Engineering Career Development

Dear sifus,

Feeling a bit lost at the moment with regards to how to further develop my career.

A brief background:

I graduated with a B.Eng in Chemical Engineering and am currently working in a multi-role position as a project engineer while supporting the sales department with system technical design & costing within the mechanical(HVAC/R) industry.

Among some of my tasks are:
1. Project system design of BMS for M&E equipment
2. Assist sales department with project costing including labour costing
3. Develop controller programming & optimization
4. Site commissioning of said system design

A self assessment, I would say that I would have a solid grasp in understanding the basic control mechanisms of HVAC equipments, generating I/O lists and from there, create control strategies for them using available BMS equipment. However, very specific details such as chiller loading/unloading strategies are still something that I have to improve my knowledge on.

I am looking for ways to develop my career more towards the HVAC industry with future plans on becoming a consultant. Another thing is that a pure sales role is something I am keenly opposed to.

I know that as it stands, my working experience is all over the place hence any inputs on courses advice/future job undertakings is greatly appreciated.
