Most stupid robber in Malaysian History

GEORGE TOWN: A man was robbed RM500 in cash after being given a lift by a “Good Samaritan” who turned out to be an armed robber.

The 44-year-old man was waiting by the roadside in Kampung Melayu here for his friend to give him a lift when the driver of a Perodua Kancil pulled up next to him at about 6.30am on Wednesday.

He accepted the lift without suspecting anything amiss. But after driving a few kilometres, the driver, in his 20s, stopped his vehicle in front of a block of flats and whipped out a pistol.

The man was then forced to hand over his cash, a handphone and some personal documents at gunpoint. He was then kicked out of the vehicle while the robber sped off.

The man subsequently lodged a report at a nearby police station.

Acting George Town OCPD Supt Gan Kong Meng said the victim managed to note down the robber’s car registration number. Police raided the suspect’s house in Sungai Dua the same day and arrested him.

“The vehicle used in the robbery was also recovered. The suspect has since been remanded by a Magistrates Court pending investigations into the case, which has classified as robbery under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code.

“The suspect also tested positive for drug abuse. Our checks show that he has been arrested a few times before for drug-related offfences,” he said at his office on Friday.

Tsunami: Dozens dead in Samoa

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (AP): A powerful Pacific Ocean earthquake spawned towering tsunami waves that swept ashore on Samoa and American Samoa early Tuesday, flattening villages, killing dozens of people and leaving several workers missing at devastated National Park Service facilities.

Cars and people were swept out to sea by the fast-churning water as survivors fled to high ground, where they remained huddled hours later. Signs of devastation were everywhere, with a giant boat getting washed ashore and coming to rest on the edge of a highway and floodwaters swallowing up cars and homes.

The quake, with a magnitude between 8.0 and 8.3, struck around dawn about 20 miles (32 kilometers) below the ocean floor, 120 miles (190 kilometers) from American Samoa, a U.S. territory that is home to 65,000 people.

A main road in the downtown area of Fagatogo, is seen flooded by water from a tsunami located in the main town area in American Samoa on Tuesday.

Hampered by power and communications outages, officials hours later struggled to assess the damage and casualties.

Mase Akapo, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in American Samoa, reported at least 19 people were killed in four different villages on the main island of Tutuila. He had no additional details.

In neighboring Samoa, an Associated Press reporter saw the bodies of about 20 victims in a hospital at Lalomanu town on the south coast of the main island of Upolu, and said the surrounding tourist coast had been devastated. At least three villages were flattened.

An unspecified number of fatalities and injuries were reported in the Samoan village of Talamoa.

American Samoa Gov. Togiola Tulafono said at least 50 were injured, in addition to the deaths.

America Samoa is home to a U.S. national park that appeared to be especially hard-hit. Holly Bundock, spokeswoman for the National Park Service's Pacific West Region in Oakland, Calif., said the superintendent of the park and another staffers had been able to locate only 20 percent of the park's 13 to 15 employees and 30 to 50 volunteers.

A boat from Malaloa Marina is seen on the edge of the main highway in the village of Fagatogo, in American Samoa on Tuesday.

Mike Reynolds, superintendent of the National Park of American Samoa, was quoted as saying four tsunami waves 15 to 20 feet (4.5 to 6 meters) high roared ashore soon afterward, reaching up to a mile (1.6 kilometers) inland.

Holly Bundock, spokeswoman for the National Park Service's Pacific West Region in Oakland, California, said Reynolds spoke to officials from under a coconut tree uphill from Pago Pago Harbor and reported that the park's visitor center and offices appeared to have been destroyed.

Residents in both Samoa and American Samoa reported being shaken awake by the quake, which lasted two to three minutes. The initial quake was followed by at least three aftershocks of at least 5.6 magnitude.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a general alert from American Samoa to New Zealand; Tonga suffered some coastal damage from 13-foot (4-meter) waves.

New Zealander Graeme Ansell said the beach village of Sau Sau Beach Fale was leveled.

"It was very quick. The whole village has been wiped out," Ansell told New Zealand's National Radio from a hill near Samoa's capital, Apia. "There's not a building standing. We've all clambered up hills, and one of our party has a broken leg. There will be people in a great lot of need 'round here."

The Samoan capital was virtually deserted with schools and businesses closed.

Local media said they had reports of landslides in the Solosolo region of the main Samoan island of Upolu and damage to plantations in the countryside outside Apia.

A car is seen pushed up against a bridge after strong sea water from the tsunami filled a small stream in the village of Fagatogo, located in the main town area in American Samoa on Tuesday.

Rescue workers found a scene of destruction and debris with cars overturned or stuck in mud, and rockslides hit some roads. Several students were seen ransacking a gas station-convenience store.

Eni Faleomavaega, who represents American Samoa as a non-voting delegate in the U.S. House, said he had talked to people by telephone who said that Pago Pago - just a few feet above sea level - was leveled.

