PETALING JAYA: A petition calling on the Education Ministry to bring down the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia’s (SPM) Additional Mathematics passing marks is gaining traction online.

In just 19 hours, over 11,800 petitioners have signed the petition, which targets 15,000 signatures.

Calling for the passing mark to be five, and 50 for an A+, the petition was started by Joseph Tan on Wednesday (Nov 20).

According to the petition, the paper was “too hard” and it took teachers “one hour to complete two questions”.

“The batch of students that sat for the paper kindly request that the government reduce the passing marks for the paper, ” Tan wrote.

On Tuesday (Nov 19), The Star reported that questions were so tough that it left some students in tears after sitting for the paper last Thursday (Nov 14).

Responding to the concerns, Examinations Syndicate director of examinations Adzman Talib had explained that every exam question was based on the curriculum taught to all candidates.

Calling on parents not to worry, he assured them that the ministry would ensure that candidates were treated fairly in all exams.

Separately, a candidate also started a petition for the A+ mark to be set at 50 for History because the format of the paper had been changed.

Another started a petition to reduce the grades for History and Mathematics.

All petitions were posted on change.org.

Otw home from work yesterday, saw a shopee delivery van.
nothing special till i realized the back was full of primary school kids. like 8 to 10 kids. jumping, standing at the back of the delivery van.
So dangerous la. i know nak cari duit makan extra do school transportation business but agak agak la.
if get hit or you jam brake, the kid sure terpelanting. no seat and slippery sommore.

MIRI: A primary five schoolboy who went missing three days ago in a forest along the Bintulu-Miri Pan Borneo highway has been found alive on Friday morning (Nov 8).

Stanley Anyeh, 11, from Rumah Galin longhouse near KM20 of the Bintulu-Miri highway, turned up at the police station in Bintulu on his own at around 10am.

He had gone missing at around 7am on Tuesday (Nov 5) from his home.

The father made a report at the Bintulu police station, saying that the boy was nowhere to be seen after he went to the back of the house to do some chores.

In his report, he said there was a river about 50m from the house.

A search-and-rescue operation was then mounted, with the villagers, the police and the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department searchers combing the forests and river, but to no avail.

Then at 10am Friday, Bomba Bintulu posted its latest update in the Sarawak Bomba chat group, saying that the Bintulu police had found the boy.

"The boy showed up at the Bintulu police station on his own.

"The police are now in the process of questioning him as to what happened," said Bomba Bintulu.

How the boy managed to make his way to the Bintulu police station is still a puzzle, as his house is about 20km from the town where the police station is located.

Bintulu Bomba posted a picture of the boy at the police station looking well.

PETALING JAYA: Fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or better known as Jho Low, is believed to be using multiple Mediterranean and Caribbean island nations passports to criss-cross the globe.

A source said Low continues to make Macau his base but travelled to the middle east and other European countries using these different passports.

“Jho Low has secured a few different types of passports in the last eight years, mainly through the investment-based citizenship schemes as part of a grand scheme when he was involved in Malaysia’s state-owned investment fund 1MDB, scandal.”

His first known investment-based citizenship passport was from St Kitts and Nevis, a tiny Caribbean island nation in the West Indies.Although the passport was issued in 2011, the country revoked his citizenship in 2018 following full-scale international investigations into the 1MDB scandal in at least six countries. In 2015, Jho Low also obtained a Cypriot passport besides a Maltese passport.

“These passports allowed him visa-free travel to European countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and Italy and over 170 countries globally.”

The source also said Jho Low is believed to have obtained the Maltese passport through an investment-based citizenship scheme.

Henley & Partners, a global passport and citizenship broker which Low engaged to secure his Cypriot passport, said the source, was also the sole agent for the sale of Maltese passport.

The source said Jho Low had no problem making multi-million dollar investments

in properties in exchange for these passports, adding that Low could fly in private jets and evade detection by going through temporary Immigration posts at private VIP lounges where he could easily get his traveling document endorsed.

“In some places, like in the Middle East and several European countries, where these posts are handled by immigrant agents, Jho Low was not required to be present with his passport.”

The source said the posts at these private VIP lounges were not equipped with a sophisticated biometric scanner or linked to the main servers to conduct thorough checks.

“With his rich lifestyle, visa-free passports and connections with wealthy and influential personalities and royalty in Middle Eastern and European countries he was able to move freely, evading arrest and surveillance, ” said the source.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 ― A meeting between local e-sports powerhouse Orange E-Sports and Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman earlier this week has thrown the spotlight on Cleo International Sdn Bhd, the firm that led the delegation.

Observers in the local e-sports industry were particularly curious that Orange would partner the little-known company, as well as its prominent role in leading “a holistic youth driven initiative that included e-sports amongst other core youth development pillars.”

Malay Mail’s check with the Companies Commission of Malaysia showed that Cleo International is an entity that is barely one week old.

Up until October 16, it was known as Mideast Peak Sdn Bhd and was incorporated in December 2016.

