The news:

PETALING JAYA: A local man and a foreign woman have been arrested for dumping the body of a baby near a mosque at Sungai Way here.

Deputy Petaling Jaya OCPD Supt Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the incident occurred at 8.48pm on Sunday (Nov 22).

"A 32-year-old man, who is an imam at the mosque, found the body of a baby girl wrapped in plastic near one of the tyres of his car, which was parked in front of the mosque.

"Initial investigations revealed there was also a note placed with the body asking for the mosque's help to arrange for a funeral and burial for the baby.

"The note stated the person was disowned by the family because of the baby, saying the person could not bear to see the body of the baby while adding that there was no money to take the child to hospital," Supt Ku Mashariman said.

He added that the baby was believed to be at least four months old.

"Based on information and checks of the mosque CCTV, a police team managed to track down and arrest a 25-year-old man and a 26-year-old foreign woman at a hotel along Jalan SS3/39," he said, adding that both suspects confessed to leaving the body of the baby outside the mosque.

Supt Ku Mashariman said both suspects have been remanded for four days to help with investigations for disposing the body of a child.

PELAKSANAAN perintah kawalan pergerakan (PKP) di beberapa negara dalam usaha memutuskan rantaian penyebaran COVID-19 menyaksikan pelbagai gelagat dan reaksi rakyat yang masih berdegil dengan arahan itu.

Selain memberikan alasan yang tidak masuk akal, ada yang sanggup buat apa sahaja asalkan dapat melepasi sekatan jalan raya oleh pihak berkuasa.

Di United Kingdom (UK), seorang pemandu lelaki ditahan setelah melanggar arahan sekatan perjalanan dengan alasan mengambil barang pembelian berupa tingkap berharga £15 (kira-kira RM80) secara dalam talian.

Namun apa yang memeranjatkan anggota polis apabila mendapati isteri pemandu itu berada di dalam but kereta.

Menurut makluman polis North West Motorway, lelaki itu dipercayai memandu lebih 2 jam sejauh 200 kilometer dari Coventry ke Salford untuk mengambil tingkap yang dibelinya secara dalam talian.

“Isterinya tidak muat duduk di dalam kereta. Jadi dia baring di dalam but sepanjang perjalanan pulang sebelum mereka ditahan,” kata kenyataan itu.

Lelaki itu dilapor disaman kerana melanggar arahan kerajaan dengan melakukan perjalanan tidak penting (non-essential travel).

United Kingdom melaksanakan perintah kawalan pergerakan mulai malam Isnin (waktu tempatan) susulan peningkatan penularan jangkitan COVID-19 di negara itu.

Rakyat negara itu hanya dibenarkan keluar untuk membeli makanan, ubat-ubatan, atau tugasan kritikal.

Woman who left Covid-19 isolation ward back in hospital, say police

GEORGE TOWN: A 21-year-old woman who was reported to have gone missing from a Covid-19 isolation ward at the Parit Buntar Hospital in Perak yesterday returned to the hospital today, police said.

Kerian district police chief Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said the woman had voluntarily returned to the hospital, claiming that there had been an apparent miscommunication between her and the hospital staff.

“The woman has yet to be declared positive for Covid-19. It appears there has been a misunderstanding between her and the hospital authorities, which led her to leave the hospital.

“The confusion appeared to centre around whether she was allowed to go home or not. We are investigating,” he said.

A police report lodged by a Parit Buntar Hospital staff was shared widely on Facebook claiming that a Penang-born flight attendant had “run away” after being placed in an isolation room of the hospital for four hours.

She had earlier declared that she was on a flight from Singapore on March 11 and had been to Thailand on transit and “exhibited Covid-19 symptoms” such as fever for the past 12 days up to March 23, according to the report.

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei is upset with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) after he was ruled out of the All-England due to an injury.

The 34-year-old Chong Wei tore his medial collateral ligament (MCL) on his left knee when he slipped and fell at the newly-opened Academy Badminton Malaysia on Saturday. The national team moved to their new national training centre last Tuesday.

He is expected to be out of action for three to six weeks and will miss the Superseries season opener in Birmingham from March 7-12.

Chong Wei said that the BAM could have prevented the unfortunate incident if they had listened to his request to change the slippery court mats.

“This injury could have been avoided,” said a frustrated Chong Wei.

“I told my coach Hendrawan about the slippery condition after Chong Yee Han fell last week. I wasn’t comfortable playing on it and so did the other players.

“Hendrawan informed Morten Frost (technical director) and Lawrence (Chew, general manager) but nothing was done then.”

Chong Wei added that the BAM only changed the mats on three of the 18 courts on Sunday.

“They waited for an incident to happen before they did something about it ... this shouldn’t be the way,” he said.

“I wouldn’t be angry if it happened in a different scenario ... but I suffered an injury because the national body failed to take immediate actions.”

The three-time All-England champion was sad to miss the oldest tournament which had attracted his two biggest threat China’s Lin Dan and Chen Long.

Chong Wei also said that he had feared for his career when he fell.

“My first thought was I didn’t want to end my career like this. I went for an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) immediately and they told me I had a torn MCL. Thankfully it’s not as serious as I thought but I still need some time to recover.”

National coach Hendrawan said it was certainly a disappointing start to the year for Chong Wei.

“He was so fired up to train after the Chinese New Year. I sympathise with him because he has not played for some time and has been preparing well and this had to happen.”