Several hundred people had their homes destroyed, although getting more concrete information has been difficult, he said.

Chicken of the Sea's tuna packing plant in American Samoa was closed after the tsunami hit, although the facility wasn't damaged, the San Diego-based company said in a statement. Tuna canneries are American Samoa's dominant industry, accounting for nearly 60 percent of all economic activity.

Prior to the tsunami, Chicken of the Sea had announced plans to close the plant on Wednesday, laying off more than 2,100 workers.

Rear Adm. Manson Brown, Coast Guard commander for the Pacific region, said the Coast Guard is in the early stages of assessing what resources to send to American Samoa. Coast Guard spokesman Lt. John Titchen said a C-130 was being dispatched Wednesday from Hawaii to deliver aid, assess damage and take the governor back home. A New Zealand air force P3 Orion maritime search airplane also was being sent.

One of the runways at Pago Pago International Airport was being cleared of widespread debris for emergency use, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said in Los Angeles.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said it was deploying teams to American Samoa to provide support and assess damage.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of American Samoa and all those in the region who have been affected by these natural disasters," Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said.

The ramifications of the tsunami could be felt thousands of miles (kilometers) away, with federal officials saying strong currents and dangerous waves were forecast from California to Washington state. No major flooding was expected, however.

In Los Angeles, lifeguards said they will clear beaches around 8 p.m. in response to a tsunami advisory for possible dangerous currents.

Japan's Meteorological Agency also issued a tsunami warning all along that country's eastern coast.

While the earthquake and tsunami were big, they were not on the same scale of the 2004 Indonesian tsunami that killed more than 150,000 people across Asia the day after Christmas in 2004, said tsunami expert Brian Atwater of the U.S. Geological Survey in Seattle.

The 2004 earthquake was at least 10 times stronger than the 8.0 to 8.3 measurements being reported for Tuesday's quake, Atwater said. It's also a different style of earthquake than the one that hit in 2004.

The tsunami hit American Samoa about 25 minutes after the quake, which is similar to the travel time in 2004, Atwater said.

The big difference is there were more people in Indonesia at risk than in Samoa.

Everytime there is road accident at traffic lights..sure got the goverment ppl say , it is becoz motorist lack of education on road safety ..

Recently there is an accident which a factory bus had run over many motorbikes at a traffic light in Penang.
The police / ministry cant even identify the root cause ..they keep blaming becoz the motorist should learn on road safety through books ...

Even a normal people like me can know why there is a frequent accident at traffic light ...

Most of the time .the accident happens, becoz of Motorcyclist

When they see the other lane traffic light switch from green to yellow .. the motorcyclist already start koyak minyak oredi ...no wonder there is accident becoz ..they did not concentrate on their traffic light ..but very keen concentrating on the opposite lane traffic light ...

So when someone is rushing from the opposite lane ... the accident happens ...

This is what happened in Sg Ara traffic light junction, which killed 2 ppl and injured 8 more motorcyclist .

The bus were trying to pass the traffic light at yellow light ... but our smart motorcyclist oredi start their journey from the opposite site ..

the the bus try to avoid this incoming motorbike ..and at last ..it bang them and went into the opposite direction and hit those who were patiently waiting for the light to turn green ...

----------------BOTTOM LINE IS , A MOTORIST SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON OWN TRAFFIC LIGHT NOT ON THE OPPOSITE WANT---------------------------

JOHOR BARU: A 26-year-old man with a history of mental illness pleaded guilty to robbery but pleaded with a magistrate here to increase his whipping sentence and reduce his jail sentence.

Magistrate Mohd Fuad Abd Ghani warned the accused Abdul Rahman Abdul Wahab that the whippings would leave a mark for life.

“This is not the rotan that they use in school. Are you sure that you want me to increase the number of whippings?” he said.

The accused repeatedly nodded his head and stated that he wanted the increased whippings.

Magistrate Mohd Fuad eventually sentenced the man to one-year imprisonment and three strokes of the rotan, stating that Abdul Rahman’s medical reports show that he was aware and not suffering from mental illness at the time of the incident.

According to the facts of the case, the accused robbed Liau Yu Hao,14, using a knife at the Papaya Cybercafé situated at Jalan Kebudayaan 12 in Taman University here on June 13 at around 10am.

He stole a chain, a gold ring, a touchscreen mobile phone and two other handphones belonging to the victim.Abdul Rahman was sentenced under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine or whipping if convicted.

DPP Amira Sariaty Zainal prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented.

KUALA LUMPUR: A couple of men snatched a woman’s bag early in the morning, unaware that their victim had determinedly followed them to their hideout and tipped off the police.

When police knocked on the door of a flat on the fifth floor of Seri Jati flats in Jalan Puchong, its occupants refused to open the door.

Brickfields police chief ACP Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said that a commotion was heard and they later found a man, believed to be one of the snatch thieves, sprawled behind the flats with severe head injuries and a broken leg and arm.

The man was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.
