KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa said today that British paedophile Richard Huckle’s case should not be in any way linked to Nur Fitri Azmeer Nordin, the mathematics scholar who was last year convicted for possession of child pornography.

Annuar said this when asked if MARA would stand by its decision to give Nur Fitri a second chance after Huckle’s case, which has sparked outrage in Malaysia.

"No need to link Nur Fitri to this case," the Ketereh MP told Malay Mail Online via WhatsApp.

When asked his reasons for saying so when both youths were found in possession of indecent images of children, Annuar did not elaborate, merely replying, “No”.

In May last year, Nur Fitri was sentenced to a five-year jail term in the UK after he was convicted of possessing thousands of videos and photos of child porn including 601 “Category A” images depicting penetrative sex with minors.

MARA had initially said it had cancelled Nur Fitri's scholarship but later decided to offer the youth second chance by allowing him to study at any of its institutions of higher learning upon the completion of his sentence.

It was reported in June last year that Nur Fitri had obtained the green light to be extradited to Malaysia after serving his sentence. It is believed that the youth is now back in the country.

On Monday, Huckle was sentenced to life in prison by a London court for abusing 23 Malaysian and Cambodian babies and children over almost a decade.

Reuters reported that Huckle, 30, was given 22 life sentences and would serve at least 23 years behind bars for his crimes against impoverished victims aged six months to 11 years.

Huckle, who is believed to have abused up to 200 children, reportedly admitted to 71 of 91 charges related to 23 girls and boys that included rape and sexual assault. Twenty-two children are reportedly from mainly impoverished Christian communities in Kuala Lumpur, where he posed as an English teacher and Christian philanthropist, while one is Cambodian.

UK broadcaster Sky News in a report last week said Huckle, whose computer allegedly had over 20,000 indecent images of children, had offered to help teach at schools and churches in Malaysia and was sometimes employed for private tuition in his victims’ homes.

Local authorities are now trying to retrace Huckle’s steps in Malaysia and identify his victims.

Lawmaker and groups here are, however, questioning how the Briton had managed to operate under the radar in Malaysia for so many years before he was arrested in the UK in December 2014.

JOHOR BAHRU - Seorang remaja dijatuhi hukuman penjara selama setahun yang berjalan secara serentak oleh Mahkamah Sesyen, di sini, hari ini selepas mengaku bersalah terhadap 14 pertuduhan menghina Institusi DiRaja Johor.

Muhammad Amirul Azwan Mohd Shakri, 19, membuat pengakuan bersalah di atas kesemua pertuduhan yang dibacakan di hadapan hakim, Sabariah Atan.

Mengikut kesemua pertuduhan, Muhammad Amirul Azwan yang berasal dari Tumpat Kelantan itu didakwa mengeluarkan komen berbentuk jelik dalam laman sosial Facebook atas nama 'Miyo Castello' antara Mac hingga April lepas dengan niat untuk menyakitkan hati Tunku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

Tertuduh yang merupakan seorang buruh itu didakwa melakukan kesalahan di bawah Seksyen 233 Akta Komunikasi dan Multimedia 1998, yang jika sabit kesalahan boleh didenda tidak melebihi RM50,000 atau penjara tidak melebihi setahun atau kedua-duanya.

Muhammad Amirul Azwan dalam rayuannya memohon mahkamah meringankan hukuman ke atasnya memandangkan berasal daripada keluarga miskin dan berjanji tidak akan mengulangi kesalahan serupa.

Timbalan Pendakwa Raya, Nor Azizah Mohamad bagaimanapun memohon mahkamah menjatuhkan hukuman berat kerana menyifatkan ia satu kesalahan serius berbentuk penghinaan terhadap Tunku Mahkota Johor yang bakal menjadi Sultan Johor.

Sabariah kemudian menjatuhkan hukuman penjara selama setahun yang berjalan serentak bermula dari tarikh tertuduh ditahan 28 April lalu.

Married Muslims look to speed dating to find love

KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 — Some married Muslim men are looking to take part in the popular halal speed dating (HSD) in hopes of finding a second wife, according to the organiser of the Shariah-compliant matchmaking event.

However, the event organiser was unable to allow married men to take part in the event as the female applicants did not agree to such an arrangement.

“In the application forms, some said they are married and looking for second wife. Unfortunately, none of the female applicants stated their willingness to meet married men. If there are more, we will arrange but we cannot proceed with just one applicant.

“So, we focus only on applicants who wanted to marry for the first time,” HalalSpeedDating.com chief operations officer Munirah Tunai Shamsidi told ProjekMMO when met at the HSD event yesterday.

HSD, which began last year, is the brainchild of Munirah and her husband Zuhri Yuhyi.

The concept is similar to regular speed dating events where participants are given limited time to get to know one another.

The difference was that female participants will be accompanied by their guardians who will monitor the chat and interactions with non-mahrams (men who are not related by family ties or marriage), in addition to a strict vetting process for those who are serious in wanting a soul mate.

Only those who have passed the vetting process by the organiser will be invited to attend and the ticket is priced at RM120 per person or RM80 for early bird registries.

Munirah told ProjekMMO that their ninth HSD session held yesterday shown an increased attendance where the female attendees outnumbered their male counterparts with a five-to-one ratio.

ProjekMMO observed then during the event that on average, those who signed up for HSD were Malay youths in their early 20s and late 30s.

Most have stable jobs but no time to search for a life partner due to work constraints.

There were also some who are still studying either at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Greetings and salutations

1st of all I'm jobless for 4 months already, susah la cari kerja skrg thank you najib for br1m so I can stock some maggi So recently I went to interview at a plywood factory and have been offered a job as production executive

- Salary RM2,300 fixed, no overtime claim as executive

- Working hours 7am-7pm, working days Monday to Saturday, somtimes public holiday also have to work lol but depends on the schedule made by the factory manager

- Manager says he wants someone that has interest in this industry and willing to work tirelessly. And also work for few years because requires training, I dunno resign notice need how long.

- Accommodation provided single room with air cond, utilities sendiri pay lah

- 3 meals provided per day, but so so food lah even the factory manager admitted

- Job scope I am unclear, just told will be trained since inexperienced in this industry, but will constantly need to walk around the entire production area and communicate with workers

- Working conditions erm...Visited the factory and site, it has a roof but also exposed the sun so it's hot & humid, not to mention got drier. Air is dusty as hell and my throat went dry in 10 minutes from breathing.

- Workers 90% indons, those driving forklift like drifting even through corners lol, kinda dangerous as there are plenty of blind spots

So this is my first job offer in a while after leaving my last job Had interviews with another couple of companies but still no news. Just wondering what /k/ think of this job offer and whether I should go for it, any input is appreciated. In b4 kids these days too spoiled and picky

ps: Im just an engineering grad with 1 year working experience. Location - Sarawak aka bn's fixed deposit
