I dropped my external hard drive on the floor and it will not read now. When I connect it, it says "USB device malfunction" and I hear some spinning sounds from the hard drive. Is there any way that I can recover the data from it? It's extremely important!

Hi guys, last morning I shut down my laptop and turned off all the switches connected to it. I went off to work and when I got back, my laptop would not boot! I do not know if it's because of a power surge or what. I press the button to turn it on and the caps lock lights turn on for 4 seconds, some sounds can be heard and the system shuts itself off without any display whatsoever.

What should I do? I want it fixed ASAP. Should I send it to a shop?
