Hertz Car Rental - Traffic Fine

Hi guys,

Anyone has experience with Hertz Car Rental, and getting a traffic fine from the local authority?

- Did you pay the fine straight away or did some digging?
- If you ignored it, did anything happen?
- Is it possible to ask for a reduction or (wishfully) exemption?

So, the story timeline is like this:

Sep 2023
I went to Europe in mid-September 2023. I rented a car with Hertz Germany and drove to other countries such as Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Returned home on 26 Sep 2023.

Dec 2023
In Dec 2023, my credit card was charged for 2 double transactions of €132.51 and €29.75 by Hertz. There was no notification or details what is the transaction. I called my bank and raised a dispute. The charges were reversed.

Mar 2024
Received an email from Hertz with an invoice requesting €29.75. There are no details of what is it for, but only stated that this is an administrative charge for providing my details to the authority that issued the fine. In the invoice, it stated "Issued in Germany", so I assumed this was issued by German authorities but on the "Issued Date", I was not in Germany. So, I emailed Hertz for details of the fine, hoping I could dispute it. It is a PITA dealing with Hertz Germany.

Apr 2024
After numerous emails flying back and forth, Hertz finally shared the scanned copy of the fine. It was issued by "Ungarische Autobahn Inkasso GmbH" or Hungarian Motorway Debt Collection, for unauthorised use of their highway. We didn't know we needed to buy a vignette for traveling on their highway.

I wanted to pay for the fine since it was our fault... But... Euro is so expensive now :'(

Deco M4 Can’t Connect to Internet

I bought a pair of TP-Link Deco M4 few months back. It was working fine until last month when it suddenly lost connection to the Internet. Connection from the Unifi modem is working fine. I even connect my Asus wireless router to the modem and it’s working fine too.

I tried resetting both Deco and try to use each as the main Deco. The setting up went well until it reached the step to try to connect to the Internet. Then the LED in static red.

I finally got them to work when I connect the Deco to the wireless router (Unifi modem > wireless router > Deco). Beat the purpose of me getting this mesh WiFi device.

I tried reaching TP-Link support but they are no help at all (even threw tantrum at me).

Do you guys have any idea what is wrong? Since both Deco have the same issue, maybe my Unifi modem?

Summary of my issue:
1) No changes done to my Internet/modem settings. It was working fine since I installed it until it suddenly stopped working one day.
2) Reset both Deco and try setting up each as main Deco.
3) Setup went fine until the step “connect to Internet”, LED turn solid red.
4) Deco only works when I connect it to wireless router (modem > router > deco)
5) Both Deco are on the latest firmware.
6) I suspect it stopped working after firmware upgrade.

Any insights are very much appreciated!

Thank you!

IDE HDD on a SATA-only Motherboard

Hi all,

I have just bought a new motherboard (ASUS M5A78L-M LX) and I was careless to get one without IDE controller as I have a primary IDE hard disk.

Previously I have a Seagate IDE as my primary hard disk (master, OS installed) and WD SATA as data storage (slave/secondary, no OS installed). So, I used a IDE-to-SATA converter on the Seagate. The board has 2 SATA controller - SATA1-4 and SATA5-6. I've tried connecting to SATA 1 and SATA5 but BIOS is not recognising the drive. Thinking that it might be a faulty slot, I tried connecting WD SATA to both slots and it worked!

I connected the converter and then to the board using SATA cable, set the jumper to Master/Single and swapping between the slots but BIOS still not recognising it.

I googled for alternative/solutions/workarounds, tried a lot but not helping. I have ran out of ideas. Hope someone could shed some lights. Should I get a PCI IDE adapter instead?

Converter - http://site.vztec.com.my/main/4071/index.asp?productid=105807&strDetailView=H&strPD=Y&strWD=Y&AccId=9564

Hi all,

Not sure if this is appropriate but I need some opinion on the above mentioned job post.

My cousin is a fresh graduate in game programming. A headhunter called him for this position. He went to interview today. I'm not sure if this is how the market is nowadays.

The job & company:
- 12 hour shift
- a week, 2/3 working days
- based in Cyberjaya
- Australian company

The package (not really a package) offered:
- RM2000 per month, not negotiable
- direct renewable contract (1 year)
- no other benefits (medical/al)
- no shift allowance

Is this underpaid?

Although I did encouraged him to gain experience first if he interested with the job scope but I resent employers from taking advantages from fresh grads and treat them like a fool.

Thanks in advance!

Can a Linksys WAP54G work with E1000?

I have just bought a Linksys E1000 wireless router as a replacement. This router is located at the top floor of 3-storey house and it is near impossible to get a signal from Ground Floor. Signal can only be obtained from the kitchen at the back or the front gate of the house. Decent signal from rooms at 2nd floor. Initially, I thought Wireless-N would have a wider range of signal but I guess there are too many walls and floors between the 3rd and ground floor.

I have did some reading from Linksys/Cisco website and other tech site but couldn't find a setting in the Router page to configure as a repeater.

My current network configuration:
PC -> Modem -> E1000 ..... wireless ..... 2nd PC and other devices

I can't find an option to set E1000 as a repeater and the only choice that I believe I have is to get a WAP54G. There is an Ethernet port at the back of WAP54G.

So, my questions are:
[1] Can WAP54G work with E1000 as a repeater?
[2] Is it possible to setup WAP54G as a standalone device at my desired location without connecting to a LAN?

Thanks all!

I have another homeplug connected from my brother's room (1st Floor).

Previously it was working fine until recently. My brother is complaining about no Internet connection. There are no light on the "Powerline Activity" LED (the middle LED) on both homeplugs.
Hi sifus..

I've update my bios last week.. using Abit's Flashmenu to version 19 (previous version was 13). I am using a Abit KN8 (NF-CK804). I've noticed, after the upgrade.. my system is a bit slow in responding to my actions (eg. opening a program from taskbar, clicking on start menu or even launching a task manager).

Example - launching task manager.. after right-clicking on the taskbar and selected Task Manager.. it took a few minutes before the task manager appears.

Should I revert back to version 13? I've backup my previous bios before updating.

An extra question - I am planning to test Vista and hoping to do so without any major upgrade on hardware..

Here's my hardware:
[1] Abit KN8 (NF-CK804)
[2] Galaxy Nvidia GeForce 6600LE 256MB
[3] Support up to 4GB RAM - planning to upgrade to 3GB

Sufficient?

PC Infected through MSN

Hi,

My friend's PC in the office got infected when she accidentally accepted the file one of her contact sent to her. Since then, she has been auto-sending the same file to every contacts in her list.

She had deleted the file before scanning using AVG and it turned out 0 threat. The message is like this:

QUOTE

Which one do you like in this pic, the black one or the blue one?

pic (139kb)

When I ignored the invitation, it is a zipped file (pic.zip)

She's not very IT-savvy, is there any tools out there that could help her to clean it?

Thanks!

Maxis - Maximum Talk Time

Not sure if this is a problem or some of their protocol..

It tends to cut me off exactly at 1:30:00..
No matter whom I called to.. but most of my friends are in Maxis network. So far, never try making call to other network.

Is it my problem or what?
