HELP! Dead/Blank Screen, Shut down by it self

As mentioned in topic, my laptop of 3 years currently facing this problem of shutting itself down.

In some occasion, it has dead screen (stand still and mouse can't move) or blank screen (LCD shuts off but system light still on).
Also, I've encountered a blue screen with the error message:
Windows had shut down to avoid any damage to the system.
This could be caused by new software/hardware installation....etc. Ask from your software/hardware manufacturer for the latest updates.
If you required safe mode to remove certain (not quite sure what was that), restart your pc and press F8...etc.

My laptop:
Dell Inspiron 640m
Aged 3 years.
Windows XP
Intel C2D T5600
1GB Ram

For all the pros out there, what could be the problem with my laptop? Help needed!
Any recommendations?
I plan to format it to Vista but not sure whether it is system or hardware problem.

there's a girl i knw for a few weeks and we were becoming really in jz a period of few weeks. we msn-ed day and night. after few weeks knowing each other, she told me n hinted me that she likes me. i was too shock at that time and wasn't expecting it. then we have mutual frens n we go out wif them. it was my fren's birthday wen it happened whr they stupidly played some game with her ended kssing my fren on the cheek. after that, my fren seems like falling for her and everthing went wrong. although she asked me to trust her, everytime we n our mutual frens go out, sure my frens will place them together (my frens duno i was having something wif the girl). since i hvn't had much feelings for her, i din showed much reaction n stayed diam to avoid hurting the friendship. but the signs that she give to me is becoming stronger. i was being cold to her since i was still not ready for her yet and until one day, after a movie wif her n our frens, i told her that i'm not ready yet for a relationship since we ny knw each other for not long. we had a peace agreement and remained as frens.

months have passed and slowly i feel for her and confirmed that she is the one for me. having wanting to go into a relationship wif her then she suddenly turned cold on me and say i'm not decisive enuf and duno wat i wan. she avoided direct contact wif me n reduce the frequencies of chatting wif me. she said she dun wana get hurt again cuz i duno wat i wan. but i've told her that i have the determination to wait for her. but it is really hard to go on for her with her being so cold and hardly response wen i'm talking to her. i've told her she's special to me n will let time shows that i can wait but at the same time, without having much interaction and barely talk is a grueling experience, furthermore i dun wana gv her the impression of i'm annoying and irritating.
