QUOTE

IMPORTANT NOTICE: End of Support for Android 10 & below and iOS 15 & below on RHB Mobile Banking App

QUOTE

Dear Valued Customers,
As part of our ongoing efforts to keep your online banking experience safe and secure, RHB Mobile
Banking App will no longer support devices running on Android 10 and below or iOS 15 and below,
effective 1 June 2026.
You will not be able to access the RHB Mobile Banking App if your mobile device is running on Android
10 and below or iOS 15 and below.
In such situation, you will still be able to login to RHB Online Banking via your browser. However, financial
transactions cannot be performed, as approvals via Secure Plus on the RHB Mobile Banking App is
required.
To avoid service interruption, please update your device to the latest Operating System (OS). No action is
required if your device is already running on the latest OS.

QUOTE

FAQ
1. Why is there a minimum phone OS requirement?
An outdated OS no longer receives security updates from Apple or Google, making your device
more vulnerable to cyber-attacks and malwares. Your device will be at risk if the OS is not updated.
2. What phone OS do I have to be on?
For Android users, effective 1 June 2026 you will need to be on Android 11 or newer OS. We
strongly encourage to update to Android 13 or newer, as these versions receive the latest security
updates from Google.
For iOS users, effective 1 June 2026 you will need to be on iOS 16 or newer OS. We strongly
encourage to update to iOS 17 or newer, as these versions receive the latest security updates from
Apple.
3. How do I check or update my phone OS?
You will need to go to ‘Settings’ on your mobile device and select ‘About Device’. There should be
an option for you to update your OS version.
4. I’m unable to update my phone OS. What do I do?
You may need to check if your mobile device is compatible with the required OS version, or you
may need to upgrade to a device compatible with the required OS version.

Source:https://amanz.my/2026556796
rhb statement

Got the signature Somersby cider citrus flavor. Guess they really change the formula due to low popularity of Jolly Shandy at Malaysia.

Personally I still prefers Anglia Shandy, the flavour tastes more blended compare to multifacet of Somersby Shandy.
But I can imagine others on the contrary likes the diverse mult-layer taste.

Sekian ayam update on Shandy price 2026 and new Somersby Shandy review.

edit: shandy best deal now by lawliet88

QUOTE(lawliet88 @ Jan 27 2026, 08:27 PM)

Lotus app got voucher rm5 for beer per carton, work on shandy

Hargapedia shown shandy RM47.68-RM5=RM42.68 (using RM5 lotus app voucher)
TheStar: Gamuda IJM likely RM6bil flood tunnel job

QUOTE

PETALING JAYA: Should the proposal to build a RM6bil Japanese-inspired underground flood tunnel system in Selangor be approved by the federal government, it could herald a revival of larger-scale flood mitigation schemes.

CIMB Securities Research also said in a note that listed contractors with larger balance sheets are poised to benefit from the underground tunnel project.

This is assuming the RM6bil proposal is implemented as a single package under public-private partnership.

“Under this scenario, we believe that Gamuda Bhd has the upper hand, having proposed the Smart2 tunnel as a tool to combat flooding in the western parts of the Klang Valley.

“To be delivered in two phases, the 22-km Smart2 tunnel covers the five flood-prone areas of Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, Setia Alam, Bandar Klang and Taman Sentosa.

“It includes tributaries, interceptor channels and a pumping system that pumps floodwater into the sea, and includes river improvement works that increase the capacity of Sungai Klang by 10%.”

CIMB Securities Research also said that IJM Corp Bhd could emerge as an alternative contender.

It is noteworthy that a key condition for the privatisation of the Canal City – now known as IJM Rimbayu township – was the incorporation of an 18-km canal linking Sungai Klang and Sungai Langat that serves as a flood control mechanism.

It is notable that IJM was also a member of a Japanese-Malaysian consortium that successfully delivered the 44.6-km tunnelling package worth RM1.3bil under the Pahang-Selangor Interstate Raw Water Transfer project.

Beyond Gamuda and IJM, another potential beneficiary of Selangor’s rejuvenation of big-ticket flood mitigation jobs would be Econpile Holdings Bhd.

