OkCupid: iPhone users have more sex

by Mike Schramm (RSS feed) on Aug 11th 2010 at 11:00AM

QUOTE

I've been a huge fan of social dating site OkCupid's OkTrends blog for a while now. They're constantly sharing data (anonymized, of course) from their social site about what people find attractive and interesting in each other. The latest post has some fun information about cameras -- specifically, the perceived link between what type of camera OkCupid's patrons use and successful relationships. All of the data is fascinating (as usual), but there's one little note of potential interest to iPhone fans.

Apparently, when compared to users who post pictures from other smartphone brands, users who reported using iPhones for their profile pictures tend to identify more sexual partners over all. As you can see in the chart above, male and female iPhone users (at age 30) report higher numbers of sexual partners to OkCupid.

In fact, across all ages, iPhone users reported having more sexual partners than those who used Android or Blackberry smartphones to take their profile pictures. Of course, OkCupid is just having fun here. Maybe iPhone users are actually more inclined to lie about their amorous conquests, or maybe there's a higher likelihood that Android or Blackberry users have reason to report a lower number.

But then again, we already know that iPhone owners tend to be rich, engage in vigorous activity, and like to be outspoken about their buying choices and preferences. And aren't those the kind of people who end up going home with the girl (or guy) from the bar anyway?

can malaysian iphone users follow the same trend?

androiders beware!

Silent, easily made Android rootkit shown at Black Hat
updated 06:45 pm EDT, Fri July 30, 2010

Security experts make silent Android malware
SpiderLabs showed a rootkit at the Black Hat conference today that could compromise an Android phone without its owner's knowledge. The exploit, handed out on DVD at the hacking and security meetup, would let the wielder get complete control and personal data from an Android phone without triggering alerts. Team lead Nicholas Percoco said the app took just two weeks to build and would affect even modern Android 2.1 devices such as the HTC Desire and Legend.
The attack was made in an example of "ethical hacking" and was designed to pressure Google into closing the hole that made the root possible. Percoco didn't provide details of how the code worked, but he was expected to provide more details on Saturday. Rooting is increasingly common in Android as a whole as it gives more control over what apps and features can run.

Google hadn't commented on SpiderLabs' discovery as of Friday evening.

The hacking tool's creation comes just on the heels of concerns about Android Market apps also obtaining private data without the user's consent. As a platform, Android has been complimented for its freedom of choice but has also raised security issues as apps often have more control over core functions than they do on iOS or webOS. Google has been given similar mixed treatment for its app approval policies, as it intervenes significantly less in the submission process than Apple but has also been accused of letting a larger number of questionable apps reach the public.

Except for most AT&T devices, Android also has an option of allowing non-Market apps to install that could pose more of a risk, but the feature is turned off by default and warns users of the possible dangers. Similar permission isn't an option on the iPhone and requires a jailbreak.

Read more: http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/07.../#ixzz0vM5sl9VZ

Project Your True Inner Geek

Project Your True Inner Geek Onto This Paintable Android Figurine
You might assume that Dyzplastic's blank Android canvas would attract only lovers of Google's mobile OS. But you'd be wrong, because for those with true passion, beauty is in the eye of the fanboy.

The $6 Do It Yourself Android will be available at Comic-Con this week and should pop up for sale on Dyzplastics in early August. But you're not just dressing up Google's Android; you're remaking the little guy in your own uniquely geeky image. Here are some (admittedly unimaginative) examples we were inspired to create:

See! The possibilities are bound only by the limits of your esoteric geek knowledge. So what cute little domed head is first in your heart? (Danny DeVito from Always Sunny In Philadelphia, while betraying a slightly different brand of geekery, totally counts.)
