Stray cat suddenly friendly

Good day,

I don't have pets actually, used to have an Arowana which died a few years back (at 21 years old )

There are a few stray cats around my house that we usually feed. They come and go, and sleep here if they feel like it. They are feral as far as I can ascertain.
About 2 weeks ago, the tabby we feed suddenly started becoming super friendly towards my wife. It still won't let her pet it, but it'll keep on rubbing against her legs (and mine occasionally) while CONSTANTLY meowing. We thought it was hungry, so we put out a bit of extra food. He wasn't interested. But meowing persisted. Usually for about 15 - 20 minutes before he gives up, and lies down.

It doesn't stay around the house the whole day.
I think it's about 2 - 3 years old.

It's behavior it very awkward, and both of us are a little concerned. Anything we should be aware of?

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

P/S: There's also another younger, smaller tabby that's very close to the tabby above. This little fella is hurt (open wound on the right rear leg) but it looks like it's healing very slowly. The little one is usually around the house a lot (maybe because it's hurt? I dunno). Both rub-heads very often, especially during feeding time but the little one is usually quite greedy

Change car vs. maintain old one

Year end is here, and a lot of offers going about. Most likely can get 0% down-payment with ease. Good interest rates for a few also. Don't forget free service and warranty for 5 years or more, depending on the badge. All-in-all, it's a good time to shop for cars I reckon

I own a 5-year-old car that's done more than 200K-KM & that'll break-even if I sell it (meaning I get nothing if it's sold @ market purchase value). It's a daily-driver, and so far the most I've spent on it is RM2000 for a worn clutch, and tires (about RM1400 each time, twice). So, for anyone who has owned a car for more than 5 years, you know what's coming. And for those who haven't, it will involve footing huge bills for belt replacements (when applicable), major services, A/C services, etc.

My current prospects involve having to spend RM300 - RM400 more per/month for repayments, for the next 9 years, for a new car - which is about 50% more than I'm paying now. I can afford this if I can compensate the sum back, so I'm thinking of offsetting the cost of repairs, services and maintenance (all that I would get free with a new car) for my current car and putting it in for repayments. This is how the calculations go:

Current car
Repayment: RM800
Services: RM300 every 4 months
Major repairs: RM5000 (MajorService: RM2000, suspension: RM1000, A/C: RM700, Body'nPaint: RM1000, misc: RM300)

Total for the next 2 years = RM 26600 ((RM800x24)+(RM300x6)+RM5000)
...or: 1108.33 per-month

New car:
Total for the next 2 years = 28800
...or: RM1200 per-month (repayments)

So, in the overall scheme of things, do you think it's a good idea to swap cars now? Or do you think I've missed something important in the estimations above? :/

*Note:
1) Wear&Tear are not part of the calculations - either way I'll end up spending on them anyway
2) I'm not into "resale value" - I think if you're going to spend a good amount of your life inside your car, you better like the car you're sitting in. Thinking of what it'll be worth 3 - 5 years down the road while dreading the car you're in isn't my cup-of-tea. Personal opinion, I guess

Flushing oil

Hi guys,

I just got word from one of the Shell stations which I used to purchase Shell's Flushing Oil from that Shell no longer sells the product. And I've not been able to find 'em anywhere else. So for the time being, I'll take his word on this.

Question here, does anyone know where I can get an alternative to Shell's flushing oil?

I'm not looking for those additives that you pour into your engine & drain out with old oil. I'm looking for cheap, low viscosity mineral oil.

Thanks in advance guys

Melting fuses

Hi guys,

I'm running both my headlights on an independent harness with 2 relays switching directly from the battery. There are 2 inline 30a blade fuses which connect to the low & high beam connectory, each switched by 1 x 5-lead relay. The harneses are easily available @ accessory shops & they are installed & grounded properly.
The problem I'm having now is that the fuses keep on melting due to the high amps the headlights pull. They don't blow but the plastic casting of the fuses keeps on melting... and so does the plastic fuse holder. The longest lasting one I used so far had a ceramic insert to hold the fuse but then the wire got ripped off the terminal end & I couldn't reconnect it I'm using Hella 90W/100W H4's
Has anyone got around this issue in any other way? Please share.

ThanX

Powder coating

Hi!

I'm just wondering if anyone here had sent their rims for powder-coating before?

