' if not lit (its difficult to catch on camera but the view of CapsLock key is typical of darker keys IRL)

I think this is the only downside on my brief usage. I guess I need to get used to it.

Flipping the board over, the base is basic with just the product label to show. On top it has 2 dual height adjustable kickstands, while at the bottom has 3 rubber feets.

As mentioned this isnt a wireless function keeb so I have no idea why it comes with its wired detachable (it uses USB Type C interface)

It makes taking the board out for cleaning much easier tho...

Set laptop auto display to external monitor

Hey guys, im not 100% sure if this is the right place to ask but here is the thing;

My long serving laptop monitor has kaput and now I cannot see what happens when I turn it on. I tried to power ON laptop with the video cable connected to an external monitor but after waiting still no display (monitor goes into power saving mode).

I tried swapping between output VGA and HDMI neither seem to work.

Im well aware external monitors usually can be selected to display in Windows but is there a way to force it to boot display to the monitor instead?

My Review of Scythe Mugen 5 on 12700F (Unleashed)

Heya whats up guys!

Welcome to my long drivel as I review this Scythe Mugen 5 Rev B CPU cooler mounted on my 12700F system and the 'home improvements' I did with surprising results!

Official product page as follows: https://www.scytheus.com/mugen5

A lil bit of backstory, a few months ago I managed to get this Mugen cooler 2nd hand off the used marketplace at a decently low price and I tested the bearing was running smoothly so I scored a good value buy. I am always keeping an eye for good value deals.

However... being a Rev B model it doesn't come with an LGA1700 mount nor thermal paste, and so off I went to Shopee for more bargains & deals. In fact too much bargain as I originally gotten this Thermalright TF4 & while waiting to install I got another bargain deal for TF7. So why not use the better TP instead LOL!

Altogether the cooler + LGA1700 mounting kit + both thermalpaste cost a bit less than RM 100 as compared to a brand new Mugen 5 for about RM 150 and that without the LGA1700 support.

Anyhow, on with the cooler itself.
Holding it, it still impresses me how big & thicc & heavy this chunky aluminum big boi, weighing at 760g alone. With the single Kaze Flex2 fan its approximately 900g!

I can already sense a lot of cooling potential from this big boi!

Asking on watch enthusiast about Mido brand

Hi guys, just curious on the lack of interest for this brand (Mido), as I can't even find an owners tered here.

I read that its Swiss and affiliated with Swatch, but is it actually a brand that enthusiast would stay clear for some reason or another (bad quality, etc)?

From their website its Swiss made and prices seems to be quite affordable for a Swiss but is there hidden catch behind it or something.

Would it be cheaper to buy luxury watch overseas?

Hi watch collectors.

As I would be travelling again after pandemic, I am interested to know if it would be cheaper to buy a luxury watch in overseas (in England/Europe or Japan) vs same exact model in Malaysia.

I know there will be differences in prices due to exchange rate, and some added cost if I were to use CC, but if I could get tax rebated (as a visitor in countries like Japan), would it be cheaper to buy there?

Ohh and to be clear this is not the same as buying online from overseas shops, I mean going to the country and physically buying the watch from a shop.

I am a noob in this watches thingy so give me your thoughts if anyone have tried. Thanks.

Getting Replacement Intel CPU Label Sticker

Here is an interesting titbit to share with Intel system owners!

During my build research that eventually became my Alderlake 12700F main rig (see https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5339043 ) I came across a post in Reddit shared for Intel owners to get replacement Intel sticker label.

The link to get replacement label is here https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/sup...processors.html

So I went thru the process, submitted my proof of ownership as requested, and after waiting a week...

A package arrived via DHL, from CCL Design Suzhou China...

And surprised, surprised... it came with TWO Core i7 labels!

I posted the labels with their part numbers for anyone interested in that info

AFAIK Intel will send labels that are generation specific, so I gotten the Core i7 stickers meant for 12th Gen Alderlake even tho the current gen is Raptorlake.

I am not too sure what the smaller silver i7 label is for, the bigger blue one is clearly for boxed CPUs and system builders. I am guessing its for laptops, tablets, & netbooks.

Okay, measuring both, the bigger i7 label is a square of 18mm long while the smaller sticker is a tiny 9mm long.

It is clear that Intel uses 3rd party sourcing for their labels and allows them to use their DHL account for shipping globally. Hehe

Ostensibly this method is to get replacement Intel CPU labels that are damaged, not included or missing, but as long as you can show proof of purchase...

Anyhow I hope this helps for those who are "missing" that Intel label. Bye for now!

Suitable Wifi Card for my 12th Gen B660M PC

Hi guys,

My Intel B660M PG Riptide PC mobo has an open M2 Key E slot for addin wifi card, but Im in a dilemma which should I go for, either AX210 or AX211. I know that AX210 is PCIE based and AX211 is CNVIO2 and my mobo does support for both types if according to it QVL.

