SAFE ENVIRONMENT- RENTING IN BDR SUNWAY

Hi, my work requires me to move near to Sunway Pyramid next month
When I googled the website, most of the offer are Lagoon Perdana and Mentari Court (all below 1K rental)

Apart from rental fee, my main concern is safety

I rented at Mentari Court about five years back. It was always crowded with Indonesians, Africans, Banglas, etc
I remember seeing certain Indonesian guy got beaten up by a crowd of Indonesian because he was being cocky (drunk I heard)
To add, a group of my female friends got their house lockpicked by some Africans (scary, since the girls' instinct told them something would happen that night; they blocked the door with a cabinet, yet it happened).

One of the girl was almost violated. It was two Africans- one of them came to her room when she's sleeping, placed his palm on her mouth and held her down. She struggled and managed to scream but lost consciousness after being slapped really hard. They didn't tell what else happened but I know the other 2 girls were also treated for some small injuries

For Lagoon Perdana, my junior Chinese friend got so unlucky...twice.
The first time he was robbed, he was not at home. He returned only to find his room almost empty

The second time (staying there but diff unit) he was robbed; he woke up one morning only to find someone pointing a blade to his neck; getting tied up but managed to free himself despite being alone in the house. Again, his laptop was taken and the same goes with his academic certs (someone found the certs and return them to him)

As for myself, I got unlucky when one of the housemate ransacked my room when I was not around.

It's been more than five years. So I'm wondering if Lagoon Perdana and Mentari Court still holding the same reputation

Can you share some of your experience? It would help me to decide further. I prefer somewhere a bit closer to Sunway Pyramid

Many thanks!

[Okay, I know the consciousness part is confusing so I'm editing it lol ]

Balancing ur money for study, food & other things?

I'm quite unsure whether I should put this topic in Education Essentials or in RWI. Maybe mod can decide pls?

Alrite, let me begin. When you were a student, how did you balance your expenses between food, study and other things?
For some of you, food were not provided by the college while for some who were fortunate, they enjoyed the privilege (not so true they said )

Ah, I forget to mention that I used to live within the college.

Food - I stocked lots of instant noodles, 3 in 1 milos and nescafes. Instant noodles, each time make stock about 3 to 5 packets

Study - Photocopy, binding, thesis cover, text books, exercise books. I used to spend a lot on text books. Text books cost about RM65 to RM98 (cheap price if under lecturer's name)

Transport - Use public transport all the time

Leisure - just a little bit. A movie once in a month or two and buy only important mens wear like undies, stocking, shirt if necessary

There are times when I set up a target to spend only RM3 for lunch or RM 2 for supper when I ran out of my noodles stock and left with only drink water.

For me, I focused my expenses more on my study and food. How about you guys?

I learned something about how to make money from others as well:
- Offer to teach mandarin/english or any language to other students (only if you're really an expert) with a small fee
- Sell mobile phone top up
- Sell food for supper (anything you sell that can be consumed is strictly under the uni's law. I'm not suggesting you to breach the law. Just sell healthy and safe food). If u sell spoiled food, no one will ever buy frm you again.
- Freelancing (in case you're expert in what you do but remember to focus on your study as well. Freelancing can consume your energy)
- Offer to teach any class activity (fitness class, etc) with a small sum
- Work part time as college management helper

ps: Those can only be sold to students, if all students dun have money, then what? lol

Update: Lorr, I already rephrase my topic. If still study now also can~

How to go to Manpower in Mid Valley City?

I need to go to Manpower Staffing Services next Tuesday to sign a contract (under Maxis). This is the address:

Manpower Staffing Services (M) Sdn Bhd
Suite 20.01 Level 20
Centrepoint South
The Boulevard
Mid Valley City
59200 KL

I know how to go to Mid Valley megamall via KTM komuter. However, I'm a bit confuse about the Mid Valley City and the Centrepoint South part. I searched the map to Centrepoint South and Mid Valley City and the only map I got showed only the Mid Valley's KTM station and an area surrounded by Lingkaran Syed Putra.

Is it close to the KTM station? Can I reach there by walking?

S&M Store (next to Kotaraya) will close down soon

I'm not so sure if I should post this topic here. For those who are familiar with S&M shop/store, located next to Kotaraya and across the Petaling Street's bridge, the building will close down soon.

I just went there today and was curious when I saw most of the shop set up 'Stock Clearance' sign. For those who do not know about this place, it is a place where you can buy affordable anime VCD and DVD, korean and japanese drama, movies, music videos (MV), concert, etc. You can also buy mobile phone, clothes, etc there.

I assure you that I'm not one of the shop owner It's just that I'm a bit worried about where can I find other anime 'paradise' if this place going to shut down for whatever reason. The other place I know is in Sungei Wang.

I asked some of the shopkeepers where can I locate them after the closing and they either said "I'm not sure" or "Perhaps in Chinatown". I think only one particular shop already secure its place in Petaling Street --> Hero Comics.

