Just wanna share this info with Galaxy Nexus owners on U Mobile who can't send SMS.

Thanks to this thread http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2232588/+1060 (see posting #1066),
I found out that my U Mobile SMSC was blank and I needed to key in 07910681010001F8 and press Update and Refresh.
Is your Google Maps draining battery for no reason
Is your Google Maps draining battery for no reason when the phone is idle?
Do you find Google Maps showing up in your battery usage history even when you did not use Google Maps on that day?

Maybe the following forum posting might be the answer to this problem

"I think I figured out what it is. For a few hours now I'm not even seeing maps show up and I used the app for something.
What I did was go into latitude (which wasn't even on in the first time) turned off detect location automatically resigned out of latitude. And it stopped."

Source:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-ne...-no-reason.html

The Galaxy NEXUS has arrived...unofficially

I got my Galaxy Nexus today. It is one heck of a sexy looking device and it feels comfortable in your hand with just the right weight.

And the plastic does not feel cheap at all.

Where did I get it from? I found the advertisement in Mudah. My
And the shop is a famous shop in SS15 Subang Jaya with 2 big Samsung signboards.

Android can eve stop bullets

The tagline by Verizon "There's no limit to what DROID DOES" is a really bold and powerful statement. This statement was what caught my attention and sold me on Android and got myself a Motorola Milestone early last year.

But of course.. that is just marketing/advertising tagline. Surely there's a limit right?

Guess what... Android can even stop bullets now. Damn... there's really no limit to what DROID DOES

http://www.bgr.com/2011/01/07/droid-does-s...ans-life-video/

Custom Froyo ROMs for Milestone

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for this. I am only sharing information. Do this at your own risk.

I have tried 3 custom FROYO ROMs for my Motorola Milestone which are based on the leaked 2.2.1 kernel and they are:
- CyanogenMod 6.1
- G.O.T
- Cronos

So far, the ROM with the worst battery life is CyanogenMod 6.1. My phone only lasted 8 hours based on my normal daily usage as I go about my day. Just browsing 2 websites in the space of 20 minutes with this ROM caused me to lose 30%.

Previously on the stock Android 2.1 update 1 firmware, I only lost 10% in 20 minutes of web surfing usage.
I used to get between 16 to 20 hours on the stock Android 2.1 update 1 firmware based on my daily usage.

It seems that the problem is with the leaked 2.2.1 kernel which is known for bad battery life compared to Android 2.1

So I decided to test G.O.T and Cronos ROM
Cronos and G.O.T Froyo custom ROM battery life is slighly less than what I had used to get with stock Android 2.1 update 1 firmware.

I would suggest for newbies to install the G.O.T rom first as it is the most straight forward plus the ROM already comes with the script to hack or break the locked bootloader on our Motorola Milestone.

G.O.T is actually 99% stock Android 2.2.1 firmware based on one of the official firmware for Milestone (can't remember which country).

There is a very good guide found at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811221

Before you start:
- Remember to make sure your phone is already charged to the max (100%) b4 you attempt at installing any custom ROMs.
- Familiarise yourself with what is Recovery Mode and Bootloader Mode and how to boot into those modes.
- Learn what is Open Recovery and what are the different types of Open Recovery out there for the Milestone for different type of custom ROMs.
Note: For the G.O.T version, u will specifically need to install the G.O.T Open Recovery menu.

For those of you who want to try CRONOS Froyo for Milestone version 1.7, then here's the link:
http://www.cronosproject.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=596

So good luck.

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for this. I am only sharing information. Do this at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to install Cronos Froyo ver.1.7 for Milestone

Step 1:
Make a Nandroid backup first of your current setup.

Step 2:
Use Androidaini open recovery. U can google it to download the update.zip file as well as the Open Recovery Folder.

Step 3:
Plug in phone to PC and switch to Memory Card Access USB Connection Mode.

Step 4:
If u are not using G.O.T's Open Recovery, then delete the existing update.zip and open recovery folder on your SD card first.

Step 5:
Copy the update.zip and Open Recovery folder for Androidaini's version to the root of your SD card.

Step 6:
Go download the following files
Cronos version 1.7 - http://www.multiupload.com/HWSZL2T9BL

Cronos version 1.7 update 1 - http://www.multiupload.com/AXHTRFOCAO

Latest Gapps - http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/gapps-hdp...1114-signed.zip

You should then have the following 3 files:

CFMM-1.7.0_S_signed_.zip
CFMM-1.7.1-update1_.zip
gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip

Step 7:
Copy all 3 files to your phone's SD card to the following path
SDcard\Open Recovery\Updates

Step 8:
Unplug the phone from the USB cable and reboot into Recovery mode.

Step 9:
In the Recovery menu, select Install SDcard:update.zip

Step 10:
In the Androidaini Open Recovery menu, do all 3 wipes first:
Dalvik, Cache and Data Wipe.

Step 11:
Then look for "Apply Update" and install the CFMM-1.7.0_S_signed_.zip first.
Then install gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip

Then do a reboot.

Step 12:
After reboot, reboot back to Androidaini Open Recovery mode and repeat the process for
CFMM-1.7.1-update1_.zip

Step 13:
Reboot back into Androidaini Open Recovery mode again and look for a menu called 2.2.1 menu or mods.

Step 14:
Look for Memory Manager Menu. Once u are in Memory Manager menu, apply the "mild" memory settings. I did this because the default Cronos ROM was storing too many active apps in memory resulting in leaving only 24mb of RAM left which caused the browser to lag when I type on my QWERTY keyboard when reply to comments via the full Facebook website.

Once I applied the "mild" memory management settings, my Milestone now has minimum 56mb or RAM available free. And it solved the lag problem I had with typing with QWERTY keyboard in Facebook.

How to get a smoother UI on your Android

It totally transformed my phone. I have since then introduced it to many other different Android phone owners
and they have since then been very happy with LauncherPro.

You can download the free version of LauncherPro from the Android market

Watch these 2 videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9svaxg-Vvo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujg2cpzZPBM
