Gov to dispose loans

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed in principle to dispose of part of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlers' loans amounting to RM8.3 billion as an initiative to revive the 65-year-old organisation.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the disposal of the loans which would be implemented through a conditional loan adjustment initiative would reduce the loan burden of each settler by an average of 80 per cent.

"The average loan repayment is expected to be reduced from around RM800 to RM1,000 to only RM250 to RM300 a month for oil palm settlers and as low as RM150 for rubber settlers, which is a very reasonable and affordable rate for them."

He said this in a pre-recorded speech broadcast live on television and online platforms in conjunction with the Settlers' Day celebration today.

Muhyiddin said the initiative was one of the three-pronged strategies - Restart, Revitalise and Reform - to bring back the glory of Felda as the world's leading plantation company and eventually to be listed as among successful global companies, such as in the Fortune Global 500.

GTX 460 freezing issue

I'm facing this problem: My computer won't boot past Windows login screen. When I got this graphic card, it worked for a few days (around 1 week) and one day it decides not to go past the login screen.

I've tried the following:-

Use Driver Sweeper to delete all residues (NVIDIA, Control Panel, PhysX, etc.)
Sending it back to my seller. The card is 100% working in his computer. This indicates that there's nothing wrong with the GPU
The seller is using ECS motherboard, tested the card, successfully login and tested running Furmark, OCCT
Plug in my NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT, computer booted straight into Windows
Boots into Safe Mode with GTX460 installed, working, but no graphic acceleration
Tried WHQL drivers that supported GTX460
Tried the fix in EVGA forum, not working
Underclock the card back to the default clocks

My computer spec:-

Anyone got any more suggestions?

DiGi and filehosting services

Since April 25, 2010, all of a sudden I could not load file-hosting websites such as Rapidshare, Megaupload and Mediafire. I thought it was a temporary network problem but up till now, the problem has not be resolved. My friends using DiGi Broadband is also facing this problem. Those websites could not be load! I went and used RSIP to try and enter Rapidshare, and voila, I can load the page (still can't download). This is obviously some throttling going on here. So, I posted on the forum stating my problem and found out that several users are also facing this "problem".

This condition only happens after quota finish. If quota haven't finish, then those websites still can be loaded. So, this means that after the quota finish, DiGi not only throttle the speed, but also block those file-hosting websites.

Personally, I think it's unfair for users for DiGi to block these websites. This is utter BS. Come on, throttling to 128 kbps is not enough?

But lately there's not much disconnection going on, so is this their way to solve the disconnection problem? By blocking websites to conserve their bandwidth?

Setting Up Parameters for HandBrake

Launch HandBrake (after installing it, obviously)
Click Source > Video File (on the top left)
Locate the folder that contains the video you want to be processed, then click OK
After that, choose the destination where the file will be saved after processing finished
You may choose whichever container you prefer in the container list (I'd recommend MP4 though since it's supported by more media player and devices compared to MKV)
Below the Container selection, you will see a bunch of tabs (Picture, Video Filters, ...), I'd suggest leaving those to default except the one I mention:-
- Video:
  - Video Codec: H.264 (x264)
  - Framerate (FPS): Same as source
  - For the quality, I'd suggest using Target Size (MB) and setting it to whatever size you want your video to be. (e.g. for TV series (SD), I'd suggest 160 MB)
  - Tick 2-Pass Encoding (it will take 2x longer compared to 1-Pass, but the quality is significantly better)
- Leave all other tabs to their default value
After setting up those, click Add to Queue (top)
If the Encode Queue window does not show up, just click the Show Queue to display the Encode Queue window
In the Encode Queue window, click Queue > Generate Batch Script, save the batch file (remember where you save it, you need to edit it in the next step)

Editing the batch file, for batch encoding, the easy way

Use Notepad or any other text editor of your choice to open the batch file you have created just now
You will see something like this:-

Well, it's fine if you just want to automate encoding for 1-2 files, you can just copy-paste that line and change the input and output name of the code above. But if you were to encode 50 files, you'll definitely face some severe handache by the time you copy the 20th times. Fortunately, batch file in Windows can use the loop function, which would make this process significantly easier (and also save the muscle pain cream money).
Add this in front of the above code

What is Game Explorer and how do I access it
Game Explorer is a feature in Vista and 7 for easier management of large collection of games.
To access it, click on the Start Orb, and then click Games. Game Explorer is only available in Windows® Vista and Windows® 7.

