After seeing many people asking questions about "why my astro look like crap on my new tv?", I have decided to put a (overly simplified) guide to resolutions, hoping that the LCD & Plasma thread does not fill up with the same questions over and over again (and also because I am bored).

Firstly, you have to know what the different resolutions are (I know ASTRO is not a resolution, but seeing as most forumers do have ASTRO )

Now after seeing that, you should know that atm, 1080p and 720p (full hd and hd, respectively) are the best resolutions you can get currently and ASTRO is the worst, being sub-SD (close to Laserdisc and VCD quality, in fact).

So, when viewing Astro on a HDTV, the picture is stretched to fit the entire screen, which screws up the quality, resulting in a picture which looks like the following pic:

Do note however, that it is not only ASTRO that has to be stretched, but DVDs as well. A stretched DVD running through Component (480p most of the time) will look like below:

Even 720p video sources, like 720p mkv files or other stuff (sorry, a bit light headed now) will look like below:

Finally, the best video source atm, Bluray, runs at native 1080p, and will not be stretched at all when being watched on a 720p or 1080p TV

Btw, I know Akira isn't reference quality material, but it was the first set of 1080p screenshots I could get my hands on

Also, after clicking the URL, click on the 'Full Size' link and click on the pic using your browser (you know, the magnify button which makes it display at it's native resolution).

I know Batman has the logo on the box, but it doesn't support it.

I just saw the logo on the back of Bionic Commando and was wondering if it does, indeed, support PhysX.
