Best thunderbolt hubs, any recommendations?

i'm looking for thunderbolt hubs, any recommendations?

im looking to connect external gpu, ultrawide monitor, standard monitor, 2 nas drives and speakers.

ive only come up with 3 options for this so far,

- OWC Thunderbolt dock or Thunderbolt 3 dock
- CalDigit TS3 Plus
- Dell Thunderbolt Dock – WD19TBS

but the TS3 plus is USD $55 in shipping which is madness as it doesnt include import duties yet.

so any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Home Studio Recommendation

Hi guys

I am looking to set up a simple studio in my home to shoot reviews. I am looking for your recommendations and advice on where & how to get started. The studio room has few windows and the view is mostly blocked by the lower level roof so i have little sunlight.

I am looking to do product reviews within the studio. From my research i have gathered you would need :-
For Medium/Cowboy shot
- lighting with softbox preferably 2
would i need to opt for the adjustable led bicolour ones? or would a adjustable singular colour one will do?
- tripod with fluidhead
as a tripod would be great but since shooting videos, it would be better to get one with a fluidhead so i can do smooth & stable video shots too.
- mic
would i need a shotgun mic attached to a boom pole for this or would the rode video micro suffice? im just having the camera across from me, separated by the coffee table which i will be doing the review on.
Overhead/Unboxing shot
so far i have found these two to be the most practical and adaptive rigs. Please do let me know what you think.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6YP7wLrXeM&t=353s
wouldn't normally work on a coffee table but i guess when the channel monetizes and i can afford a better desk to shoot at then okay.

the other is this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nxr4PcNXKQc

Please do let me know what you think and if you have any reccomendations of where i can get these items from.
I am looking to start up so i would like to keep costs low, setup simple and minimal. Easy to learn, use and store.
Thanks for the help

Gaming laptop that can double up for work purposes

link to desktop/hybrid build is below

https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry96618399

please read the link above to get the full idea of what i am trying to do

I game on my laptop now but its really frustrating to game with all settings set on low, and even then, it will lag a bit sometimes. When across from me, my SO games on Acer Predator Helios 500 with all settings on High and no lag at all.

I watched LTT’s youtube video and thought it would be a good idea to have a minimalist set up like this and decided to go for it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2VxwFEA8xM

So I sold my desktop and all it’s peripherals except the mouses for $2,000 and I’m contemplating on changing my laptop to a more gamer centric one. Albeit low-key gamer centric, enough to play League of Legends on high settings but design-wise, discrete enough that I could use it at the office.

I was initially looking at the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 but it does not come with Thunderbolt 3 port.

This video showed up, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v07whIRP9zw

I did find a local alternative but I’m not sure its worth it. https://store.illegear.com/onyx-series/207-...r-onyx-pro.html This came with the same specs as the Aorus 15G WB at $8,450. I'm not opting Razer because they dont have after sales service here and to source one here is hard, plus at most. local resellers are giving 6 months warranty which is not worth in. IMHO, for the same specs they are overpriced. pretty but overpriced.

So what do you guys think for a laptop?

My requirements are
- has thunderbolt 3 port
- <2.5kg, better if its lighter than that
- screen 14 inch but i can adopt 15.6 inch laptops
- GPU 2060 or 2070. considering the 2070 is now occupying the 2060 price range and 2060 occupying the 1660TI price range.

side note, i only play league of legends and not FPS so i think a 100hz screen should be good. am i right?

Need suggestions for clean set-up

Budget: $10,000 - $20,000
Games, programs, workloads that it will be used for:
League of legends, photo editing, media centre

Hey guys!
I’m looking for some suggestions into thinking if there is anything I can do improve the current set-up I had in mind for the long-term. It will be my last build as in a few years’ time I will have to settle into my big boy pants and become a responsible spender. I would like this build to last me through a long time as I’m looking to change the main component (laptop) as and when is needed.

That and because my SO sees having a desktop as a futile ‘have’ because I go often between her place and mine. My area has shit wi-fi coverage which means in game it lags, I can barely stream anything nor download anything unless I am willing to wait a couple of days for a movie. I only stay back in my place for my family. So most of the time, I am at hers and I game with her all the time on my laptop while I am at hers because the wifi is better and faster. So she sees this as a useless ‘have’.