I'm planning to get the set of rims I'm using now powder coated as the original paint job is quite botched (wonder if the previous owner had a go with a can of white spray )

Since powder coating is a much more durable & has a nice finish, I thought "Why not?"

So, anyone with the "why not" or otherwise, do share your thoughts, rants and most importantly, information on where it can be done.
TopGear Malaysia

Hi guys.

I'm not sure if this is even an appropriate topic for this section, but I guess this is the best place to get feedback on my dilemma.
I'm an avid TopGear Malaysia reader.
Last month, due to financial difficulties, I wasn't able to purchase the monthly issue. Thinking that the edition would be on sale until the 25th, I waited, only to find out (after scouring about 10 different outlets) that the magazine was nowhere to be found

So I need help here. Where do I go to get this edition? It's January's issue of TopGear Malaysia to be precise.

I'm very lost without this edition as I've been collecting it since it was in came into market

Thanks again friends

Flywheel size --> torque/"pick-up"

G'day mates

Alright, I've heard a lot of comments stating that having larger diameter flywheels can increase your torque or "pick-up". However, I have my doubts.

From what I understand, the flywheel an interface between the engine & gearbox. Both the flywheel & clutch mating transfers the power from the engine to the gearbox, moving the car forward/backwards/sideways ( ) .

Having a lightened flywheel will definitely increase your "pick-up" because there's a smaller mass to move, thus minimizing loss of power during engine-gearbox transfer.

But having a larger/wider flywheel?

Alright, just to be fair, if your engine is capable of pushing the clutch & flywheel to a point where they slip, then it's probable to have a larger contact surface between flywheel & clutch to allow for more grip. But for a mediocre engine, say a 4G13, would it REALLY make a difference if you upgrade your flywheel to a larger one? What's the logic behind that?

Please enlighten me as I think like a robot & currently, this modification does not compute

And, for the uber-"otai"s/experts out there, how prone is a clutch on a ...say... 4G13... to slippage.

Danke

G'day!

OK, just a quick question.

Can parts (head, pistons, etc.) from a 4G18 engine (Waja) be brought over to older engines, such as 4G15 & 4G13?
I was just wondering as parts between 4G15 & 4G13 are cross-compatible. Since a Waja's 4G18 is also within the 4G1X range, I just wanted to know if these parts can be mixed & matched.

The differences are obvious, but I'm asking nevertheless

Thanks guys!

Carburetor Cleaning

Hello to all Sifoos & Gurus!

I've always wondered how much effort it takes to actually dismantle a functional carb, clean it inside out, re-assemble it & re-tune it back to it's original settings.

Is the effort justified by the results? OR should we just go for the 'decarb' solutions available these days?
Is it even possible to do so by hand?
What kind of experties are needed to do this?
Do I need any special tools for this?

I'm quite sure there are some experts who have already been through this process several times over. I've seen guides for foreign models, but none so far for 4G1XP engines.

I sincerely hope that one of you guys can post a step-by-step pictorial guide on how to do so
There are some perfercionists out there who are eager to have a go at it

Besides, the experience should be fun... I hope

Thanks in advance for the help guys

Peace

Please refer to the link for a GOOD idea what I'm talking about

-> Illuminated Bulgin Switch

Well, I've just joined the bandwagon of wonderers.
How to remove the RamSinks?

Greetings to everyone, Sifoo's & Guru's alike.

I have a minor predicament.

Quite some time ago, I purchased an ancient gem, an Inno3D Tornado Geforce4 Ti4800SE (128MB).

Recently, when I actually found the time, I installed it & encountered some MAJOR overheating problems. Please refer to the link for more details.
Inno3D Tornado GeForce 4 TI 4800SE hang-up

Now, my actual reason for opening this thread is to get some clue as to HOW in the world I'm supposed to remove the stock aluminium ramsinks on the grapic card?
As most of you clokers out there realize, the most convenient (...or is it the ONLY?) way manufacturers attach ramsinks to graphic cards is via epoxy. Once on, it's on! FOR GOOD!

Therefore, I would like to gather some experience from the experienced-ones out there on the correct/best method of removing ramsinks off the VRAMs without pulling out the memory modules in the process.

I'm quite sure there are Sifoo's & Guru's out there who have done this before. PLEASE share you experiences for the enlightment of us lost-ones

Thanks in advance!!!
