HTC launched their latest Android phone, with its state of the art HTC Sense user interface (Sense UI), the Hero, in MidValley Gardens Hotel. System > Administration > Language Support
Select Chinese. Enable support to enter complex characters.

Restart computer. There is a new keyboard icon at taskbar.
System > Preferences > SCIM Input Method Setup
Configure the hotkeys to turn on and turn off chinese input.

Disable other input methods which are not needed.

Change the font.

Press the hotkey (Control + F1), the keyboard icon at taskbar change to Chinese input icon.
Press Control + F2 to change it back to English input.

Cherry tree

Legend has it that George Washington, America's first president, chopped down a cherry tree in his youth. George gives the tree a good swing and chops it down with an axe. His father sees the damaged tree and asks his son if he knows who did the deed. George is quoted bravely admitting the truth:
"I can't tell a lie, pa. You know I can't tell a lie. I did cut it with my axe."

This is a satire of how some Malaysian politicians circa 2008 may have reacted to the question:

PM Badawi - I did not cut down the tree , I was just taking a nap underneath it.

Najib - I swear that I have never MET that tree.

Hishamuddin - .....but I only own a keris ,not axe, how to cut down the tree.

Dr. Mahathir - Apa nama cherry tree, I chopped it down because , I don't like the idea of Pak lah sleeping under it.

Chua Soi Lek - Yes it was me, I resign as caretaker of this orchard.

VK Lingam - It could be me, it might have been me but I don't think its me.

Anwar Ibrahim - I DID NOT do it, and I am not giving any DNA samples for you to plant on the axe handle.

Khir Toyo - The new state government should just trim the grass and not waste time asking who cut the tree.

Ahmad Said - I chopped it because cherry trees are more expensive to maintain than durian trees.

The 40 Richest Malaysians

Malaysia's 40 Richest needed a net worth of only $100 million to make the list this year, down from $127 million in 2007, despite the fact that the Malaysian ringgit gained 6% against the U.S. dollar, the currency in which their fortunes are measured.

Caught up in the global equities slide, the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index was off 8% in the past year but has fallen 15% since mid-January. While 16 people still managed to add to their fortunes, another 18 saw their net worth slip.

Some tumbled considerably, with seven losing one-fourth or more of their fortune. That includes Lim Wee Chai, head of rubber glove manufacturer Top Glove, and Yaw Teck Seng, founder of forest group Samling, both worth one-third less than a year ago.

The year's biggest gainer was Robert Kuok, again the country's richest person; his fortune jumped $2.4 billion to $10 billion. That was on top of a $2 billion gain the previous year. Lee Shin Cheng, ranked third, adding $1.9 billion. Both businessmen got boosts from their valuable holdings in palm oil producers Wilmar International and IOI, respectively.

Vincent Tan's fortune has more than tripled in just a year, thanks mostly to gains in the share price of his Berjaya Land and flagship Berjaya Corp., pushing him into the billionaire ranks and bringing the country's total number of billionaires up to 10.

Lee Swee Eng is up in part because we added in the value of the shares held by his wife, Gan Siew Liat, who works with him at oil services company KNM. But even without her, his fortune would have increased, as KNM's stock price almost doubled in the past year.

Three newcomers made the cut. The richest is Lee Kim Hua, widow of renowned gaming tycoon Lim Goh Tong, who died in 2007. David Law Tien Seng makes his debut thanks to his stake in Australian iron ore company Midwest.

Grabbing the No. 40 spot is Nazir Razak, son of the nation's second prime minister, who heads financial services firm CIMB. Kasi K.L. Palaniappan and Mustapha Kamal Abu Bakar lost their spots on the list, as shares in real estate developer MK Land Holdings, which makes up most of their wealth, are trading at just a third of their price, compared with last year.

Although we don't usually put royalty on the list, U.K.-trained lawyer Seri Eleena Raja Azlan Shah, whose father is a sultan, returns, thanks to her chunk of infrastructure company Gamuda, on whose board she sits.

AMD 12 core processor

Advanced Micro Devices plans to release processors with 12 cores, which changes its product road map and kills earlier plans to release 8-core chips. The 12-core processor, code-named Magny-Cours, will be targeted at servers and is due for release in the first half of 2010, according to the company's updated road map announced Wednesday.

The chip will include 12M bytes of L3 cache and support DDR3 RAM, according to the road map.

AMD is jumping from a 6-core chip code-named Istanbul, due for release in the second half of 2009, straight to a 12-core chip the following year, an AMD spokesman said.

Until last month, AMD officials repeated plans to ship the 8-core server chip, code-named Barcelona, in 2009. Montreal has now been replaced by Istanbul, followed by a 12-core product in 2010, the spokesman said

Twelve-core chips will handle larger workloads better than 8-core chips and are easier to manufacture, said Randy Allen, vice president and general manager at AMD, during a conference call.

AMD is also planning to release a 6-core chip code-named Sao Paulo in 2010. The chip will include 6M bytes of L3 cache and support for DDR3 RAM. Sao Paulo chips could meet the need of systems that don't require 12 cores, Allen said.

The new chips will be more power efficient as they will be manufactured using the 45-nanometer process, an upgrade from the 65-nm process currently used to manufacture Barcelona.

AMD, which is struggling financially, is making financial and technical considerations in jumping from 6-core to 12-core chips. said Dean McCarron, an analyst with Mercury Research. That should allow the company to dump more cores on chips while delivering better product margins and lowering manufacturing costs.

AMD's 12-core chip will include two 6-core processors on separate chips in a single processor package, McCarron said. That is a more realistic goal than including 12 cores on a single chip, which can be expensive to manufacture, McCarron said.

The shift also allows AMD to avoid competition with Intel in 8-core chips, McCarron said. Intel is shipping a 6-core Xeon server processor, Dunnington, in the second half this year, after which it plans to jump to 8-core processors.

Even with AMD's altered road map, Intel will remain formidable. Intel shipped 78.5 percent of chips in the first quarter of 2008, while AMD held a 20.6 percent market share, a slight gain from the 18.7 percent market share it held in the first quarter of 2007.

The new product road map is a way for AMD to bounce back from recent chip and supply issues, said Gordon Haff, principal IT advisor at Illuminata.

AMD's most recent server chips, the quad-core Opteron processors code-named Barcelona, started shipping late last month after multiple delays and bugs.

Nvidia is ready for its next-generation GPU launch. According to sources at graphics card makers, the company plans to launch its GeForce 9 series GPU after the Lunar New Year in February. The first chip to rollout of in GeForce 9 family will be the D9E, a high-end product that adopts 65nm manufacturing. The new product will also support DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, revealed the sources. In addition to the D9E, Nvidia will roll out a mid-range GeForce 9 family product named D9P in June 2008. The new GPU will adopt 55nm processing, the sources pointed out.
