802.11n mix with 802.11g

Hi all,

I am wondering, if I am using a N1 wireless network router and I have a 802.11g USB doogle, will it benefit me in terms of network streaming ?

I understand that the speed would be bottlenecked/limited to the specification of the G because the N is much faster BUT, what I want to know is that, will the N1 router, it should boost the coverage range and signal level and thus allowing me to achieve a constant and maximum speed according to G's specification.

Signal level affects the speed (G router with G Wifi doogle). But what if using N1 router, which boosts the signal level, will it allow me to achieve a constant high quality signal to maximize the speed constantly ?

Has anyone experienced this or tested this ?

Unable to detect eSATA connected Hard Disk

I have recently purchased a new external harddisk which comes with a eSATA port built-in at the back of the hardware.

My problem with it is, how do i get it to work ? Or in other words, how do i get my Vista Ultimate x64 OS to detect this eSATA connected harddisk ?

1. I have installed the eSATA bracket to the back of my Desktop unit and connected the end of it to the SATA port.
2. I have the external power source switched on for my harddisk all the time.
3. I have the eSATA cable plugged to the eSATA bracket and the external harddisk.
4. I have tried to have all the cables plugged and the external harddisk powered up before i start up my PC. No detection or anything.

Personal troubleshooting methods :-

1. I read from somewhere that i need to enable AHCI in the BIOS for the external harddisk to work via eSATA. I enabled AHCI under BIOS and BSODs started occuring. I went on to research a bit and found that I "should" have enable AHCI before i started installing my Vista or have make sure that AHCI driver or something is enabled/allowed/installed during the installation, which i didn't. If i had, the BSOD wouldn't have been appearing. Nevertheless, i found the remedy for the BSOD. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

2. No more BSODs under AHCI mode but still not detected under my Vista Ultimate x64. Then i continued searching for more remedies on the internet and found this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950186

3. I downloaded the x64 version of he hotfix and have it installed in my system and i gave it a reboot however, I still cannot detect it at all.

PS. I constantly check under Administration Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management after each time the system is freshly rebooted for any newly detected harddisk. I also use the "Scan for hardware changes" under Device Manager each time i am done rebooting. Nothing detected.

This external harddisk which i am using is by Western Digital, MyBook Home Edition.
The USB port works flawlessly without any problem and so does the FireWire port as well.
I bought this harddisk purposely for the eSATA port availability as i crave for speed during transfers.

I am using a Intel P35 chipset motherboard. My other hardwares are probably irrelevant but i shall place them here for the sake of completion.

My motherboard only has 4 SATA ports and as you can count, i have 3 SATA internal harddisks and 1 of my SATA DVDR, so i unplugged the cable for my DVDR for the eSATA bracket. I have both my other External harddisks switched off during this whole process.

I have two different set of eSATA brackets and eSATA cable and have tried both sets but still fail to function. Also, i have two sets of this Western Digital MyBook Home Edition (one belonging to a friend) both fail to function under all these circumstances.

I would be glad to have some expertise or knowledge shared with me to have this hardware functioning like it should. I have done all the troubleshooting which i have come across with.

Portable Hard Disk not readable

Hi. I have a laptop hard disk which was sent for RMA, which i have safely collected it back. I went and bought a external casing for it and assembled them together.

I brought it back home and plugged it to my PC with Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I went into Storage under Computer Management to initialize the (supposingly new) hard disk because it is not formatted (not shown in My Computer).

I seemed to have initialized it and prepared it for formatting. However, while formatting something happened and there was some error message.

It shows up under Windows Vista, initialized but not formatted. I tried to set to format it, an error message pops out saying that the device is not ready. Also, i am not able to see the hard disk under Storage (Computer Management) nor My Computer when i am using Windows XP SP2.

I tried two other PCs with Windows XP SP2 but same thing, not able to see the hard disk under Storage (Computer Management) nor My Computer.

Please help, thank you.

Write Protection on Removable Disk

I don't know why, but there is suddenly a write protection problem each time i try to delete some photos off from my SD card which i am reading it using a card reader. How do i disable the write protection.

Not only that i cannot delete my photos, there are detections of a trojan and a virus which i cannot delete it because of the write protection.

Removing Nero 7 Premium

I am using Windows XP Pro SP2.

Previously i had encountered no such problem until it occurred. Whenever i pop in the installer CD and start the installer, it will run in Japanese language instead of English. I am not using Japanese language under the Regional and Language Option in Control Panels.

After Googling around, i came to aware/suspect that the possible culprit for this is Microsoft Applocale which i had installed way before i tried to install Nero 7 Premium. But as far as i know, i have to personally set Applocale to target which programs or executables to run in the specific language which i want. I didn't not specify Applocale to do anything with the installer.

I can't exactly remember what i did, but i managed to make the installer to run, only to find it installed halfway and it crashed. And under the Add or Remove Programs panel, Nero 7 Premium is registered there. I cannot get it to uninstall nor can i get to overwrite the files by installing over it. Even after removing Applocale, each time i insert the installer CD, the installer will run in Japanese language.

I tried to install Nero 8 or the newer versions, but it requires me to remove the older version of the program before i can start.

So i need some expert help in removing/uninstalling this stubborn program.

Removing Vista

Alright, this is the scenario.

I had installed Vista 32-bit while keeping my previous XP, while allows me to multiboot. Then, i went on to install another copy of Vista which is 64-bit. Therefore, at the moment, during the multiboot page, i have three options to choose.

So now, i wish to remove the 32-bit version of Vista and removing the option for it during the multiboot page. How do i do this ?