Current set-up
Home desktop
· Case: Tecware VXR Black
· Fan: 3 x SquA-RGB 120mm
· Cooling: Enermax AIO 120
· CPU: Intel i5 6600
· RAM: 4 x 8GB 2666mhz
· Kingston HyperX Fury
· Motherboard: Gigabyte B150M
· GPU: Asus Nvidia GTX 960
· Storage: 500GB SSD
· Kingston HyperX Fury
· Wifi: Qualcomm Atheros AR922X
Peripherals
· Speaker: Logitech Z333
· Keyboard: Ducky One 2 - 104 keys
· Webcam: Logitech C525
· Monitor: Dell U2414H
· Mouse: Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed & Logitech MX Master 3

Laptop

Dell Latitude 7400
· I7-8665U Processor with Intel UHD 620
· 14 FHD (1920x1080), Non-touch
· 16GB RAM
· M.2 512GB PCIe NVMe Class 40 Solid State Drive
· 90W E5 Type-C Power Adapter
· 60 watt-hour, 4 cell, SMP battery MOD
· Wireless AX200 WLAN + Bluetooth 5.0 Driver

I got a laptop because my previous job needed me to work on the go, and my boss gave me some schtick about venturing out and doing a business together based on the work I did for him. Which was marketing consultation for other restaurants like his own. So I thought it would be a full time job and I would need a proper laptop for work and not some janky one, most companies provide to their employees. I didn’t work in MNCs so I would normally get janky ones, at least in the places I worked. I didn’t meet my SO then, and I didn’t game as much. That’s what I had my desktop for. My laptop was purely work related stuff. After meeting my SO, all of that changed like in the second paragraph above.

So what do you guys think for a laptop?

As for desktop, this is what I had in mind for the build.

Peripherals
· Monitor: Acer X34P - $3,400
· Audio: Audioengine HD3(wireless) - $2000 or Audioengine A2+ - $1,250
o I’m leaning towards wireless to make the build more hassle free and less visible of wires
· Keyboard: Logitech MX keyboard & palm rest - $770
· Storage: Orico Dual HDD enclosure (type c) & Toshiba 4TB HDD - $790
· Hub: CalDigit TS3 Plus - $ 1,200 or HyperDrive Gen 2 Usb C Hub - $390
o https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/hyperdri...ub/x/17810646#/
o I ordered the 12 hub but I’m guessing the 18 hub would have been a better option at $520
· GPU: RTX 3060 - $2,500
· GPU enclosure: Akitio Node Pro - $2,200
o I’m planning to get these later in the year when it comes out as I’m not flushed with money and with a decent GPU on the laptop, I’m guessing I can hold it off till then

The main thing I care about is portability for the laptop, but once I’m home, I can plug in the laptop and enjoy it all the more on wider screen with better visuals. And since my SO has taken up photography and videography, she could use it too.

Dell Inspiron or Thinkpad x390?

Hey there guys, i'm a laptop noob and i am seeking the advice of all the sifus around.
Recently my car got broken into and my laptop bag got stolen along with my laptop.

I am looking for a replacement laptop and i am currently working with a 2012 macbook pro 13 inch at work given by my work place. but i am looking to leave my current workplace and my next workplace insists on using my own personal computer. i dont mind because it is a consultation gig so it is easier for me to use my own personal device than the slow ones given by each company i consult for.

I was initially looking at the 2019 macbook pro 13 inch but the price left me flabbergasted. the reason i looked at macbook is because the macbook ive been using at work is almost 7 years old now, since 2012. it was slow to open things up but after changing the hdd to sdd, the speed is considerably faster and it felt brand new to me, at least.

hence after some research, i have concluded that macbook is way above my budget. but do you think there are other alternatives that could probably last as long? is that possible?

my needs for my laptop is simple; microsoft office uses and light adobe photoshop and illustrator uses to make quick changes on the fly. maybe some movie and netflix watching but that's about it. nothing to strenuous.

Ive concluded with two options.

Ideapad x390 and Dell Inspiron 13 7000

The price are RM 5318.64 and RM 4740.50.
Do bear in mind that lenovo prices has been discounted by the code and i am awaiting the updated price from my friend who works in dell, apparently they have a friends & family rate by referral.

