Comedian held to assist in sex trafficking case

KUALA PILAH: A popular comedian has been detained to assist in police investigations into a human trafficking case.

Kuala Pilah OCPD Supt Amran Mohd Ghani said the suspect, in his 40s, was arrested at a hotel here on Monday (Aug 2), according to a report by Sinar Harian.

He said police had also managed to save a woman from sexual exploitation during the raid.

"Police also seized condoms, cash, four mobile phones and a Perodua Axia in the 10am raid," he said.

Supt Amran said the suspect had been remanded for four days to assist in the probe.

The woman, he said, had also obtained a temporary protection order and had been sent to a safe home in Johor.

The case, he said, is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

Offenders can be jailed up to 15 years and fined upon conviction.

Supt Amran said the suspect had also been issued a compound for violating the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 for travelling interstate.

Monspace founder believes investigations into company will clear its name

KUALA LUMPUR: E-commerce company Monspace Multinational Corporation will fully cooperate with authorities, with founder and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Jessy Lai (pic) saying the investigation will prove the company's legitimacy.

"We welcome the investigations. I am confident that it will show that we are clean," she said in a press conference Friday (July 27) at their Bukit Jalil office here.

Lai also claimed that there had been false reports online – without specifying what they were – which exaggerated the situation and she was considering legal action pending advice from her lawyers.

Speaking about certain accounts that had been frozen by authorities, Lai said 15 out of the 72 bank accounts were directly linked to the business.

Regarding her travel ban, Lai said that she would comply with the instruction.

"Regardless if I'm blocked or not, I have to stay in Malaysia because I need to help my staff during the course of the investigation," she said.

On Wednesday, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs enforcement director Datuk Roslan Mahayudin said that they had raided a multiple Monspace offices.

The operation, dubbed Ops Coin, saw raids on 16 premises linked to the company for allegedly running an illegal investment or "money games" scheme.

Authorities also froze 72 accounts with funds amounting to about RM5mil.

KUALA LUMPUR: Multinational e-commerce group MonSpace (M) Sdn Bhd founder Jessy Lai said today the RM93,879 seized in a recent raid by officials at her home belonged to her, and not the company.

“There were four different types of currencies,” she told a media conference today.

“Of the RM90,000 seized, I had Euros, RM300 in ringgit, US$20,000 and 10,000 Renminbi. These were just for my personal use,” she said.

At a press conference, Lai confirmed that 16 of the company’s premises had been raided by the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry earlier this week.

She said the money was her personal money and not that of the company.

When pressed further, she said, “I am the company”, to rounds of laughter from those present.

MonSpace is being investigated for allegedly running an illegal investment scheme.

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) previously revealed that MonSpace was registered as a Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) business.

Authorities have since frozen 72 accounts from MonSpace’s Ipoh and Klang Valley premises. Lai has also reportedly been barred from travelling abroad.

Asked to confirm if all the bank accounts had been frozen, Lai said she had yet to check, but that all 15 bank accounts of their Bukit Jalil headquarters had been frozen.

Lai said she had yet to check with the Immigration Department on her blacklist status.

But she was confident business would go on as usual as, she said, she had not received any complaints from her customers or shareholders.

“They are like family, they understand what we are going through and want to help us.”

MonSpace and Lai first made headlines in 2016 when an airlines group linked to the company was found operating a commercial flight without a valid air service permit. The group was later fined RM380,000 after pleading guilty to the offence.

Last year, 70 Chinese nationals lodged police reports on a “misleading” investment scheme run by MonSpace. DAP MPs at the time had voiced concern over MonSpace and the supposed scheme.

MonSpace is listed in BNM’s Financial Consumer Alert watch list because of these incidents. The list includes websites and companies neither authorised nor approved under relevant laws and regulations.

Lai confirmed that the company was still on BNM’s watch list.

The current investigation into MonSpace is being done under Section 27B of the Direct Sales and Anti-Pyramid Scheme 1993 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Apart from the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry, officials from BNM, the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Companies Commission of Malaysia are also involved in the investigation.

PETALING JAYA: A mufti today zeroed in on the religious view of opposite sexes sharing an Uber or GrabCar ride, saying it could come under the definition of “khalwat” or close proximity, an offence under Malaysian shariah laws.
Federal Territories Mufti, Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said the definition of khalwat, or close proximity between a man and a woman without marital ties, was also applicable when they travelled together in the same vehicle.

“It does not matter if khalwat takes place at parks, lakes, or in a room or hotel. Likewise in a vehicle used for as taxi, Uber or Grab,” he said, writing on the official website of the FT Mufti.

But Zulkifli said circumstances dictated that the rule on khalwat could be suspended in an Uber or Grab setting provided the passenger, upon knowing that the driver was from the opposite sex, is seated at the back.

In addition, he said the passenger should also not engage in a conversation with the driver “unless it is really needed”.

He added that the driver should also avoid isolated routes.

“This way they will be shielded from any form of slander,” he said in a posting accompanied by religious texts to back his arguments.

He said one way men or women could avoid being in a “khalwat” setting was for a driver or passenger to cancel the ride-hailing request once their personal particulars were shown on the Uber or Grab application.

