Singapore jails man 15 months for pork‑filled

SINGAPORE, May 11 — A 62‑year‑old man was jailed for 15 months for sending pork slices to seven mosques together with the personal details of a woman he blamed for losing his job.

Tan Keng Hwee pleaded guilty to three charges of wounding religious feelings under the Maintenance of Religious Harmony Act and one harassment charge, with five other counts taken into consideration, according to a CNA report.

Prosecutors told the court that Tan “essentially weaponised religion to get the outcome he wanted,” while the judge later described his conduct as “a calculated, deeply offensive and inherently inflammatory act.”

Tan had worked as an operations support officer since December 2024.

He became upset after learning on September 11, 2025, that his contract would not be renewed.

He assumed that a woman at his workplace was responsible for the decision and devised a plan to retaliate against her.

He bought pork, envelopes and paper, and assembled packages containing offensive notes, the woman’s phone number and slices of pork.

He mailed the letters to seven mosques on September 15, 2025, choosing the locations at random.

Staff at the mosques discovered the pork when the envelopes arrived four days later and alerted the police.

One mosque employee also contacted the woman whose details were listed in the letter, and she subsequently lodged a police report.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Selene Yap sought 15 to 18 months’ jail and said offences involving religious relations “threaten the very fabric of our society.”

Defence counsel argued that Tan’s intention was not to attack the Muslim community but to target the woman he blamed for his employment situation.

District Judge Sharmila Sripathy‑Shanaz rejected that argument and said Tan had been prepared to wound “the religious feelings of an entire religious community” in pursuit of his vendetta.

She said Singapore’s social fabric depends on “the peaceful co‑existence of persons of different races and faiths,” and stressed that such harmony is “inherently fragile” and must be “vigilantly and jealously guarded.”

The judge added that the courts must respond “firmly and unequivocally” to conduct capable of inflaming religious tensions or threatening public peace.

Tan faced up to five years’ jail, a fine, or both for wounding religious feelings, and up to six months’ jail or a S$5,000 (RM15,469) fine for harassment.

link: Link

“The first song we recorded for this project was Taq ou-Dub. It’s an old Lebanese song, now performed by Nour Freteikh and in fact it was the starting point for the entire album, connecting Ramallah, Tel Aviv, Beirut and Oxford. Nour, such an incredible singer, first recorded her vocal track remotely but eventually the three of us got together in person to rehearse and perform – and connect properly.

Awantec Faces Trading Suspension From

KUALA LUMPUR (April 18): AwanBiru Technology Bhd (Awantec) said trading in its shares will be suspended from April 26, after the group failed to submit its regularisation plan to the regulators for approval within the stipulated timeframe.

In an exchange filing on Thursday, the software service provider said it was required to submit the regularisation plan to Bursa Malaysia Securities within the extended timeframe that ended on April 13.

Awantec said the group faces the risk of delisting if no appeal is submitted within five market days from the date of notification of delisting.

Awantec, previously known as Prestariang Bhd, had to submit a regularisation plan after being classified as an affected listed issuer in January 2021 due to the termination of its wholly owned unit Prestariang Systems Sdn Bhd’s membership in the Microsoft Partner Network.

On April 8 this year, Awantec said it had applied to the regulators for a waiver from the requirement to submit a regularisation plan, citing recent improvements in financial performance. It had also applied for an uplifting of its affected issuer status, the group said.

Awantec also requested a six-month extension until Oct 13 to submit the regularisation plan, in case the waiver and re-classification applications are not approved.

For the six-month period ended Dec 31, 2023, the group posted a net profit of RM1.19 million compared to a net loss of RM4.31 million a year earlier, as revenue increased 9.7% to RM28.63 million from RM26.1 million.

Awantec recently gained attention after winning RM231.55 million in its lawsuit against the government over the termination of the RM3.5 billion National Immigration Control System (SKIN) project in March, followed by an appeal in early April.

The group’s wholly owned unit Prestariang Skin Sdn Bhd (PSKIN) secured the SKIN project in August 2017 under the then prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak-led Barisan Nasional government, to replace the Malaysian Immigration System (myIMMs).

In December 2018, the then Pakatan Harapan government helmed by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad decided to scrap the project, in favour of a new system to save government funds. Despite several rounds of negotiations, both parties failed to reach a consensus on the quantum to be paid by Putrajaya, leading to PSKIN seeking recourse via the legal system.

Shares in Awantec closed unchanged at 32 sen on Thursday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM252.77 million.

Source: TheEdge - 19 Apr 2024

BBBBUUUU

Google App Detected as Trojan Virus

Some Huawei and HONOR smartphones have started flagging the Google app as a virus. Users across Reddit, Google Support, and various other forums, have started reporting the issue, and sharing screenshots.

Some Huawei & HONOR smartphones seem to be flagging the Google app as a virus
The phones are saying that the “app is infected”, and they label it as a “TrojanSMS-PA” virus. The prompt says that the app has the ability to send SMS messages without the user’s consent, and poses a risk related to that.

This is the full warning message: “This app was detected sending SMS privately, enticing users to pay with adult content, downloading/installing apps privately, or stealing private information, which may cause property damage and privacy leakage. We recommend uninstalling it immediately.”

