i have a friend who's working in Singapore, the friend signed up for an ilp (HSBC Life Wealth Voyage) and can't sustain it because the friend won't be working in Singapore anymore. My friend thought will be working there for many years to come but that's not the case.

Details

ilp (HSBC Wealth Voyage)

Monthly premium: $500

Premium paid to date: $8,500

Age of plan to date: 1 year 5 months

Plan maturity: 25 years

Now asking for help if should cut the loses and cancel the policy to prevent anymore money from being sunked in? My friend don't think can find anyone to sell and take over the policy. painful lesson

bad grammar to prevent leaking of gender of the friend

Hello and good day, lad's and lasses. Just curious and wanted to ask if a West Malaysian, keeps on going in and out to either Kuching, Sarawak or Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, will it send off red flags to the local immigration authorities there? Like a company consultant that is a West Malaysian but work requires the consultant to go there weekly, do-able?

i have noticed that there are a lot of irresponsible people around, they will take off their masks to adjust their glasses, fix their makeup, blow their noses, etc....

but if they dropped their masks on the floor, suddenly their brains will tell them that, "oh, that mask isn't yours anymore and its a biohazard to pick it up, leave it there and walk away to save yourself"

lots of irresponsible people that litters

using MyKad as TnG card

Hello, lads and lasses.

Just checking in if we can still use the MyKad as a TouchNGo card? a friend of mine checked with me and i don't have the answer for her as her MyKad's front protective plastic layer started peeling and she got it replaced.

Upon attempting to add the MyKad into both TnG's web portal + eWallet app, it shows invalid card. Will JPN send the numbers as a batch to TouchNGo to activate the MyKad?

Edit: Older batches of MyKad's will have TouchNGo printed behind them, that is not the case for current batches

What would you guys do if you found a Touch N Go (NFC version) card that has a balance of less than RM 20 in it?

Unlike last time where i found a debit card and i return it to Bank Rakyat where they can do their proper procedures to handle it, there's no such proper procedures for a Touch N Go (NFC version) card.

not gonna drive or head all the way to Nu Sentral (i don't live in Selangor/ Kuala Lumpur) just to report and surrender a card i found, hotline is only available (Mon - Fri 8am until 8pm)

What would you guys do? Can't link it to my Touch N Go eWallet account as it says that the card has already been linked to another account

Housing estate idea

hello, lads and lasses. i have this idea for long in my head that i wanna share and see what people's opinions are.

Which is, imagine a housing estate where the whole estate is sheltered by concrete so what you see above you is just concrete and pillars at the surroundings.

But, above the concrete are tons of solar panels and there is a building which houses the batteries to store the energy from tne solar panels.

When you live in there, you will not get to see the sun and street lights will be on 24/ 7.

Plus side is that your electricity bill is greatly subsidized by the solar panels above and your house is cool because no sun

What do you guys think?

i found a debit card slotted in a Lotus's Extra self checkout card terminal today, brought that card to the Bank Rakyat for them to do their thing.

Feels Honest

Will Bank Rakyat destroy the card and make the owner pay RM 12 to have the card re-issued or will the branch at least try to identify and call the card owner to collect their card back?

Why are prepaid plans getting pricier?

Hello, Lads and Lasses.

I'm really disappointed that prepaid plans in Malaysia are actually going up in prices rather than reducing,
*If you don't convert the currency and go with dollar for dollar value, Singapore's network providers are offering it for very cheap

- Hotlink Prepaid Unlimited 3Mbps (50GB F.U.P) with unlimited calls from RM 35 has gone up to RM 40
- Celcom Prepaid (same case) RM 35 up to RM 40
- Digi Prepaid (same case) RM 35 up to RM 40

extra charges between RM 5 - RM 20 for 5G access (Minister is looking into this)

*LTE Coverage isn't that good either, i'm only getting 3 over 4 bars everywhere (Samsung)
* Killed the wrong network, should have killed 2G instead of 3G

Whereas in Singapore, plans are getting cheaper and cheaper.

SIMBA (formerly TPG Telecom), so many people switching to this plan

100GB Plan (SGD $10 only/ mth)
- Unlimited Mobile Calls
- 300 Minutes Local Calls
- 30 SMS

RedOne SG (SGD $8 not sure if GST is included)

Super8
- 8GB1 + 1GB (Roaming in Malaysia) of Mobile Data
- 500 minutes of voice call (includes roaming use in Malaysia)
- 500 SMS (includes roaming use in Malaysia)

Circles.Life (SGD $15.17/ mth)

- 100GB
- 300mins talktime

Heya by Singtel (SGD $10)

- 100GB (with rollover data)
- 1GB (roaming data)
- 300 minutes local calls
- 50 SMS

Hello Lads and Lasses, i was wondering why can't banks have a system where you are able to deposit cash or cheques at any bank deposit machines and at the end, the amount will still be reflected in your account, for RM 1 per transaction of course.