This is because such jobs may drive higher demand for specialised piling services that support foundation or reinforcement work such as flood embankments, dikes, diaphragm walls and retention ponds.

So far, the bulk of the flood mitigation projects in the Klang Valley have revolved around small to medium-sized packages that have mainly been awarded to unlisted contractors.

It was recently reported that the Selangor state government is mulling a flood mitigation proposal based on similar schemes adopted in the Japanese cities of Kawasaki and Saitama, where water is directed straight into underground tunnels.

The proposal, designed to prevent flooding in the western areas of Kuala Lumpur and the state, has been submitted to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and would be incorporated under the Air Selangor Master Plan.

CIMB Securities Research also noted that Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB), which has two ongoing flood mitigation projects, could be among the frontrunners for the Sg Damansara Flood Mitigation works.

Tenders for the RM481mil Sg Damansara flood mitigation project have closed.

MRCB’s ongoing projects are the RM250mil Sg Langat Flood Mitigation Phase 2 and the RM380mil Sg Pahang Flood Mitigation Phase 3.
Source

I wonder if they take into account that rising sea level will cause Klang to be under water in 2050. Seems like they just considering to divert extreme rainfall to the sea, but not considering the rising sea levels.

Pic source
Tunnel itself might be not sufficient if.

Happy New Year 2024; Brace for New Tax

QUOTE

New 10pc tax: What Malaysians need to know when buying products online below RM500 from overseas, source Malaymail
By Ida Lim
Sunday, 17 Dec 2023 7:00 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 — How much more will you need to pay the next time you go shopping online and buy items priced under RM500, once Malaysia starts imposing a new 10 per cent sales tax on such goods delivered from abroad next year?

Here’s everything you need to know as an online shopper in Malaysia, based on the Royal Malaysian Customs Department’s 35-page guidelines and six-page list of frequently-asked-questions released last month:

1. What is this new tax?

It is a 10 per cent sales tax on low value goods (LVG or goods at a price of less than RM500 each) that are sold online and shipped from abroad to customers in Malaysia (including customers in the duty-free islands of Labuan, Langkawi, Tioman, and Pangkor, and in special areas such as free zones or licensed warehouses).

This tax applies to all online sellers (whether the seller is located in Malaysia or overseas) who sell LVG on an online platform or operate an online marketplace where LVG is sold.

This tax applies to everything that is sold online at a price of less than RM500 each that are brought into Malaysia by land, sea, air, except for imported alcohol or smoking products.

This is the list of items where no sales tax on LVG will be collected: intoxicating liquors; cigarettes; tobacco products; smoking pipes (including pipe bowls); e-cigarettes or vaping devices; e-cigarette or vaping liquid or gel (whether it contains nicotine or not).

2. When will Malaysia start imposing this sales tax? What happens if the goods arrive later?

The sales tax will be imposed on January 1, 2024. (It was originally supposed to be imposed on January 1, 2023, but was postponed to April 1, 2023, but was later postponed indefinitely until the latest announcement that it would be implemented on January 1, 2024.)

What does this mean? If you bought any LVG before January 1, 2024, the new 10 per cent sales tax will not be imposed on the items, even if the items are only delivered to you after January 1, 2024.

In other words, if the registered seller confirms the order for the LVG before January 1, the new sales tax will not be imposed, even if the goods are removed by the seller from overseas to the customer in Malaysia after January 1.

But if the registered seller confirms the order for the LVG on or after January 1, the new sales tax on LVG will apply.

3. OK, show me how much I need to pay

The new sales tax of 10 per cent is only charged on the sales value of LVG (goods priced below RM500).

The sales tax will not be charged on other taxes or other charges such as transportation costs, delivery fees, insurance costs.

For example, if you bought a watch online that is priced at RM200, you have to pay an additional RM20 (the 10 per cent LVG sales tax on the price), and the usual delivery fees (no 10 per cent LVG sales tax on delivery fees).

If you thought you could beat the tax by buying a few LVG together so that the total order price exceeds RM500, it will not work.

This is because the sales tax is charged individually on every single piece of LVG that is priced below RM500.

