Pregnant teenager beaten by boyfriend

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 -- A five-month pregnant teenager was injured after she was beaten up by three men, including her boyfriend, in Setapak here.

In the incident at about 2.30 a.m. on Monday, the 18-year-old victim was brought by her boyfriend into a lane behind a college before he and two friends beat her with a hard object.

Wangsa Maju District Police Chief Supt Rajab Ahad Ismail said the victim was injured in the face and left behind by the three suspects at the scene.

“The teenager was later taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital by her father who received information that his daughter had been beaten up.

“Checks on her found that she was five months pregnant, which was not known to her family, including her father,” he said when contacted today.

Rajab said investigations found that the victim was beaten because she often asked her boyfriend known as ‘Atan’ to take responsibility for her pregnancy.

Following the incident, police arrested three suspects including the victim’s boyfriend aged 18, on Monday, who have been remanded for three days to help in the investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

Movie organization in harddisk

I got tons of movies in my external harddisk which i have accumulated over the years. I ordered them by English / Chinese / Korean / Japanese ... etc.
But still, the movies in the English folder keeps on increasing and slowly become unmanageable.
Tried to organize them by genre but these movies can belong to multiple genre - not a very good idea.
Any /ktards having the same problem? Got any good suggestion?

inb4 no prawn here. they are simpler to organize

I'm from Ipoh and cantonese is the default dialect to use around town, which is similar to HK.
PJ / KL was the same last time but seems like mandarin is becoming more common now. i guess chinese from other states are indirectly influencing the spoken dialect here as well
Anyone feel the same or it's just me?

Man arrested at airport part of marriage proposal

IPOH, Dec 24 — It cost him RM10,000 , six months of planning and overcoming a bag of nerves, but Cheung Chan Choon's proposal will be something he or his girlfriend will never forget.

The 30-year-old optician store worker devised an elaborate ruse to propose to his girlfriend Yew Kar Yee, which involved him being "arrested" for possessing illegal items at the Sultan Azlan Shah airport here.

Yew, 20, believed that the couple were supposed to be flying to Singapore for a Christmas holiday, but was taken by surprise when Cheung was abruptly accosted by airport police at the lobby this morning.

Before her eyes, he was bundled into an airport security room for allegedly possessing illegal substances in his bags.

However, after a short wait, Cheung then reappeared dressed in a pilot's costume. Declaring his love for her in Cantonese, he then dropped to one knee and proposed to her

Amid tears of joy and relief, an overwhelmed Yew said yes to celebratory cheers from the fascinated crowd.

Met by reporters later, Cheung said he had planned the elaborate proposal since June, aiming to make it an event the couple would never forget.

The couple began dating three years ago, and met at a local shopping mall where they both worked.

“I wanted to propose for a while, but I didn't want it to be ordinary. To my knowledge, no one had proposed at the airport and I wanted our story to be special,” said Cheung.

To make the ruse work, Cheung enlisted the help of a videography company, who in turn made arrangements with the airport authorities and found him a pilot's costume.

He got Yew to the airport by asking her sister to set up a fake trip to Singapore for the holidays.

“There were a lot of cameras around and I didn't want her to suspect anything. So the company set up two singers to perform Christmas songs at the airport, and I told her the cameras were for them,” said Cheung.

“I was nervous but I told myself that I needed to do this because I want to spend my life with her.”

Luckily for the romantic Romeo, the plan went off without a hitch, and his Juliet was completely taken in.

“I was extremely worried. My hands were shaking and I had no idea what was happening to him,” said Yew.

“I never expected something like this, but I'm so happy now. He is such caring man and he is special in so many ways.”

After the dramatic proposal, the happy couple say that they are looking to get married in a year's time.

So i what ill usually do is, i'll simply pick one and play my movie to make sure it's lip-synched and the english is not broken. That's all i ask for.

Pig organs could soon be transplanted into humans after major ‘xenotransplantation’ breakthrough

Scientists have cleared a major barrier to transplanting organs from pigs into humans after removing threatening viruses from the animals' DNA.
The new research opens up the possibility of breeding animals to harvest their organs to meet the demand for new tissue.
Some challenges, including major ethical objections still remain, but experts said the breakthrough is a significant step towards pig-to-man transplants, also known as xenotransplantation.

James Cameron and Fox have set the release dates for the four “Avatar” sequels, starting on Dec. 18, 2020, for “Avatar 2.”

First Generation Immigrant From Malaysia Gets Accepted to All Eight Ivy League Schools

A Malaysian immigrant in Los Angeles has made an incredibly rare achievement of getting acceptance letters from all eight Ivy League schools.

Cassandra Hsiao, a 17-year-old incoming freshman, now has the luxury of choosing between Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia, Cornell and Pennsylvania for where she wants to spend her college years.

She actually has even more choices as she also got accepted to Stanford University, John Hopkins University, University of Southern California, Northwestern University, New York University, Amherst College, and many others.

“It’s completely surreal,” Hsiao told NBC4. “I opened them one after another, and they all were saying, ‘Congratulations! Congratulations!’ And I know that is something special.”

Hsiao, who grew up in Walnut in LA, is a first-generation immigrant who came from Malaysia when she was just five years old. She said that her essay about learning English has impressed the universities.

The Orange County School of the Arts student has an impressive 4.67 GPA and an excellent 1540 SAT score. The student journalist is also active in extracurricular activities, being the editor-in-chief of the school’s magazine and one of two student body presidents.