What does this guide do
This guide will show you how to add games into your Game Explorer, with all the nice description, information, game rating, and box art. Of course, editors such as VGEE already exist, but there are limitations in that editor. You cannot adjust the game rating, WEI requirement, Play Tasks, Support Tasks, adding Game Provider, and creating GDFs.

What is a GDF
GDF stands for Game Definition File. A GDF is basically a file which contains all the game metadata. This is the file we're going to create to register a new game.

What do I need
To create a GDF file for Game Explorer, you will need these tools which are download-able.

DirectX SDK (March 2009) or later (DXSDK)
Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2008 (Express or Professional) (VS2008)
Some image editor to edit box art and icons
Some basic knowledge about regedit
Some basic knowledge about VS2008 (no need knowledge about programming, so don't worry)
(Optional) Photoshop user: Please install the ICO plugin (ICOFormat) to create icons
(Optional) Icobundle: to combine multiple resolution of icons into a single .ico file
(Optional) Iconsext: to extract .ico files from .exe/.dll files

Step 1: Creating a GDFInstall to help register the GDF

Start DirectX Sample Browser
Browse to "System"
Look for GameuxInstallHelper
Click Install Project for the GameuxInstallHelper
Click OK when asked to go to the newly created folder
Open the "GameuxInstallHelper_2008.sln" file
Build the solution using VS2008.
Congrats, you've completed the first step. You'll notice a file named "GDFInstall.exe" and "GameuxInstallHelper.dll" created in the Debug folder of the solution.

Step 2: Creating a Resource File
A resource file is required so that you can compile a GDF DLL.

Start DirectX Sample Browser
Browse to "Tools"
Look for "Game Definition File Editor "
Click Executable (This will open a program named "GDFMaker.exe"
Click File > New Project (alternatively, just click the white document button below File)
Enter Project Name (I'd recommend naming it with your game name)
Enter Project Location (Just put somewhere you remember, it can be deleted after you create the DLL), then click OK
Enter all the information of the game. (I'd recommend saving periodically to avoid data loss)
After finishing entering the information and putting those fancy boxart, click Resource > Build Script for Project
2 files will be created at the Project Location (a .h and .rc file, to be exact)

Step 3: Compiling a DLL

Start VS2008
Create a new empty Project (for the location, it's preferably you put it the same with the Project Location just now)
Right click on the Solution, and select Properties (in the Solution Explorer)
Browse to Configuration Properties > Linker > Input
In the Additional Dependencies, enter "LIBCMTD.lib" (w/o quotes)
Next, browse to Configuration Properties > General
In the Configuration Type (under Project Defaults), select Dynamic Library (.dll)
Click OK
Right click on the solution again, this time click Add > Existing Item...
Browse to the 2 files you have created in Step 2 (.h and .rc file)
Click Add
Build the solution
A .dll will be created in your Debug folder of the solution. This is the GDF dll you need.

Final step: Adding the game to Game Explorer

Move the .dll file you've compiled just now to your game directory
After copying, drag the .dll directly to the GDFInstall.exe you've created in Step 1
Voila, you've just added the game to your Game Explorer

Frequently asked question

I have set ESRB rating for my game but it doesn't show in the Game Explorer
To make the game rating appears, you will have to edit the registry entry of the game. Please note that this guide will require some certain degree of knowledge about editing Windows Registry Editor¹
1. Open Regedit.exe
2. Browse to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameUX
3. You'll see a lot of entries such as {1D2039 ...}. These are called GUID. It is used to differentiate each games.
4. Locate the game by slowly browsing through the list. (When creating the GDF in the GDF Editor, you'll find the GUID of the game on the top left of the editor)
5. After you'll found the game, add a new DWORD value named "IsSigned" (w/o quotes)
6. Set the value as 1
7. After changing that, refresh the Game Explorer and you'll see the rating for the game
I have added the game into the Game Explorer, but I cannot launch the game through Game Explorer
This is most probably because you have entered the wrong parameter when you are creating the resource file in Step 2 for the PlayTasks parameter. Please double-check.
The game is not displaying the correct version
You need to point the Version parameter in the Editor to the correct file. For example, for StarCraft: Brood War, you should set the Version parameter in the editor to point to a File, instead of typing in the version manually. Then enter "StarCraft.exe" as the filename. It will display the version of the StarCraft.exe file.
I cannot click OK when I'm adding the details for Publisher or Developers
You have to enter the URL of the developer/ publisher and need to include the "http://" in the URL too.