I came to know that CVNIO2 is Intel proprietary and not backward compatible with ori CNVIO (which makes it questionable if it will be forward compatible with CNVIO3 eventually) hence Im leaning to get the AX210 with its more open configuration, as I would have the flexibility to use it on another system. However b4 I buy I want to confirm if Im not leaving any features/performance on the table by going PCIE(AX210) and not CNVIO2(AX211).

Another question, the AX210 comes with Key A-E form factor (has 2 notches) while AX211 is only Key E. My mobo documentation only states it is Key E socket so I wonder if it will also be compatible with the Key A-E type AX210.

Any advice from sifus are much appreciated. Thanks.

My Review of Tecware Nexus Air TG Case

Sorry it took so long but I'm back with my personal review of this Tecware Nexus Air case.

Unlike my Manli RTX 3060Ti review it won't be as long since there are a few build reviews of this case so I will just go into details that I noticed in my build PC.

Here are the specs for anyone interested of course:

Right off the bat, this case I paid RM 184.00 for the tempered glass variant, so its about USD$42 which imho is worth the money as many case reviews for the many features it has these typically go for USD $80-100.

It has tempered glass on one side, although it isn't full height like many of the more expensive cases. So in a way it was cheaper because you do get what you paid for but the thing is, it doesn't feel as cheap as the price suggests.

The case is surprisingly light to carry up considering its size, as I have lifted older mid towers before. It could be the panel thickness is thinner but since its sturdily built it doesn't feel that way. For those who prefer light cases this is a suitable for use.

Exterior wise it comes with the usual features; 2x USB 3.0, power & reset buttons (which can be repurposed for RGB control), separate mic & headphone jacks which is really useful, and the distinctive brickwall pattern mesh front.

Unlike the website images (right) and the online review units, for some reason somehow mine came without the Tecware logo,

Some folks might not like that but I prefer mine's stealthy ninja looks with no branding so its all good to me. Haha

Opening it up I noticed that all thumbscrews (there are 3) of captive type, as you'd usually find on more higher end cases. So that is really good value there as it keeps the screws in place.

Looking on the inside, more higher end features keeps on coming!

Cable routing holes here are all with grommet covers in total there are 5.

You can also see the rear fan mounting has flexy height adjustment holes which can allow better positioning for top mounted AIOs. Most budget cases have only 1 fixed location.

Also I noticed the rear PCI covers are fully detachable with no borders in between and this enables the case to be converted to vertically mount the GPU as seen in their website

However this case is designed to a budget so it does not natively supports vertical mounting, which requires a mounting conversion kit.

I will talk more of the insides in my Part 2...

Heeeyyyy wassup guys!

It has been a while but here I'm back with a personal review of my new Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 Ti from Manli. This is an individual look from my new i7 build right here https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5339043

Manli is probably more of an C-tier OEM maker for more well known B-tier AIBs which I will go into later but since products from this brand lacks any sort of review, so I thought to post this for the benefit of those budget sensitives whom are looking to squeeze every single drop of value from their RM spent (like me, haha).

Okay here is a snapshot of their product page:

Very generic looking, so I will present from my own GPU.

But first here is Manli's packaging box.

A typical standard Geforce box styling of recent generations which does help it stand amongst the store space crowded with B-tier brands like Palit, or Zotac as it means Manli doesn't have to spend a lot of money making an impressive box that has no bearing on the actual product inside.

The rear of the box highlights all the generally important bits for Ampere.

The box ID matches the GPU version with that shown in their product page.

The M2480 ID indicating this is a 3060 Ti from the LHR V2 variant meaning the ori LHR unlocked driver (470.05) would not have worked with this card. Of course now that recent Geforce drivers has the LHR officially unlocked by Nvidia, this doesnt really matter anymore. I havent tried it yet but supposedly it should get from LHR limited 25MH to 60MH with latest drivers.

Anyhow opening the box sees it fills up all that space so no unnecessary wasted packaging or chungous box size.

Paired down everything that could mean extra cost, it is just the static bag wrapped GPU and not even a driver CD or quick manual. Ultra budget focused, I like.

Haha.

Anyhow during the months in between, my specs have largely changed somewhat as below:

Core i7 12700F + RM1 stock cooler (unchanged)

Asrock B660M PG Riptide (15 power phase goodness & works with 4x RAM at XMP)
https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/B660M%20PG%...ptide/index.asp

Teamgroup Delta RGB 3600MHZ 8GB x 2 (saw review it can do 4x 3600MHZ RAMs at XMP)
https://www.teamgroupinc.com/en/product/delta-rgb-ddr4

Where all three were reviewed to be working at full unlocked PL2 comfortably, with 4x 3600MHZ DDR4 ram. Plus aftermarket cooler.
(shout out to Tech Yes City) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3vwAt3J-Sg

Manli Geforce RTX 3060Ti (the manliest card brand whatmore can I say HAHA! But at RM1598 its one of the cheapest)
https://www.manli.com/en/product-detail-Man...+N630)-291.html
https://videocardz.net/manli-geforce-rtx-3060-ti-8gb