See below for example, where the total order would have been worth RM600, but the LVG is still charged on all three items as they are priced at RM200 each (which is less than RM500):

4. Discount versus voucher: Which one has less tax?

The short answer is: If the seller is offering you a discount, you will pay less for the sales tax on LVG. If you are using a voucher, you will be paying more for the sales tax on LVG.

For the discount scenario: The 10 per cent sales tax will not be imposed on the original selling price, but will be charged on the discounted selling price.

For the voucher scenario: For example, if you apply a RM50 voucher at check out at an online shopping platform, the 10 per cent sales tax will still be imposed on the original selling price (the price before the voucher is applied).

This is because the voucher will not be treated as a discount (although the voucher has a monetary value of RM50), so the sales tax will be charged on the actual sale value (original selling price).

5. What is ‘De Minimis’ and how will it affect the total tax I have to pay for imported LVG?

When goods are imported into Malaysia, the country may collect these three kinds of taxes: Import Duty, Excise Duty, Sales Tax on Imports.

But for goods with a total CIF (cost, insurance, and + freight) value of below RM500 per consignment that are imported into Malaysia by air courier services and postal services, the De Minimis facility would apply (which means Import Duty and Sales Tax on Imports would be exempted).

So, what happens when the new 10 per cent sales tax on LVG begins on January 1, 2024?

Example 1: You buy an LVG valued at RM300 online from a seller outside Malaysia and have already been charged the 10 per cent sales tax on LVG. The LVG will be shipped to Malaysia by air using a courier service.

Answer: You don’t have to pay additional duties or taxes upon importation as the LVG delivered by air is entitled to De Minimis. (That means you don’t have to pay the sales tax twice).

Example 2: You buy an LVG valued at RM460 online from a seller in China and have already been charged the 10 per cent sales tax on LVG. The LVG will be shipped to Malaysia by air using a courier service.

Answer: Upon importation to Malaysia, the declared customs value (CIF value) is greater than RM500, so the De Minimis (exemption of Import Duties and Sales Tax on Import) does not apply. If the importer or custom agent can show documents to Customs to prove that the 10 per cent sales tax on LVG was charged when the item was sold, then only the Import Duties will be charged. Otherwise, both Import Duties and Sales Tax on Imports will be imposed.

Remember, De Minimis does not apply if goods with a total CIF value of below RM500 is brought into Malaysia by land or sea. The De Minimis exemption on Import Duties and Sales Tax on Imports only applies for air courier services and postal services.

Example 3: You buy an LVG valued at RM300 online and it is imported into Malaysia by road.

Answer: This LVG will be subject to both Import Duty and Sales Tax on Imports since De Minimis is not applicable to goods imported by road. But if it can be proven that sales tax on LVG was imposed when the product was sold to the buyer, no Sales Tax on Imports would be imposed.

Read this for more on why the Malaysian government decided to start collecting the new 10 per cent Sales Tax on LVG, including to level the playing field between local and overseas sellers and to encourage Malaysians to buy local products:

To find out more about the new sales tax on LVG, visit the Royal Malaysian Customs Department’s official website dedicated to the Sales Tax on LVG.

Or read the Customs Department’s guidelines as of November 3 or its list of FAQs as of November 6.

TLdr order confirmed be4 1.1.2024 not pay 10% tax if shipped from oversea.
Tax applied on single unit sale price before voucher, voucher rugi but if seller original discount will pay less.

QUOTE

Protect and approve your online transactions using RHB Secure Plus!

Important Notice!
Starting from 10 June 2023, you can approve online transactions using RHB Secure Plus, via RHB Mobile Banking app, replacing SMS One-Time Password (OTP) and you will not be able to access RHB Online Banking without RHB Mobile Banking App. This is an enhanced feature protecting your online transactions against fraud.

Download RHB Mobile Banking App today and link your device to activate RHB Secure Plus.

Here’s how you can approve your transactions using RHB Secure Plus!
Step 1: Log in to RHB Online Banking and perform a transaction.
Step 2: You will receive a push notification on your device.
Step 3: Tap the push notification to approve or reject the transaction.
Step 4: If you did not receive a push notification, just tap on RHB Secure Plus icon on the Pre Login screen to approve or reject the transaction.RHB preventatives where is this icon?

