Baby decapitated inside mother's womb

UNITED KINGDOM: An unborn baby was decapitated in his mother's womb because of a botched delivery, which could cost a gynaecologist her licence to practice, according to British media reports.

The tragedy happened at the Ninewells Hospital in Dundee on Mar 16, 2014. The case is now being heard by the British Medial Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester.

According to reports, Dr Vaishnavy Laxman, 41, was advised to give her patient an emergency Caesarean section because the premature infant was in a breech position.

However, she allegedly ignored the advice and instead attempted to carry out the delivery naturally.

Dr Laxman urged the mother, known only as Patient A, to push while she applied traction to the baby legs. That caused the infant's head to become detached from the torso, legs and arms, The Guardian reported.

Two other doctors had to carry out a Caesarean section to remove the head from the mother's womb and reattach to his body so his mother could hold him and bid goodbye.

According to The Guardian, Charles Garside, a lawyer for the General Medical Council, said that the choice taken by Dr Laxman to try a vaginal delivery was "the wrong choice".

"New babies are fragile, but this tiny baby was more fragile, and being pulled or twisted could do a lot more damage," said Mr Garside.

The mother's waters had broken early at 25 weeks, according to reports. Upon examination, her unborn baby was found to have a prolapsed cord.

Patient A's cervix was around 2 to 3cm dilated, it was claimed. It was claimed that it was not established whether or not the mother was in labour, The Telegraph reported.

She said during the hearing that she was previously told that if anything happened to her son, it was going to be a C-section. But when she was taken to the labour suite, apparently nobody told her what was happening.

She said she was also not given any pain relief, apart from a spray on her tongue which she was told will loosen her cervix. No gas and air was given, and she was left in pain, she claimed.

Patient A also told the hearing: "I would never use the word stillborn; he was not stillborn, he was decapitated." She also told Dr Laxman: "I don't forgive you - I don't forgive you."

Dr Laxman's lawyer Gerard Boyle had to apologise on her behalf. “Dr Laxman has asked me to say she is so very sorry and deeply saddened for the outcome of your baby," Mr Boyle said, according to The Guardian.

“She knows that no amount of words can or will soften your pain but she is hoping that knowing that what she was trying to do was her very best to deliver your baby quickly and sufficiently and she had best intentions at heart.”

Sos

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/uk-baby-decapitated-inside-mother-s-womb-during-delivery-reports-10226236

Credit card surcharge

You can now complain to BNM !

Just recently, Bank Negara Malaysia has emphasised that retailers are not allowed to impose a surcharge for credit and debit card payments. You’ve probably experienced some retailers insisting on charging an extra 2-3% if you plan to pay by card.

So what do you do if you come across a shop that continues to charge extra? According to Bank Negara Malaysia, you can file a formal complaint to the acquirer (The bank that supplied the card terminals) or to your payment card issuer (The bank that issued your credit or debit card). To make it easier, you can download the official app by Bank Negara Malaysia.

The BNM MyLink App is available for both Apple AppStore and Google PlayStore, and it provides you with the direct email addresses of every bank and financial provider in Malaysia.

Lodging a complaint via BNM MyLink
To make a complaint, just launch the BNM MyLink app and click on Directory. Then find the name of the acquiring bank (The bank that provided the terminal) and then tap on Send Email. In your email, do provide them with your full name, NRIC number, mobile number as well as details of your transaction including the merchant name and address. You’re also required to provide evidence of the surcharge by attaching an official receipt like the one below:

To find out who’s the acquiring bank, you can check the label that’s often found on the machine as pictured below.

Alternatively, you can refer to the receipt where the name of the bank is printed on the top. The merchant name and address can be found on the transaction slip as well.

Apart from contacting the acquirer, you can also lodge a complaint to your payment card issuer. You can reach out to them via email or you can call the hotline number that’s printed at the back of your card.

BNM added that an official complaint will help acquirers to take necessary action on merchants, however, this does not guarantee that you would receive a refund for the additional charges made. If you do not wish to pay for the surcharge, BNM recommends that you purchase your goods from another retailer.

Report merchants that require minimum spend

You can also use the same BNM MyLink app to lodge a complaint against any retailers that imposes a minimum purchase amount for debit and credit card transactions. They emphasised that such practises are prohibited under the rules of international card schemes such as Visa and Mastercard.

sos

Captain, crew did their best: AirAsia passenger

What are your thoughts on the pilot's action ? I think what he did was spot on !

The crew

Below is a Facebook post by 15-year-old passenger Madeline Wright who was on board AirAsia X flight D7237:

MY name is Madeline Wright and I was on the AirAsia engine incident on Sunday travelling from Perth to Kuala Lumpur on my way to Vietnam.

After hearing the loud bang, our aircraft began to shake vigorously and all 359 passengers panicked. Our reassuring captain talked us through the situation and gave us every piece of information he had.

The way we all cooperated and remained calm throughout the event made it easier for the crew to help us and for our captain to fly us to safety. No one screamed. The fact that passengers paid less for a flight is not the reason for this plane's accident. A technical problem like this could happen on any plane and cheaper flights are not to blame.

The aircraft was checked thoroughly before departure like all planes are and was regulated by the same air safety organisations. People should not be criticising AirAsia for missing anything – technical problems happen all the time, even on more expensive flights. We didn't pay less for a technical problem, we paid less for no electronic devices, no meals and less leg room. AirAsia is an amazing company and I have flown with them many times, always with great service and perfect take-off and landing.

It disgusts me that people are criticising our captain for telling us to pray and are trying to get him fired. The full context was, "Everything is under control in the cockpit. If you want to say a prayer, that might help too." His statement was made in such a way to make us feel better and if it helped that was an individual thing. He was professional. He was human. He was a reassuring voice during this event and gave us hope, he is the reason I am still alive and I cannot thank him enough. English was his second language and he had a little trouble speaking to us but what he said was enough. Interestingly, despite 80% of his passengers being of Asian descent, he spoke in English throughout the incident.

And to the people blaming AirAsia, it was not their fault and they did their best to keep us comfortable during the incident and the aftermath. Yes, we did stay in an airport for several hours waiting for news of what was to happen next, but they provided us with vouchers for food and water and the wait was only to ensure the best.

During this time it was telling that everyone was calm, tolerant and patient – not at all like a standard three-hour wait in a queue. We were given the choice of full ticket refunds, a rescheduled flight, or to stay in the airport a little longer for a later flight.

It took time because during the ... period, they needed to work out a plan and then communicate that plan. I'd rather wait to get one correct story than get four hastily-delivered wrong stories.

For those of you criticising AirAsia, our pilot and those on board, please stop. The bravery of our crew and captain should be praised not criticised, they did the best they could for us, and everyone is safe.

sos

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

http://www.thesundaily.my/news/2017/06/28/...rasia-passenger

NEW AXIA OR USED MYVI

I am buying my first car. As i am a student, my budget is around RM30k. Which one is better. A new Perodua Axia or a used Myvi 1.3. Im looking in terms of better reliability, and a better overall car.

Myvi seems already proven as a car. Axia seems small from the outside. I have never been in an Axia before and myvi is huge inside.