The similarities that count to me is both have;
- 8th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-8565U Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.6 GHz)
- 16GB, onboard, DDR4, 2400MHz
- Intel® UHD Graphics with shared graphics memory

The differences that between both are that;
- Lenovo has 1TB Solid State Drive, M.2 2280, PCIe-NVMe, OPAL, TLC and Dell has 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive
- Lenovo has 13.3"FHD (1920x1080), IPS, Anti-Glare, 300nits and Dell has 13.3" FHD 1920 x 1080 Truelife LED Backlight Non-touch IPS Display Narrow Border
- Lenovo has 1 year warranty carry-in and Dell has 4Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty,InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis
- Lenovo has no security software and Dell has McAfee® Multi Device Security 15 month subscription

So guys, what do you think? any thoughts?

Looking for angel investors in retail business

Hi!

Im looking for investor that would be interested to invest in retail streetwear, consignment sneaker and its cleaning products/maintenence.

We currently operate by ourselves, but we are looking to supply to other shops as our product line increaases. To achieve this we need to increase our capital.

Pm me for more details, we could chat.

We need about RM 250k... ( 2 phase)

We only open 5 slots ( RM 50,000 minimum, 2 phases)

Phase one
1) finish research and developing new design
2) manufacturing and producing new products
3) pr, marketing and product launching in malaysia

Phase two
1) open up physical retail store
2) take part in more tradeshows, especially those located outside KL
3) distribute to other SEA countries

To make the offer more interesting:-

You invest RM 50,000 amount of cash

We will give you accrued 8% every year ( payment starts from 30% closing balance of 1st quarter of operations)

Should you no longer interested and would like to leave just give us 6 months notice, and we will return your ROI back. After the first year of operations.

Quote:-

". The sluggish economy in Malaysia is reducing consumer confidence, with demand for affordable entry level luxury brands in designer apparel and footwear increasing. Brands like Calvin Klein and Alfred Dunhill posted a stronger performance from studies conducted in designer apparel and footwear during the review period as they are perceived as affordable luxuries. Many other exclusive designer apparel and footwear brands like Chanel and Gucci are deemed to be more expensive, for only consumers with higher purchasing power. The retail fashion industry in Malaysia has increased revenue from US $114 million in 2016 to US $134 million in 2017 and is expected to rise to US $155 million for 2018. Retailing value sales continued to grow in Malaysia in 2017, driven by growth in both store-based and non-store based retailing.

So now is the best time to be part of the fast growing industry!

Minimum investment RM50,000 per person
Planning to start: 2nd quarter 2018
8% yearly ( 1st payment start after 1st quarter of operations, payment every year or month)

WHY you need to consider streetwear/sneaker/maintenende business ?

- High profit margin (up to 900% percent)
- We manage your investment
- No hidden risk, we will be upfront on everything
- Minimum risk
- Already got the attention from industry
- 8 -10% return
- The fashion industry is a fast growing and competitive industry, why? Because the only products that have higher margin are illegal
e.g: buy shoes retail for RM1,200, can re-sell for up to RM7,000
dont take resell, take normal sale.
zara for instance, tshirts cost is rm7 each, can sell for rm80-90 each
- Take an opportunity now to be part of a brand that will grow rapidly

Dear potential investors, please read all the above carefully before pm me and ask me to pm uguys.

Would like also to emphasize that its a startup. We are looking for those who would like to grow with us.

I'm not going to promise all those rainbows and fast wealth. Its an investment, there's always a risk. But given it’s retail industry, most capital is in products.

Those who would like to be a shareholder, coz we did get this question quite often... you can’t

Those who asked do we have a shop, currently we do not have a retail shop, everything is being done online but we plan to.

Those who asked whats our plan for growth:-

1) To supply to other retail shops within Malaysia.
2) To distribute within SEA countries, eventualy taking it further.
3) To have atleast 8 products instead of currently 2 at the moment
4) To have a retail shop at one of the high end area, proposed in phase 2, bangsar
5) Cater to the demands from the retailers that keep on asking us to stock our product

So for more info, please pm me directly. Thank you

F.A.Q:-

Why Malaysia? Why not Europe? Why not other countries?
After a year of R&D and market research, we concluded that Malaysia streetwear and high fashion scene is expanding exponentially, and products from Hong Kong, Europe and US are brought in to supply Malaysia’s demands for it. Our own supply is not enough for the industry’s demands. The resell market and price is considerably higher in Malaysia than most other competing countries.

Why invest in our company? Our brand?
Because we are trusted. Before us, other brands were selling similiar products to us at twice the price before we introduced ours. Now the market is almost gone with only our product left in it’s category. Customers in the industry realised how much they have been overcharged and joined us, giving us loyalty. Customer loyalty is not something that can be easily earned.