¹ To access Registry Editor, just type in regedit.exe in your search bar in the Start Menu.

Game Explorer Usage

I'm just wondering if there's a lot of users for Game Explorer. It's a much simpler ways to organize games if you have a massive collection of games, but AFAIK, there are some games that doesn't register into Game Explorer after installation. So, if there's any request to make a Game register nicely (that is, with all the nicely boxart, game information), I can create a file to register the game into GE. As I've understand it, there's already an utility that can edit the GE (VGEE) but the problem with VGEE is that it doesn't let user to select the game provider, support tasks, game rating and windows experience index. But as I'm using the SDK directly, I can customize the options directly.

This is my game explorer currently. Notice that I've added Steam into the game provider list.

How Game Explorer works: The Technical Side
Notes: It will require some knowledge on Registry Editor (regedit.exe) to understand this.

When a game is added to Game Explorer, it will create an entry in regedit [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVerseion\GameUX]. The Game Explorer will read this entry for information about the game. In this entry will contain an unique ID for each game. And in the unique ID folder there will be a key named "ConfigGDFBinaryPath"***. This key actually points to a GDF file which contains the game metadata. If you have browsed through your game directory, you'll usually see a file named "GDF.dll"* (Note: This only applies to newer games that are certified with GFW) This GDF.dll file is where the "ConfigGDFBinaryPath" points at.

For some popular older games, the Windows can auto-detect the game and download the metadata information directly from Microsoft. Unfortunately, this do not apply to some unpopular games. So, it won't be added into the GE (that is, it won't have those nice boxart, information if you just drag the shortcut into GE). To get those nice metadata displayed, you'll require a custom GDF.dll that can be created using GDF Editor from DirectX SDK**. And then just create an entry to point the "ConfigGDFBinaryPath" of the unrecognized game to the custom GDF.

*Sometimes it's named as GameUX.dll, and sometimes the metadata is stored in their .exe.

***Sometimes it doesn't exist, must be created prior to directing to GDF file.

RAID Timeout

I've just build a RAID0 setup, and everything is working very well. But the only concern is that how do I change the timeout of the Nvidia mediashield rom bios so it doesn't always prompt me the Ctrl+A message when I boot my computer.

Heat sink question

I'm thinking of buying TRUE 120 for my E8400 so I can OC at a safe temp (now using stock cooling and when OC'ed to 3.6GHz, load temp is ~77C, which is quite high).

But, I'm wondering if the heatsink will be too heavy and break my motherboard if I put the computer in vertical position? The thing looks heavy from the pictures and I've seen a lot of people with heatsinks put their motherboard in horizontal position.

Is it very noisy if I attach a 120mm fan on the heatsink?

Customizing Microsoft® Windows Vista™ System Properties

Have you ever wanted to customize your Vista system properties so it's personalized to your taste? It's not that hard to do it. Just follow these simple instructions to get it personalized the way you like it.

Pre-requisite
- Back up your registry
- A Logo with bitmap (.BMP) file type

Find/Create OEMInformation key
1. Open Registry Editor (Click > type "regedit" in the Start Search field and press Enter)
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation
3. If it does not exist, then right click on the CurrentVersion and click New and then Key.

4. Name the new key as "OEMInformation" (without the quotes)

Create values
After creating the OEMInformation key, you'll need to create values so the Windows know where is your logo and what information it'll display in the System Properties.
1. Right Click on the OEM Information
2. Select New > REG_DWORD
3. Name the new DWORD as "HelpCustomized" (without the quotes)
4. Right Click on the OEMInformation again
5. Select New > String Value
6. Name it as "Logo"
7. Repeat step 4-6 except this time you name the new string values as "Manufacturer", "Model", "SupportURL", "SupportPhone", "SupportHours"
8. You should get something like this:-

Modify values
1. Right click on "Logo", click Modify...
2. This should be your path to your logo file. (e.g. If you put your logo file into C:\, then it will be "C:\<logoname>.BMP")
3. Right click on "Manufacturer", click Modify...
4. This will be displayed as Manufacturer name in your System Properties
5. Do the same thing as you did for the Manufacturer with "Model", "SupportURL", "SupportPhone", and "SupportHours".
