Should I buy an inkjet or laser printer?

Idk which one is more economical. It's either inkjet printer with ink reservoir or a monochrome laser printer.
Those epson printers seem pretty cheap factoring refill. With laser printer I found that the knockoff (compatible) toner are cheap as well but idk if they will cause problem or not, original toner is very expensive.

Is building a desktop in the dorm room a bad idea? Is a laptop essential? I'm thinking about buying a rather thick laptop (3mm), the thing is it will kinda be a hassle if I have to carry it around often. So... I'm torn between desktop and laptop and I also worry that thick laptop will be incovenient and catch other people's eyes.
