What to do with old iMac?

So I have a 2006 or 2007 iMac (square / black plastic back) that might have pooped out, not sure what yet. I could take it to Apple Service and get it diagnosed, but it's prolly the graphics card / logic board that was fried (poof sound while gaming). And there is no more parts for it even if I want to repair it.

What do I do with it?

Do ppl buy it to cannibalize it?

I'm a newbie looking to start training but not really sure how to proceed as it requires a power rack / olympic barbells + at least 30 mins uninterrupted time?

Home gym fits but it's going to be expensive just to try out the program.
Gym, well not sure if there's correct equipment (I've never been to one) or if I can get uninterrupted time on it. Also there's people around and i'm a bit self-self-concious.

Advise from any who started the program?

iMac display stains

This isn't my first iMac that had stains. I got it replaced on my previous one as it got REALLY bad.

Now this one again, a few more months my 3 year AppleCare will be gone. It's not AS bad, but it is obvious with a fair colored wallpaper and I purposely use a darker one so I wouldn't see it.

Should I call and get it replaced? Cos I feel guilty to ask for a replacement. It's working fine, but it's been bugging me.

Nor do the World Events big boss (bad) loot pinata.
Anyone else want like old school Naxx40 level epic raid content? Or LK heroic level of complexity? Or Mimiron heroic? Just a few examples of fond memories.

And no, I do not want to go back to WoW after 2+ years not having touch it, nor do I want to after GW2.

Pre-built Gaming PC?

Is there anything else other than DELL Alienware (which I read uses cheap parts)?

Or should I have a shop build me one? How does warranty work?

Specs:
GTX 680 / ATI 7950
Ivy Bridge i7
would be running off 2560x1440 res display

Background:
I've been using Macs for 8 years. I know nothing about building PCs.
I'm not adversed to fiddling and troubleshooting if something goes wrong, but building one seems staggeringly hard. Not to mention hunting for drivers all over (I assume?).

Also, I've been spoiled by AppleCare. Replacing LCD + GPU on my iMac took 5 days. I don't care for months of waiting for RMA parts to be exchanged.

So I hate hate hate tmnet for severing my connection whenever I torrent something "unencrypted". And I havent found anything that is secure and fast enough to allow smooth torrenting.

Using utorrent mac(only has outgoing encryption I think) severed my connection like 4 times in the last hour, tho if its not severed, its fast. Now I'm trying transmission, so far so good but terrible speed.

Anyone found a way to either circumvent the severing of connection on utorrent or ways to optimized transmission or whatever to find that perfect torrenting experience?

(please dont tell me torrent on windows, which is the last option I guess)

(screw tmnet)

iMac, the "always subpar" desktop

I've always been frustrated about iMacs, being the only consumer desktop class, but never really have the top end anything compared to PCs. This has been true in the past. I know its limitations, being an all-in-one using laptop chips and parts for cooling / power consumption and what not. Also Apple's need to have their high profit margin, using last quarter's technology and charging premium.

Main problem I, with my limited knowledge, saw was cooling.

But with the last refresh, we have desktop class chips for the first time. Bigger enclosure for bigger fans this time. Full alu enclosure for maximum heat dissipation. With more space, separate massive heatsink is possible for the GPU (shared heatsink in previous refresh I think, see iFixit).

Heat dissipation wasn't really a "problem". Apple has been really anal about fan noise. So all iMacs came with lowest fan speed possible. Which caused my current iMac's GPU to go kaput (I suspect) and screen have burnt black marks in area where it gets really hot (I got them replaced recently). Problem could be solved by just kicking up the fan speed (by default by Apple), or manually with SMCFanControl. I digress.

Anyway I'm hoping to God (metaphorically) that Steve wakes the hell up and sees the light, what with the iPodT/iPhone success with gaming. Blizzard has already been on board for a long time now, even though game devs all cite "difficulty" working with Apple. Valve is pioneering the next push with Steam and native Source games.

So do you think the next iMac refresh (rumored June/July, latest Sep/Oct before the holiday shopping season) should get the good stuff? Not bleeding edge but like "current" technology, if you know what I mean.

I know its a steady side income once there's traffic or if you know how to direct people from google to your blog/site...Actually I'm not exactly sure how it works (would appreciate if someone explains it roughly).

But as a web designer, I really hate banner ads, google ads, anything that tarnishes the website you designed. Its so ugly. Is it worth it? Or if I am to go the route of many of you, I should just install some wordpress theme and be done with it.

Its realllly ugly.

Whats the best way to do that?
- Cloning the whole HDD (mostly cos Im lazy)?
- Only backup files manually?
- Time Machine it?
- I do have Bootcamp/win7 in it, so lazy to do over...but a fresh start is nice maybe...

2. How to format it? Or if I even need to worry about this?
- Maybe the software does it for me

3. Which External or Portable HDD that works best with Macs? Or do all of them work?
Im leaning towards Western Digital Passport (listed on those pricelist)

New tmnut screwup, internet only from 9am-5pm

For the past 2 week, the only time my connection is stable is from 9am to 5pm.

This is accurate in that I've observed it die on the dot at 5/5:30pm (give or take 5mins). Then die for the rest of the night, with erratic reconnection for 20mins to a few hours, then die again. Even if I am reconnected during these short periods, my speed will usually be <90kbps. meaning SUPER SLOW. I have had times it returns to full speed after the 5pm disconnection, rare of course.

Connection will basically be dead till 9am (give or take 5mins) the next morning.

My observation of when it dies and come up has been accurate. 9 to 5. The main "symptom" is your modem will be going "Waiting from response" when attempting to dial in.

I have complaint to the 100 helpline / thru email. The matter is still under "investigation". Though I doubt they're doing much. A technician that called me to enquire has confirmed that he has similar cases.

I wanna ask if anyone is experiencing this currently. Is this a new form of torture (torture as in "testing") like how they been capping some people as an experiment?

edit: internet just came back up since 5pm.

Other than that, its working just fine.

I have no idea what to do with it now, since the powerbrick is effectively kaput.

Any suggestion? a trade-in (possibly in the future?) or find ways to fix it.