Based in Shah Alam, Selangor, the company listed itself as first and foremost a transport and logistics service provider.

It also listed itself as a general trading company that handles imports, exports as well as provides consultancy and management services.

Cleo International has two partners who hold equal shares in the company: Amr Kais Abdulwahed Thabet and Nour Aref Abdulgabar Thabet.

Harian Metro reported yesterday that the woman who led the delegation at the meeting with Syed Saddiq has been identified by her ex-husband Datuk Nasir Yaacob as Nur Fathiah Syazwana Shaharuddin, 25.

Nasir, 46, is an entrepreneur involved in foreign exchange, among others. His lavish wedding with Nur Fathiah, then known as “Datin Anna Dean”, in September 2016 was covered by Mingguan Malaysia, the Sunday edition of the now-defunct Utusan Malaysia.

Nur Fathiah currently goes by the moniker “Cleopatra” on her Instagram account, and was referred to as such by Orange E-sports in its statement to Malay Mail last Tuesday.

She is one of Cleo International’s two directors. The other is one Mohamad Shahid A. Samad, 42, who shares the same residential address as her.

Nur Fathia received brickbats from some members of the public after a video of the meeting went viral on social media; there were (now-debunked) claims that she is Syed Saddiq’s personal assistant, a transwoman, and that she received a major contract from the ministry.

Orange’s parent company Esports Business Network Sdn Bhd (EBN) told Malay Mail it was invited to the meeting by Cleo International to introduce a youth initiative to the Youth and Sports Ministry.

It further explained that its role in the meeting was solely to discuss the e-sports planning and execution part of the programme, and it holds no further role in the project aside from being the service provider of the e-sports pillar.

“Addressing other allegations, EBN and its entities confirm that Cleo International Sdn Bhd and Cleopatra is not a shareholder in the group nor employed by the group in any capacity,” it said.

Malay Mail has contacted Nur Fathiah through her social media account for comments but has yet to hear back from her.

KUALA LUMPUR: The action of a group of teenagers, who, among others, used slingshot to shoot at passing vehicles and lied down on the road around Jalan Anggerik here, has angered the public.

Their nuisance behaviour was also caught on videos, which have gone viral on Twitter today. Several videos posted by Twitter user Syazwan show a group of teenagers hiding on the shoulder of the road before shooting at passing vehicles using slingshots.

Other than that, one of them was also seen making a scene at a shop by throwing things and swearing.

They also tried to tempt fate by lying on the road despite vehicles passing by.

Meanwhile, Cheras police chief Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon said so far, the police haven’t received any reports on the incident.

“However, we will deploy more patrol teams to check the location. Members of the public who have information on the matter are urged to contact Cheras Police Headquarters’ Operation Rooms at 03-9284 5050 or 03-9284 5051 for further action,” he said.

NILAI, Aug 13 — A body was discovered by security personnel conducting the search and rescue operation for missing Irish teenager Nora Anne Quoirin, police sources said today.

However, the body remains unidentified at the moment.

Quoirin’s parents were brought to the site of the discovery at 4.17pm.

According to the police sources, the body was found fully intact.

Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop has now confirmed the discovery, which he said was from a public report received at 1.57pm of a body in the jungle around The Dusun resort from which Nora Anne went missing.

“We arrived at 2.30pm and I can confirm we found a body... white skin colour; my forensics and pathology (teams) are now checking at the scene.

“Body still intact,” he said.

A heavy police presence is occupying the area, with personnel from the K-9 unit, sexual crimes division, and forensics team present.

The Lucie Blackman Trust has also confirmed the discovery, adding that it “seems likely” that the body belongs to the teenager.

“At this time we cannot confirm it is Nora. However it sadly seems likely. Investigations are underway to confirm identity and cause of death,” it said in a statement.

SIBU: A female teacher lost RM391, 550 to not only one but two online “lovers”.

The case happened in December last year but the 47-year old victim only lodged a police report on Aug 7, said Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgi.

The teacher lost RM298, 550 to the first suspect and RM93, 000 to the second one.

“In early November 2018, the victim got acquainted with a man on Facebook who identified himself as Roy Lim Cheng, a mechanic of an oil and gas company in Los Angeles, ” he said.

On Dec 18, Roy told the teacher that out of his love for her, he would be sending her a wristwatch, a laptop, gold jewellery and RM70, 000 in cash.

“Four days later, a man from a courier company called up, telling her that a parcel for her had arrived. But she had to pay RM14, 700 as shipping fee, ” he said.

However, she was also asked to make additional payments for customs duty, insurance coverage for the parcel and a fee to the American Embassy.

She transferred RM298, 550 to the scammer between Dec 24 and 26.

Not long later, the victim met another person, Henry, also on Facebook.

“Henry also told her that he would send gifts to her in the form of a wristwatch, laptop and RM40, 000 as proof of his love for her, ” said ACP Stanley.

She was also asked to pay RM93, 000 which she did so that she could collect the gifts.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