Example for MEPS but reverse,

- Deposit RM 1,000 at Hong Leong Bank, entered in the Standard Chartered Bank account number and the funds will still reach your Standard Chartered account even though it is deposited through Hong Leong Bank's machine

TnG RFID Penang Bridge Discount

Hello, Lads and Lasses.

Chatting with a friend and was told that the friend is a Penang native with a car under the siblings name, the friend recently bought a TnG RFID sticker and tried to register to get a discount for crossing the Penang Bridge (RM 5.74 down to RM 4.59).

Submitted everything through PLUS's portal and was rejected, apparently, you aren't entitled to the discount if you're driving your siblings car, it only works for parent to child or child to parent relationships.

I was thinking to myself what bullshit this is that PLUS has implemented.

EDIT: My friend share this to me, the reason of rejection. (Anyone able to confirm that it means parent to child or child to parent relationships only?)

Sebab: Pemohon tidak layak dengan syarat syarat yang telah ditetapkan
Kenyataan: Keluarga pemilik adalah terdiri daripada Ibubapa atau anak pemilik yang sah sahaja

Hello, Lads and Lasses.

I am truly disappointed with Standard Chartered Bank, I don't wanna get sued or received a "L.O.D", so I can just advise people that if you have anything, screenshot it and send a carbon copy to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM accepts C.c's for reference as it can be evidence).

Long story short, I filed some requests and they can't be bothered to reply. Can't call as calls are now restricted to "emergency/ urgent" cases, such as, lost/ stolen cards, compromised online/ mobile banking login details, unauthorized fund transfers, unauthorized card usage, scam/ fraud over the telephone/ internet.

Never recommending Standard Chartered, will just be keeping an account and doing the bare minimum.

Hello, Lads and Lassies. Let's discuss and share if anyone went through this before.

BNM Credit Card Policy Document

Under Central Bank's policy

8 Minimum age and income requirements
8.1 An issuer shall ensure that a principal cardholder is at least 21 years old and
earns at least a minimum income of RM24,000 per annum.

8.2 An issuer shall ensure that the following restrictions are applied to a principal
cardholder who earns RM36,000 per annum or less:

(a) the cardholder can only hold credit cards from a maximum of two
issuers2; and

(b) the maximum credit limit extended to the cardholder shall be two times
his monthly income per issuer. This is applicable to both existing and
new cardholders.

So, for those whose annual income that falls under RM36,000 and wishes to have more than 2 credit cards, will pledging RM10,000 (Secured Credit Card) bypass the block?

tl;dr - if you're pledging RM10,000 to have a Secured Credit card and is currently holding 2 credit cards, will pledging allow you to hold a 3rd credit card?

I will also find out for myself and share it here someday.

the switch to Mobile app authentication

Hello, Lads and Lasses.

I feel that we're in a strange shift in regards to bank transaction authentication, most or all banks have switched to authenticating bank transactions via Physical Token (Public Bank) or mobile apps (Standard Chartered, RHB, Hong Leong, etc.) in which we have to tap Approve or generate an Offline pin to authenticate the transaction.

But why haven't we switched to that system when it comes to card not present/ online transactions? when I pay for a bill to the mobile service provider or utilities, I still receive an OTP via SMS. We do know that credit cards/ debit cards are also susceptible to fraud, so why haven't BNM made a directive for that or it's because they have to follow the policies of Visa/ Mastercard?

Exception being Standard Chartered Malaysia which already has a system to approve card transactions via the mobile app

TnG GoPinjam

Hello Lads and Lasses, I launched the TnG eWallet app for the fun of it to have a look at how much would I be offered, the amount offered is constantly decreasing, i think the highest I was offered was RM 5,000 , 2022 was RM 1,000 and as of today RM 100. Plus, I can take the deal of RM 100 and pay it back in 5 months (RM 23 x 5) with RM 15 being the interest (RM 3 per month of 5 months).

I feel like taking up the loan just for the fun of it as RM 15 is peanuts. Also, I'm not sure why are the offers are being so low, many TnG GoPinjam users default on the loans? Since its an unsecured loan, what TnG/ CIMB can only do is just to list the defaulters on CTOS.

*shrugs*

I was thinking why don't banks sign you on to a contract for example of 1 year if you receive any gifts such as TnG eWallet reload pin worth RM 500/ free luggage's/ Apple AirPods/ etc.....

Like how internet service providers can tie you to a 2 year contract to offer free WiFi routers or mobile service providers offer "subsidies" for a high cost smartphone for 2 years.

To the banks in Malaysia, you can do this too. Tie those people who want the free gifts or bonuses to a contract and enforce a minimum of RM1,000 per month spending for 1-2 years.