He admitted that frequent cancellation would affect one’s Uber or Grab account, saying this was where the rule of necessity applied.

“On the condition that the passenger is seated at the back of the vehicle, and does not engage in conversation with the driver unless when it is really needed.”

PETALING JAYA: Berkongsi kereta melalui khidmat Grab dan Uber melibatkan bukan muhrim masih boleh dikategorikan khalwat, kata Mufti Wilayah Persekutuan, tetapi berkata ia dibolehkan dengan syarat penumpang duduk diam di bahagian belakang kenderaan sekiranya mendapati pemandu berlainan jantina.

Menjawab soalan mengenai hukum lelaki dan wanita menggunakan perkhidmatan kongsi kenderaan itu, Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri berkata syarat lain yang perlu dipatuhi ialah laluan yang digunakan “tidak sunyi”.

“Pemandu melalui jalan yang tidak sunyi agar terlindung dari sebarang fitnah,” katanya dalam penulisan di laman rasmi Pejabat Mufti Wilayah Persekutuan.

Beliau memberikan beberapa dalil mengenai definisi khalwat, istilah Arab yang membawa maksud bersendirian atau berasingan.

“Maka berdasarkan beberapa dalil yang kami kongsikan di atas, dapatlah kita fahami bahawa berdua-duaan di antara lelaki dan perempuan yang bukan mahram adalah suatu perbuatan yang haram lagi ditegah.

“Ini sama ada khalwat itu berlaku di taman-taman bunga, taman tasik, di dalam bilik atau hotel, dan begitulah juga di dalam kenderaan seperti teksi, Uber, atau GrabCar,” katanya.

Beliau mengesyorkan pengguna khidmat Uber dan Grab berusaha mengelak daripada berkongsi kenderaan dengan bukan muhrim, dengan membatalkan tempahan selepas memeriksa butiran diri pemandu atau penumpang yang dipaparkan aplikasi berkenaan.

Bagaimanapun, Zulkifli mengakui perbuatan kerap membatalkan tempahan akan menyebabkan penggantungan akaun dan memberi kesan buruk terhadap pendapatan.

Menurutnya, kebenaran bukan muhrim untuk berada dalam kenderaan sama adalah atas dasar “darurat”, iaitu disebabkan keperluan yang tidak dapat dielakkan.

“Dengan syarat penumpang itu duduk di bahagian belakang kenderaan, tidak berbual melainkan sekadar yang perlu sahaja.”

[Serious] Witness needed for Hit and Run

Hi /k/,

I know it's a long shot but my friend's son was involved in a hit and run case (he was on foot) on the night of 6th August (Thursday) between 10.30pm to 11pm. The tragedy happened along Jalan Syed Putra heading towards PJ at the bus stop (nearby Petron and Mid Valley turn off). The accident caused him to end up on the most right lane of the road and he is currently in the ICU ward in UH. Doctor could not ascertain the full damage at the moment as he is under sedation and the brains and face is swollen with deep wounds. He is still unconscious.

As the family members were not around at that time, I'm pleading anyone with any information regarding the accident to PM me. At the moment, police report has been lodged however we do not have any information at all, that includes the license plate or the vehicle type/model. The police could not verify if the CCTVs around the area are working properly.

If you are a passer-by who was waiting for a bus and witnessed the accident, kindly contact me through PM. If you are also one of those kind souls who attended to the boy, please contact me as well as any information would be useful for us to track that person down. If you are the driver who managed to follow/chase or is behind the vehicle, I plead you to contact me.

I thank you in advance from the bottom of my heart for any information available and I pray that the boy will survive through the critical stage.

need help here to clean the log....

yesterday as i transfer the log from my frens brontok infected com to my desktop to post here...the thumb drive tat got infected actually infected my com too...then i ran system restore to the day b4...so it was fine..but then my com is acting very weird...when i start my com and when it reaches the loading screen..the BSOD will appear and it will restart all over again...i cant see BSOD coz it dissapear too fast..wat i did was start in safe mode but it will hang..then press the restart button then run windows normally..then only can log in to window...after logging in...a few minutes after tat my audio driver will be missing and my desktop theme will change to windows classic theme...when i wan to change back to xp theme it is missing..

Need help!Acer lappy problem!

i juz bought a acer aspire series lappy in pc fair...then these few days gila aleidi...not sure wats happening...when i start computer there is the windows log in sound...but after a few minutes when i on windows media player an error came out stating tat no mixer is found and cant play the song...when i click on volume control it states that no mixer is found and ask me to go control panel to add hardware...but i cant seem to add any hardware...even uninstall and installing back the sound driver does not work...dunno wats happening..

secondly after i log in...after 5 minutes my desktop appereance will change automatically to windows classic theme..when i wan to change back to windows xp theme in properties the windows xp theme does not exist...i try going to appearance and change the windows xp style but it also not exist...after a while it will suddenly change back to the xp theme....dunno wats happening oso...

pls help me here...i dunno wat to do and sorry for my bad english..hope u guys out there can und and help me....