Huawei smartphones Google app virus bug
Norton & Sophos did not flag it
Of course, users pushed the app through other antivirus apps, such as Norton and Sophos, and it was not flagged as a virus app. Huawei did not respond to this by the time we wrote this article, but it could soon.

Now, as many of you know, Google apps are not officially available for Huawei smartphones due to the US ban. There are ways to get them running, like through GSpace, but you can’t even sideload them in a normal way, as they won’t work without Google Services. You have to use an emulator such as GSpace.

The thing is, we’re not sure if this warning is popping up on devices that don’t have Google services, or those that do. Chances are it’s the first one, though, as HONOR is also mentioned, and this app seems to be installed directly on the phone.

This seems to be a bug
Now, it seems like Huawei software mixed up the Google app for a virus, it could be a bug or something of the sort. The Google app is most certainly not a trojan virus, so that has to be a mistake of some sort.

Huawei will likely address this soon. In the meantime, if you’re having the same issue, and can’t really install the app, there are ways to step around it. You can try removing the app and reinstalling it. Clearing the data from Huawei’s Phone Manager app also helped some users.

Updated on October 30, 2023:

Huawei reached out to explain what happened. Huawei says that the company’s virus detection and removal engine comes from Avast. Huawei says that due to some modifications in the Google app, the app triggered the virus tool by mistake, it seems. The company is working on removing the problem.

Updated on October 31, 2023:

Huawei offered additional explanation of the situation, and also steps on how to fix the problem. Find all the necessary information

https://www.androidheadlines.com/2023/10/hu...-app-virus.html
https://www.androidheadlines.com/2023/10/hu...fers-a-fix.html
Why IT Company Outsource to Vietnam

1. Cost savings
One of the primary advantages of outsourcing to Vietnam is the availability of skilled tech talent at low costs. The rates are significantly lower than hiring the same talent in the United States or other popular outsourcing destinations like China or the Philippines.

According to the CIO magazine, foreign companies could save almost 90% of costs by outsourcing software development to Vietnam. For example, the cost of hiring a senior developer in the United States is around $65-$130 per hour, while it costs only $20-$45 per hour to hire a Vietnamese developer.

Moreover, according to Outsource Vietnam (an outsourced agency), the cost of outsourcing software development to Vietnam is almost 1/3rd cheaper than India.

For this very reason, Vietnam was ranked 5th in the “best countries to outsource” globally by MarketInsider (2019.)

2. Young, educated population
According to Statista, Vietnam had a working population of approx. 74.3 million in 2020, with 40-45% under the age of 35. Vietnam is also amongst the top countries with the highest adult literacy rate (95.4%) in the Asia Pacific.

To keep its young population employable, the country has around 1900 vocational training centers.

Moreover, realizing the rising demand for software development outsourcing, the Vietnamese government has prioritized excellence in engineering and science.

Today, Vietnam offers technical training in different programming languages via more than 250 universities and 187 technical schools. As a result, Vietnam gets around 400,000 IT engineering graduates and 50,000 IT students from its institutions every year.

That means that the country is well equipped to meet the skilled workforce demands of employers who wish to outsource to this country.

3. Socioeconomic stability
Compared to several Southeast Asian nations, Vietnam is relatively more socio-politically stable. Vietnam was also ranked 12th as the safest country in the Asia Pacific region by the Global Peace Index 2020.

This means that foreign companies can expect to do business in this country without any threat of large conflicts or unrest.

Vietnam’s economy has also grown and flourished over the last 20 years. According to the World Bank, Vietnam is expected to recover from the pandemic and witness a GDP growth of 5.5% in 2022 from 2.6% in 2021.

4. Favorable investment environment
Vietnam’s new free trade agreements with the European Union and the United States, its robust IT infrastructure, improved logistics, cheaper labor costs, and a young working population have made this country a hotspot for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI.)

Vietnam has attracted a whopping USD 143 billion from foreign investors over the past 10 years (2010-2019). It was also ranked 70th among 190 countries in the Ease of Doing Business in 2020.

According to tradingeconomics, the influx of foreign investment continues to stay strong, with USD 2.68 billion injected into the economy in January-February, 2022 (a 7.2% increase from the previous year). Singapore remains the top source of FDI for Vietnam, followed by South Korea and China.

Furthermore, the Vietnamese government has introduced Resolution 55 to bring USD 50 billion into the country as foreign investment by 2030. The resolution aims to amend the regulations inhibiting foreign investments and codify quality, efficiency, and environmental protection criteria.

5. Presence of big IT companies
Several multinationals and tech giants already have a strong foothold in Vietnam by outsourcing their software product development, application development, and other IT support services. These companies include Intel, Microsoft, LG, and Samsung.

Other companies expanding and outsourcing their IT roles to Vietnam include IBM, Sony, Cisco, Bayer, etc.

These names are proof enough of Vietnam’s capability of handling big outsourced or offshore software development projects.

6. Pandemic resilience
While developed nations were grappling with the COVID pandemic, Vietnam was a star example of social resilience and technical fortitude.

Vietnam’s IT industry managed to stay afloat, and the country quickly overcame the crisis with quick thinking and robust contingency plans. In June 2021, Vietnam was also declared the largest country by population without any COVID deaths. Consequently, most IT professionals in Vietnam did not need to work from home anymore.

bye2 India
