Ever since the issue of tembikai flotilla, blue-white and alcohol.
I saw on my social media feed, old school friends, uni buddies even lecturer who were once very nice and helpful during those days, resort to spreading hatred indirectly against nons.
I mean we studied, lepak together, never once touch about religion or any of those things, 15 years isn't that long ago, yet people changed by bad ideology spreaded by those influencers, people in power, religious clerics as they call themselves.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — Petronas president and group CEO Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik has apologised for his participation in post-race celebrations involving champagne at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, acknowledging that his spontaneous display of joy “may have been misplaced.”

“While I can categorically state I did not consume any alcohol, as a Muslim, I should have been more aware of the sensitivities associated with taking part in such celebrations,” Tengku Taufik said in a statement tonight.

“Accordingly, I want to apologise for any unintended offence caused and take full responsibility for my actions.”

The incident occurred after Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver George Russell won the race.

As the team’s title sponsor, Tengku Taufik represented Petronas in receiving the Winning Constructor Trophy and joined the traditional podium champagne spray alongside the drivers.

His participation drew mixed reactions online. Some questioned the appropriateness of a senior Muslim executive taking part in a celebration associated with alcohol, even if non-alcoholic champagne was used.

Others defended Tengku Taufik, noting that he did not consume alcohol and highlighting that spraying champagne is a long-standing Formula 1 tradition.

Despite the controversy, Tengku Taufik emphasised the significance of the victory and Petronas’ ongoing commitment to motorsports.

“I felt honoured when I was invited to receive the Winning Constructor Trophy on the team’s behalf,” he said.

“On behalf of Petronas, permit me to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for the continued support of our participation in what is the pinnacle of motorsports competition.

“The successes we deliver now and in the upcoming era of sustainable fuels will indeed bear testimony to Malaysian innovation and capabilities.”

PUTRAJYAYA: Shell MDS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd was today ordered to make payment for gas supplies to Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), estimated to exceed RM500 million.

The Court of Appeal allowed the national oil company's application to set aside a High Court interim injunction, which had required Petronas to continue supplying gas to Shell MDS at its Bintulu, Sarawak facility without receiving any payment to date.

Shell MDS had withheld payment due to two invoices — one from Petronas and another from Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) — amid concerns over the possibility of double payment while the jurisdictional issue between Petronas and Petros is being resolved.

A three-member Court of Appeal bench chaired by Datuk Azimah Omar unanimously allowed Petronas' appeal to set aside the injunction and ordered that the amount be paid within 14 days, covering payments due since August last year.

The court also lifted the mandatory injunction that had compelled Petronas to continue supplying gas without receiving payment, as well as two other injunctions relating to a bank guarantee.

Shell MDS had sought to restrain Petronas from making claims on the guarantee, receiving or utilising its proceeds, and had applied for the return of sums already obtained.

The panel further directed that the total amount payable be calculated up to Oct 5, and the funds be deposited the following day.

The payments involved relate to gas supplies worth RM80 million per month since August last year.

Also on the panel were Datuk Wong Kian Kheong and Datuk Ismail Brahim.

Petronas was represented by lawyers Datuk Cyrus V. Das, Khoo Guan Huat and Datuk Azian Mohd Aziz, while Shell MDS was represented by Christopher Leong and Janet Chai Pei Ying.

Lawyers Logan Sabapathy and Foo Joon Liang appeared for Petros as interveners.

In an earlier Court of Appeal hearing, Cyrus argued that Petronas had suffered losses of more than RM80 million a month due to Shell MDS withholding payments, which had been kept in Shell MDS's accounts pursuant to the Kuala Lumpur High Court's order in January.

Shell MDS had applied for the injunction, which was granted by High Court judicial commissioner Arziah Mohamed Apandi, to suspend payments to Petronas and Petros while ensuring continued gas supply.

In her ruling, Arziah held that Shell MDS faced the risk and threat of disruption to its gas supply under two competing gas sales agreements (GSAs), with financial implications since monthly payments were estimated at between RM70 million and RM100 million.

She noted that Shell MDS had sought to ease the situation by offering to park the payments in an interest-bearing account pending resolution. However, Petronas had moved to enforce the bank guarantee.

The injunction was granted on the basis of Shell MDS being bound by two separate gas supply agreements, one with Petronas (signed on July 17, 2020) and another with Petros (signed on Aug 16, 2024).

The court said the injunction preserved the status quo of all parties pending the substantive decision, while ensuring Shell MDS could continue its operations without prejudicing the ultimate rights of Petronas or Petros, as would be determined by the court.

Shell MDS and Petros ordered to pay costs
The three-member appellate bench, which also includes Datuk Ismail Brahim, also ordered Shell MDS to pay RM50,000 in costs to Petronas, while Petros was ordered to pay RM30,000 to the national oil company.

Shell MDS had sought the injunction to stop monthly payments for the gas supply until the dispute between Petronas and Petros was resolved. The injunction also directed Petronas to continue to supply the gas to Shell MDS. Shell MDS also obtained an injunction barring Petronas from utilising its bank guarantee for the gas payments.

The High Court injunction was granted after Shell MDS received competing invoices of RM80 million each from Petronas and Petros. Petros has been the sole gas aggregator for Sarawak since last year.

