New colleague asked me out for dinner

Me: 30/F/Assistant Manager
Guy: 28/M/Executive

This guy just joined the company for few months. I treated him the same as other colleagues, and has mentioned about my husband and kid on several occasions. We joined the same Tabata class organized by the company after office hours.

Earlier this morning he asked me if I would want to have dinner with him. I told him that I already have other appointment and have to get home immediately after to care for the kiddo. And he just casually replied "It's okay, probably some other time when you are more available."

I don't feel comfortable about this. I am contemplating whether I should inform my husband. I have went out with other guys before marriage, but now as a wife and a mother, I wish to be more responsible.

I have a hunch that the new colleague will come back with the same question soon, what kind of answer should I give him then?

EDIT: I know I am never going to accept his invitation, but how do I word it nicely so that it doesn't hurt our work relationship?

Sahur Dilemma

how ah? I already woke up early prepared sahur, tup tup father in law and Auntie (his new wife) both did not wake up.

Few days already, the food go wasted just like that. I will usually leave the food under tudung saji as sometimes FIL / Auntie will have them for breakfast (sometimes tak puasa). Today, sister in law pulak tak bangun even pintu dah kena ketuk 3,4 times (not on period).

Should I still prepare sahur for all of us? Yesterday I prepare meal for husband, myself and sister in law only, sekali FIL and Auntie joined the table. Terpaksa leave the table to goreng telur.

Feel like kuli, dah masak, tak makan. Lauk also tak simpan, wasted.

EDITED: I always ask members of the house if they want to sahur the next day after berbuka, and they said YES, hence I prepare sahur for everyone.

Colleague cry in the office

Baru kena tegur sikit sudah menangis. Why la women in their 40s still hati tissue?

I did not even raise my voice, only told her that we received feedback on such and such issue, I tested her this morning and proven that the claim was true. Told my colleague just now that she should do things another way instead.

She went back to her seat, sobbing, and just now blah to the restroom, clearly crying.

I malas nak pujuk.

EDIT:
The problem: she mute her office phone, colleagues from other depts cannot reach her, then feedback to me.

I called her extension thrice when she was at her desk, x angkat lgsung.

Called her to my place, told her the issue and informed her to turn her phone ring volume up. She told me that she had purposely muted her phone for weeks. bangwall.gif

I told her that she should not do that since she may missed important calls.

Or should I do it another way? Demonstrate how to turn the volume up instead?

UPDATE:
Now she turned her phone volume up kaw kaw. Like protest only. Warning letter coming.

My Gen X / Baby Boomers staff

13 pipul in my department. I have 11 pipul reporting to me, while I report to the Director. Out of the 11, 3 are Gen X while 2 are Baby Boomers.

My main headache is with these 2 Baby Boomers (BB), both of them are Executives and have joined the company before I do. This is my 3rd year as a Manager.

My problem:
BB1: Do purchasing and record actual expenses (Working experience in the company: 8 years)

1. When asked to do comparison of suppliers' quotations, will type essay-like paragraph, describing the cost of product, lead time, after sales service bla bla. Have to teach her how to use table in Excel.

2. Recently, asked her on the department's 2016 expenses. She said have to ask Finance pipul come back from leave. I asked why she can't use the data she has been keeping, she replied she cannot confirm if her data is correct or not.
And I have been using the data she kept for budget purpose.

3. Love to call me to report every single thing she has done. Some of the conversation goes like this:
BB1: "Hello, I just called that guy for the thing you want last month.."
Me: "Wait.. who is this?"
BB1: "It's me.. BB1"
Me: "Okay, which guy are you referring to?"
BB1: "That guy lor, you told me last time"
Me: "His name?"
BB1: "Mr Lee"
Me: "From which company?"
BB1: "KNN company"
Me: "What did I want from him?"
BB1: "Paper shredder"
Me: "Do you remember why did I asked for paper shredder?"
BB1: "Marketing punya rosak liao"
Me: "Okay, what is it about?"
.......
.......
Every time have to ask her questions to get the details, have mentioned to her that I don't have superpower to read her mind through the walls (jokingly, of course).

BB2: External liaison with UK partner (Working experience in the company: 5 years)

1. 80% never CC me in her outgoing email to partner. When got problem, then only inform me what she has done previously. End up I ask her to send me all her outgoing emails for proofreading before she can send them out.

2. If got form submitted by client on the last day (of a deadline), still process these the day after, end up company kena service charge. When confronted, she said it is not her job to chase deadline. Told me on several occasions "Do I have to do this also?" "I am not paid to do this." "Too busy now, next month do can?"

Any advice is much appreciated.