FSP HV PRO85+ 650W 80+Bronze (this is the newer 85+ version)
https://www.fsplifestyle.com/en/product/HVPROBR650W.html

Tecware Nexus Air TG (unchanged)
https://www.tecware.co/nexusair

24" LG 24MP400-B (budget IPS monitor, meh 75Hz refresh rate)
https://www.lg.com/my/monitors/lg-24mp400-b

Parts reused:
256GB Adata SP900 SATA SSD (MLC goodness plus my ori Win10 is reused)
4TB 3.5" SATA HDD (internal storage)
4TB WD HDD (external storage via rear 3.0USB)
1TB USB HDD (external storage via rear 3.0USB)
1.5TB Seagate HDD (external storage via rear 3.0USB)
1.5TB Seagate HDD (external storage via rear 3.0USB)
*Maximised my rear USBs LOL

Total cost is a bit under RM 5000. However for the system only (minus the monitor), you could say it is a RM 4.5K system and that is with Alderlake i7 and 3060Ti.

Overall impression, I've been working on these specs since June and making changes along the months until I made the buy so, can I say I am a lil bit disappointed there wasn't any surprises? Maybe. Only the RAM performance did not do as I had expected.

I'll be going into the RAM section to ask some advice about it as my RAM just barely couldn't make it for 3600MHZ.

Anyhow I'm quite satisfied for now but this is not the end as my PC will be a long term work in progress of constant improvements.

I will post some individual parts reviews, benchmarks when I have the time but for now here is my nondescript sleeper PC build.
[attachmentid=11345199]
[attachmentid=11345200]

Interior shot
[attachmentid=11345226]

Stay tuned!

Asking How to Check Ur New GPU is Not a Used Miner

Hi guys, it seems there is currently a mass sell off of mining gears, GPUs and related equipment due to collapse of Eth prices.
Now, im not asking about the mining bit but for those of us who are seeking to build a new PC system, how can we ensure our new build was not conned by retailers who might have harvested "USED" mining GPUs and resell as "NEW" moreso in those build by the shops? This is particularly about those current gen AMD 6xxx or RTX 3xxx/GTX 16xx cards as any older gen 5xxx or RTX2xxx are highly unlikely to be believed if sold as new.

I mean can we trust those shops in LY or DigiMall they will be genuinely selling "BRAND NEW" as advertised?

Which LY or DigiMall Retailer Has Easy Payment

Hi guys, Im looking to build a RM5k PC system with a retailer shop but I want to know if any of them does have installment payment plan, preferably via Maybank credit card or similar. In the past, I bought my gaming laptop with a 12mth installment and it really help to lessen the burden on such big purchases. So it would help a lot if I can do such again.

Thanks.

Asking For Some New Build Advice

Hey guys,
I'm considering building a midrange PC as the above specs, which I target to do around Nov or Dec 2022 when the new Core series & Geforces are out, hoping prices would drop a bit more by then.

Details of the parts below:
Core i7-12700F + RM1 box cooler
Gigabyte B660M GAMING DDR4
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B660M-...-DDR4-rev-10#kf

or MSI PRO B660M-E (I read that MSI mobo has unrestricted PL limit?)
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-B660M-E-DDR4

8GB Gskill Aegis / Kingston Fury Beast nonRGB (depend on which available)
https://www.gskill.com/product/165/185/1567...4-3200C16S-8GIS
https://www.kingston.com/en/memory/gaming/k...ast-ddr4-memory

GIGABYTE NVMe SSD 256GB PCIE3.0 x4 (a local promo with the Gigabyte mobo)
https://www.gigabyte.com/SSD/GIGABYTE-NVMe-SSD-256GB

EVGA 600W PSU BQ 80+ Bronze
https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=110-BQ-0600-K1

Colorful GeForce RTX 3060 NB DUO 12G L-V
https://en.colorful.cn/product_show.aspx?mid=102&id=1848

Monitor will be the cheapest 24" 1080P available

This PC is built to a maximum budget cap so I'm not able to go for the fancy ROG/Mortar/Aorus/etc stuffs.

Mainly for gaming AAA titles @1080P with RT if it does not go under 30FPS, general purpose, light CAD & Solidworks, and perhaps dabble in coin mining to see what's it all about. I'm not gonna OC much, maybe a light one if I could later on but my goal is to keep this system as my main for the next 5-7 years so stability & longevity is key.

My upgrade plan is minimal which is why I spec in the i7 so I don't have to replace it, for the rest perhaps something like; 2023 1H another 8GB RAM stick > 2023 2H/2024 CPU tower cooler(thinking ID SE-224-XT, Silverstone AR12 maybe?) > 2025 1TB(or more?) PCIE 4.0 SSD > 2026/2027 xx60/xx70 level GPU + higher watt PSU.

I'm hoping for some inputs/feedback/comments if such system will last me for that duration (5-7years) with the incremental upgrades laid out. I'm a bit concern if the RAM will be enough (8GB +8 later), but my current system is using 8GB for daily usage no issues unless I loaded Chrome with dozens of tabs.

Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.