In making her decision, Arziah said that Shell MDS was facing "immediate risks and threats of disruption" to its gas supply, with monthly payments in the region of RM70 million to RM100 million, due to its involvement in two separate gas supply agreements, one with Petronas (signed on July 17, 2020), and the other with Petros (signed on Aug 16, 2024).

Shell MDS, she also noted, had attempted to mitigate the situation by offering to set aside payments in an interest-bearing account pending the dispute resolution. However, Petronas had proceeded to call on the bank guarantee, the judgement read.

Petronas' argument
During proceedings on Monday, Petronas' lead counsel Datuk Dr Cyrus Das argued that the High Court's decision had prejudiced the national oil company, as it had always operated the facility to supply gas to Shell MDS, a capability that Petros does not have.

He said Petronas had been supplying gas to Shell MDS throughout the years due to its gas supply agreement and had not stopped even after Petros "came into the picture".

“Before the filing of the interpleader summons (between Petros and Petronas), Petronas had not cut supply. Was there a breach of the existing contract or legal rights (on Shell) for it to refuse to make the payments?

Das argued that Shell MDS did not meet the threshold under the Rules of Court 2012 to show a breach of obligation, as Petronas had continued to supply gas and was now at a loss of more than RM80 million monthly by not receiving payments since the injunction.

He added that Petronas suffered the hardship of continuing to supply gas to the Bintulu facility for Shell MDS. Das claimed the High Court was "completely wrong" because it failed to consider the "balance of hardship" in the case.

Co-counsel Khoo Guan Huat further pointed out that Shell MDS had brought the liability upon itself when it signed the agreement with Petros. He cited case law stating that an entity cannot create its own liability. He also pointed out that the gas was supplied from a single pipeline managed by Petronas and that Petros had admitted to not having the capacity to manage it.

Shell MDS counsel Christopher Leong, who appeared with Janet Chai Pei Ying, countered that the High Court injunction was correct because his client was issued two invoices, so they had to seek a payment halt to reduce the threat of a double claim. He argued that the dispute should be resolved between Petronas and Petros before any payments are made.

“Shell MDS do not want to be caught in a war, in the exercise of discretion," he said, adding that one of the facts being disputed was between Petronas and Petros.

Petros counsel Logan Sabapathy and Foo Joon Liang, who opposed the lifting of the injunction, cited the ongoing dispute between Petronas and Petros that is pending at the Kuching High Court.

MKN dalam kenyataan berkata, tindakan serta-merta itu dibuat untuk membolehkan pihak keselamatan dan agensi bertanggungjawab melaksanakan siasatan segera terhadap ancaman terbabit.

Sapura Energy is no more, company rebrands as Vantris Energy

Financially beleaguered Malaysian offshore and marine contractor Sapura Energy has officially changed its name to Vantris Energy, following shareholder approval.
The now-Vantris said the name change, which took effect on 1 August, reflects “the cumulative effort the company has made in its corporate transformation”.

Vantris emerged as the top choice of more than 200 company personnel who submitted suggestions.

‘Van’ is derived from vanguard, said to symbolise being at the forefront and moving forward with purpose. ‘Tri’ — also part of Singapore-headquartered rival Seatrium’s name — signifies Vantris’ commitment to its three core values, three principles and three business pillars. Meanwhile, the ‘s’ encapsulates the company's brand promise: “Solutions Delivered Safely”.

The contractor added that ‘Energy’ grounds the name in its core sector and the drive of its people.

“[The name change] marks a new chapter for our company, honours our journey and represents the trust we aim to rebuild with stakeholders,” commented Vantris chief executive, Muhammad Zamri Jusoh.

The name change coincides with the company’s impending implementation of its Proposed Regularisation Plan (PRP), which received more 99% shareholder approval at a separate Extraordinary General Meeting, also held on 30 July. The PRP, approved by Bursa Malaysia Securities in June, comprises four core components: Capital reconstruction, debt restructuring, fundraising and a proposed exemption.

Together, these measures are designed to restore Vantris’ financial health, support operational recovery and facilitate an eventual exit from Practice Note 17 (PN 17) status.

Under the capital reconstruction exercise, the Company will undertake a 99.99% capital reduction to offset accumulated losses, together with a 20-to-1 share consolidation. As part of the debt restructuring, total borrowings will be almost halved from 10.8 billion ringgit to approximately 5.6 billion ringgit (US2.56 billion), resulting in a projected reduction of more than 500 million ringgit in interest expense.
Vantris said this significant deleveraging positions it to return to profitability and rebuilds confidence with clients and financiers. Malaysia Development Holding (MDH) will subscribe up to 1.1 billion ringgit in redeemable convertible loan stocks (RCLS) as part of the fundraising exercise, with the proceeds being used to settle outstanding payments to Malaysian oil and gas vendors.

Shareholders also approved an exemption for MDH and its Persons Acting in Concert from undertaking a mandatory general offer should the RCLS be fully converted into shares.

“We are deeply encouraged by the strong mandate from our shareholders. We are also glad that shareholders have actively exercised their rights and played a decisive role in shaping the company’s future. With these approvals, Vantris is now in a stronger position to move forward with renewed focus, financial strength and purpose,” added Muhammad Zamri.

Vantris said it would now prioritise the phased implementation of the PRP, targeting an exit from PN 17 status after achieving two consecutive quarters of profitability — Sapura had posted a loss for the three months ended 30 April 2025, which it refers to as the first quarter of its 2026 financial year.