Say, if i go ahead and reformat that particular partition where my Vista 32-bit is located, it should wipe out the OS, right ? However, my main concern if i do not proceed with proper procedures, i am afraid that in the multiboot page, the redundant option for Vista 32-bit would be left behind.

Will it still show 3 options after i wipe out the partition where that Vista 32-bit is located ?

Do you remember your youth? Along with the passing of years and the maturing of thoughts, those beautiful dreams, the simple joys are leaving us behind, step by step.

Within the boundless jungles, the Mayan Civilisation was obliterated; along the ancient Silk Road, the kingdom of Gao Chang vanished. Mankind's progress is based on the disappearance of the old. Walking along this path, one thinks of the old saying "Spring flows away with falling flowers and water" and the sentiment "Life does not return to youth"...

After reading the above, what do you think? Please write an essay based on the phrase "path based on transience". Share the stories of you and your peers, express your true feelings, or push forward your viewpoints.

I write this essay for those nameless and named hikkikomori who ceaselessly struggle to retain their otaku status (0).

(0) This essay uses Chinese equivalents of Japanese concepts, which I have translated back into their Japanese sources for clarity. In this case, it used the character for "residence", which is the roots of "otaku". The Japanese "moe" kanji is used in its as-is form. "loli" is mostly just spelt out in English.

Recommend me a Quad-core rig for RM3-4k budget

Rather than creating another thread, i'll just re-use this one to seek for recommendation.

I am looking for a multimedia / heavy multitasking and a bit of gaming system.
If possible, i want Q6600 + 8800GT together OR 8800GT + 22" widescreen LCD monitor.

Sadly, putting Q6600 + 8800GT + 22" WS LCD will definitely break my budget.

It will be unlikely for my to keep updating my graphic card each time a new series appear, so if i go Dual-core (88GT + 22" LCD set), i want it to match my 88GT as perfect as possible (lesser bottleneck scenarios blah blah). For monitor, either 22" WS LCD with good refresh rate for gaming and multimedia or any plain vanilla 17" LCD.
I am currently using a 19" WS LCD, so i can stick with it and give my dad the new 17" LCD. I can forget about any newer 19" or 20" since it wouldn't make a difference.

As for hardisk and mobo, if possible, the lowest storage capacity for SATA III (use for system files only) with a SATA III compatible mobo. If possible, i want the mobo to come with integrated Video+Sound for emergency purposes. If it comes with Gigabit LAN, even better, lol.
And I doubt i'll need and use SLi. I won't need a independent soundcard at the moment.

i have quite a lot of hardisks already (80+160+200+250+320+500).

Forget about speakers, i'll find those myself.

And the suitable PSU (about 3-4 hardisks) to match my system and any decent casing.

Kinda in the rush and i am panicking. Suddenly dad told me that he is fed-up with him old computer (dunno whether its P3 or the first generation P4) and wants to take over my computer, hence getting me a newer one. I need to decide a set quickly as possible before he decides it for himself or worse, get the new PC for himself, lol.

Does Windows XP works well with a quad core ? More like, will Windows XP and the softwares installed on it use the quad core to its full potential ?
No point getting a Quad core with my version of Windows doesn't support it.

Photoshop (quite a lot of files at one go)
Mozilla Firefox (main tabs and addons)
Occasionally some HD videos
Music (.FLAC, .APE)

Basically i like to multitask a lot, but i prefer to stick to Windows XP.

New standard for viewing HD anime ?

What should be good for the age of anime in HD quality ?

I was trying to watch Iblard Jikan, which is encoded in h.264 with DTS audio in1920x1080 resolution. It lagged badly. Audio and video were off-synced by 20-25 seconds.
The video quality is very beautiful. Amazing work of art and beautiful music to boot.

So what should be good enough to decode and watch this video with perfect sync ?
I am currently using an AMD64 3200+, nVidia 8600GT and just 1GB RAM.
Is there something wrong with my PC or is it just too outdated ?

Unable to remove a keylogger

I scanned it with Spybot Search and Destroy. This few entries came up but unable to remove it (keylogger) because it is being in use or something.

My main concern would be the keylogger threat. I followed Spybot's instructions which led to a scan right after my Windows is being loaded (desktop not loaded at that moment) but a scan at that time, the keylogger file wasn't detected. After i exited the Spybot scan, my desktop was loaded and i ran the scan again. Keylogger file was found again and same procedure saying that the file is unable to be removed because being in use.

PureWGA was removed twice before but it came back as well.

Please advice, thanks.

I am unfamillar with HijackThis program, but if it is of any help, i ran a scan using that as well.

[SOLVED].... files of a networked computer

Two PCs, my AMD and my sister's Intel.

AMD, Windows XP Pro SP2 (Windows's Firewall ON) with all the latest updates, hooked to the router via a wireless USB adapter.
Intel, Windows XP Pro SP1 (Windows's Firewall OFF) without any updates at all, hooked directly with an Ethernet cable to the router.

Problem, i can view and use the files located in the Intel PC using my own AMD PC. However, this doesn't work the other way around.

I have no idea why, when i tried to acces my AMD PC using the Intel PC, it requests for a password. I didn't set any password at all. Why is there a password and what is the default password ?

I tried by disabling the Windows's Firewall on my AMD PC, but still the problem is there.

Some guidance please.

I just bought a 5 meters USB cable. I attached it to my desktop and my device but this error pops out. Any way to solve this ?

According to USB.org (http://www.usb.org/about/faq/ans5), it is still within the limit or maybe right on the dot.

Is there a driver which i need to install ? I can't seem to find any suitable driver for it.

Any help please ?
