No DSL light after connecting Wireless Router

Hey guys.
I have a problem with my wireless modem router which I have bought a few days ago.
The model that I bought is TP-Link's Wireless Modem Router, TD-W8901G.
After connecting all the necessary cables (telephone line and the cable from the computer) and switching the modem on, the DSL light did not light up.
I am very sure that my broadband connection works as my brother used his modem (normal broadband modem) to test the connection which turned out fine.
I have also checked the cables which turned out to be fine as well.

Hence, I wonder is there anyone who has faced the same problem before?

I read somewhere in this forum that some people bought other brands of wireless modem router but couldn't use in their area. Does a person's location have an effect on the type of wireless modem router??

Thanks in advance for any kind of comments.