Note: You are only allowed to register ONE authorized device to approve your transactions using RHB Mobile Banking App. Once you have successfully registered your authorized device, there will be a 12-hour post registration intermission (cooling-off period) during which you will not be able to log in to your RHB Online Banking and Mobile Banking. You are encouraged to register your authorized device when you are not actively using RHB Online Banking and Mobile Banking.

However, please take note to secure your device properly since the push notification from RHB Mobile Banking would not require PIN or any authenication to approve. Just one click, I even wondered why did they asked for PIN when registering device
Another thing is there is no RHB secure plus icon on the prelogin screen at all, so it is just push notification. If the notification somehow failed or you slide to remove accidentally, there is no section to find the transaction you need to approve. I felt like this announcement is half-baked while the app feature had not been push out. Even worse than PBB android 10 requirement.

update: 12hour cooldown from banking if change device

QUOTE

IMPORTANT: Enhanced security measures on RHB Online Banking and Mobile Banking

Effective 10 June 2023, there will be a 12-hour post device registration intermission (cooling-off period) as part of RHB’s enhanced security measure to prevent unauthorized online transactions and fraud.

During this 12-hour interval, you will not be able to log in and access your RHB Online Banking and Mobile Banking.

The 12-hour post registration intermission happens when you:

Register an authorized device on RHB Mobile Banking App for the first time; or
Register an authorized device on RHB Mobile Banking App on a different device

You are encouraged to register your authorized device when you are not actively using RHB Online Banking and Mobile Banking.

If you encounter any issues logging in to your account after the 12-hour interval, please contact our Customer Contact Centre at 03-9206 8118 for assistance.

13/6/2023: RHB bank finally addressed the issue and release the update for ui access secure approval without login.

Scientists create eggs from male cells

Proof-of-concept mouse experiment will have a long road before use in humans is possible.

Heidi Ledford & Max Kozlov

QUOTE

Only a few of the embryos derived from all-male cells went on to develop into healthy mouse pups.Credit: Ciobaniuc Adrian Eugen/Alamy

Researchers have made eggs from the cells of male mice — and showed that, once fertilized and implanted into female mice, the eggs can develop into seemingly healthy, fertile offspring.

The approach, announced on 8 March at the Third International Summit on Human Genome Editing in London, has not yet been published and is a long way from being used in humans. But it is an early proof-of-concept for a technique that raises the possibility of a way to treat some causes of infertility — or even allow for single-parent embryos. “This is a significant advance with significant potential applications,” says Keith Latham, a developmental biologist at Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Researchers have been working towards this feat for years. In 2018, one team reported using embryonic stem cells made from sperm or eggs to generate pups with either two fathers or two mothers. The pups with two mothers survived to adulthood and were fertile; those with two fathers lived for only a few days1.
In 2020, a team led by developmental biologist Katsuhiko Hayashi, now at Osaka University in Japan, described the genetic changes necessary for cells to mature into eggs in a lab dish2. And in 2021, the same researchers demonstrated that they could reconstruct the environment of mouse ovaries to grow eggs that produce healthy offspring3.

With these tools in hand, Hayashi and his colleagues embarked on a project to create eggs using cells taken from an adult male mouse. They reprogrammed these to create stem-cell-like induced pluripotent stem cells. The team grew these cells in culture until some of them had spontaneously lost their Y chromosomes. (As in humans, the cells of male mice typically contain one X and one Y chromosome.) They then treated the cells with a compound called reversine, which can promote errors in how chromosomes are distributed during cell division, and looked for cells that were chromosomally female, with two copies of the X chromosome.

From there, the team provided the induced pluripotent stem cells with the genetic signals needed to form immature eggs. They then fertilized the eggs using mouse sperm and transferred the resulting embryos into the uterus of a female mouse.

The survival rate was low. Out of 630 transferred embryos, only 7 developed into pups. But the pups grew normally and were fertile as adults, Hayashi said at the meeting.
Early days

The technique is a long way from any kind of medical application. “There are big differences between a mouse and the human,” Hayashi said. Such differences often complicate efforts to translate discoveries in reproductive and stem-cell biology from mice to the clinic.

In particular, Hayashi says that his team will need to carefully characterize the pups from the experiment, to look for any ways in which they differ from those bred using conventional methods.