Right now, they are busy clearing their stock. You can find lots of korean MVs such as Superjunior, Mirotic, Se7en, etc. being sold at half price (about RM25 to RM35). The same goes with Korean and Jap drama as well as the anime videos. Ah yes, the video set such as Supernatural, Tudors, and Smallville are quite cheap as well. Normally, the price is about RM 70+, now the price is RM35.

Yes, yes, I know you shouldn't trust something that has become too cheap to be true. That's why you must buy them carefully. Check the subtitles. If you can understand Korean or Japanese, that's just great. However, if the subtitles make you dizzy for the whole day, then you will regret for the whole month.

Ah yes, one more thing; the shopkeepers said that the place will shut down on June. This is the simple map to the S&M store:

|S&M STORE| KOTARAYA|

[ ] B
[ ] R
[ ] I
[ ] D
[ ] G
[ ] E

| PETALING STREET | MC DONALD

From the Petaling Street, cross the bridge and ta daaa! You will arrive at the S&M lot. Go inside, go to the third level for videos, comics, games, etc. I think you will find clothes and mobile phones at affordable price there too.

It is an adventure (point and click games) with 1st and 3rd person environment with classic haunting experience. For example, the use of nite-cam, torch light, EVP recording, camera and sudden apparition voices and appearances.

I juz wanna share this games with u guys. Juz recently fall in luv (or scared) with this game. Normally, I don't like adventure games as they have lots
and lots of puzzle. Juz try and play this game.

Below is the cover image.

I've been to Low Yat before and right now I'm using the ATI Radeon Color X700 DDR3 128MB (PCI-E). The graphic card was recommended by one of the Low Yat shop's salespersons 2 years ago after failing to install the AGP type card that I bought before. So, the salesperson told me to change my card to PCI-E type and from there on I've been using the X700 series.

However, due to high pc-games' system requirements these days, I have finally decided to change my graphic card. I managed to search a list of compatible graphic card on the MSI website. However, it’s quite difficult for me to compare the list with the models being sold in Low Yat (or in Malaysia). I hope someone would be nice and helpful enough to recommend me which card I should buy because when I read the list, I couldn't match any of them with the products being (the PDF files) listed on Low Yat website

This is the list of the cards
hxxp://www.msi.com/uploads/test_report/TR1_170.pdf
(change hxxp to http)

Thank you.

Can something be done with MP4 Player battery?

Morning everyone. I just recently bought an MP4 player. I actually intended to juz tengok2 the item. However, due to the distractions from my friends who were flirting with the amoi(s), my adrenaline rush made me bought it.

It was my first time buying an MP4 player. The enthusiastic feelings that i had made me overlooked the quality of the player. The 'small ring' - the part where you can put a string to the player is rusted. The rust-dusts form a small circle around it. I admit, i overlook it.

I manage to take out the 'ring' and replace it with something else.

And then, after playing some mp3s not more than two hours, its battery supply becomes low. I opened the manual and it says that the player can be used up to 5 hours. There are too many differences between two hours and five hours.

Can i do something about the power supply? Mine is using USB. Does any shop offer this kind of service? I still have the warranty, but...just in case

-STORM MP4
-WL118S-2GB
-Voice recorder, mp3 player, video player (AMV format), FM Radio, E-Book, Driver USB Memory, Telephone Book, Voice/Sound Recording, Equalizer/Bass

I bought this player for RM119 (i know it sounds too less-pricey, should have realized something was fishy. I was being naive... the shop says it is a Chinese new year sales )
but still, when i take a look around, the STORM MP3 player and MP4 is one of the less-pricey brand in Low Yat. Less-pricey means they come from China. Am i correct?

Disc 1 of Neverwinter Nights 2 is corrupted!?

Herm, i bought Neverwinter Nights 2 which contains 2 DVD and that really cost a lot. It seems that whenever i tried installing using disc 1 and what happened? No autorun and the .exe can't even be launched. I went to several stores, deciding to buy a new one. However, i learned my lesson. I ask the shopkeeper to try installing the disc 1 into their pc and guess what? the same thing happened. For your info, i tried 2 locations. In SA and KL. Low Yat? Not yet.

They tried several Disc 1 and all ended up the same. I will feel very dissappointed if this corrupted disc 1 had been distributed to the whole Malaysia and we will ended up buying corrupted game disc

Blue Screen? Oh my god!

When our screen turns into the blue screen with the boring error messages bla bla bla, what are the usual problems? Was it caused by RAM, graphic card or something else? I notice that sometimes, even when my DVD combo is trying to read a DVD and cannot working properly (i'm planning to buy a new DVD Writer at low yat this month ;p) the screen suddenly turns blue. I thought only things on mother board or hardisk can do this.

By the way, which DVD Writer brand is good for reading as well writing? My budget should be around RM 200

Does anyone knows any tools for reading Microsoft error report? I mean tools that can read dump files and binary code after recovering from any anomalies so that we can analyze which part of the pc cause the error

Corruptable Boot Sector?

Hi, i'm new here. I want to ask you guys one thing. Could a hard disk, which was claimed that its boot sector was damaged, be repaired or return to its normal condition by any technician? I heard that there are some websites that can provide this kind of services but they really cost a lot