It will also be interesting to look at whether the ‘epigenetic’ chemical modifications to DNA that can influence gene activity are preserved properly in the eggs derived from male cells, says Fan Guo, a reproductive epigeneticist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Zoology in Beijing, who calls Hayashi’s results “illuminating”. Epigenetic marks on DNA can influence development in the offspring well beyond the embryo stage.

Another concern is that performing the same technique with human cells might require researchers to grow the egg cells in the laboratory for longer than was necessary with mouse cells, says Mitinori Saitou, a developmental biologist at Kyoto University in Japan who collaborated with Hayashi on the work. “If the culture period becomes longer, then both genetic and epigenetic abnormalities can accumulate,” he told the conference. “The shorter the better.”

Latham says that even if the approach is feasible in humans, researchers will need to make it more efficient and practical by increasing the proportion of embryos that yield offspring. “If you’re going to apply this in humans, you really want to err on the side of safety, caution and efficiency,” he says.

But if these hurdles are crossed, Hayashi’s chromosomal-engineering approach could one day provide a treatment for some forms of infertility caused by sex-chromosomal conditions such as Turner’s syndrome, in which women lack part or all of one of their X chromosomes.

The ramifications of Hayashi’s work could also take human reproduction into new territory, says bioethicist Tetsuya Ishii at Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan. If applied to humans, such research might help male couples to have biological children together, with the aid of surrogate mothers, he says. “It also suggests that a single man could have a biological child,” he says, “in the far future.”

Such applications will require more than technical refinement of a biological method, said Hayashi, but also a broader societal discussion about the ethics and implications of implementing them: “I don’t know whether this kind of technology can really adapt to human society.”

doi: https://doi.org/10.1038/d41586-023-00717-7

source: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-00717-7

comment: Wow but still need study if any side effects.

QUOTE

Thursday, 02 Mar 2023 7:27 AM MYT

NEW YORK, March 2 ― Toilet paper is an unexpected source of potentially harmful “forever chemicals” in wastewater across the globe and could be leaching into soils via sewage, a new study yesterday said.

“Forever chemicals”, or PFAS, are found in cosmetics, non-stick cookware and waterproof clothing.

They have been linked to several types of cancers, cardiovascular disease, fertility problems and developmental disorders in children.

The synthetic chemicals are present in soil and waterways across the globe, and a new study yesterday found that toilet paper “should be considered as a potentially major source” of PFAS in wastewater treatment systems.

The researchers said reducing PFAS in wastewater is “critical”, since the chemicals are potentially harmful.

“Wastewater effluent and sludge are commonly reused for irrigation and/or land application; research has already shown that these two pathways pose a risk for human and environmental exposure to PFAS,” said the study in the Environmental Science and Technology Letters journal.

Some manufacturers add PFAS when converting wood into pulp, traces of which may contaminate the final toilet paper product.

Recycled toilet paper may also be made with fibres that come from materials containing PFAS, said the study.

The researchers collected toilet paper rolls sold in North America, Latin America, Africa and Western Europe, along with sewage samples from wastewater treatment plants in the United States.

The main PFAS detected were “disubstituted polyfluoroalkyl phosphates” ― or diPAPs ― compounds that can convert to more stable PFAS such as perfluorooctanoic acid, which is potentially carcinogenic.

Researchers combined their results with data from other studies that included measurements of PFAS levels in sewage and per capita toilet paper use in several countries.

They found that toilet paper contributed about four per cent of diPAPs in the United States and Canada, 35 per cent in Sweden and up to 89 per cent in France.

The numbers may be lower in North America because other products are responsible for PFAS in wastewater, such as cosmetics, textiles or food packaging.

The study looked at toilet paper samples collected from November 2021 to August 2022.

Introduced in the 1940s, PFAS (perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances) are known as “forever chemicals” because they are extremely persistent in the environment and in our bodies.

Although hard to avoid entirely, contact with them can be reduced by avoiding non-stick cookware, stain-repellent and water-repellent materials and with proper water filtration. ― ETX Studio

source: https://www.malaymail.com/news/life/2023/03...udy-shows/57511
comment: Maybe don't flush toilet paper down the bowl or better be like asian use paip.
