Hello all,

I'm 23 this year (2021), considering to continue my Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics Engineering part-time.

WOU
Course offered:
- Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Electronics Any downside Electronics only as compared to Electrical & Electronics?
- Bachelor of Technology (Honours) in Mechatronics

Class schedule: Weekend

Fees & Duration: ~35K if not mistaken, any senpai to input on part-time fees and duration?

KDU
Course offered:
- Bachelor of Science (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Bachelor of Science (Hons) Mechatronics Engineering

Class schedule: Weekday night

Fees & Duration: ~65K for 3Y full-time program, any senpai to input on part-time fees and duration?

Background:
- I completed my Mechatronics Diploma in KDU in Dec 2018 with CGPA 3.95 under scholarship.
- Due to unpredicted financial downfall of family, stopped study and strayed off to other lower-entry field (Health & Fitness) but independent contracting part time in Engineering (PCB Design & Dev, PLC Programming)
- Since 2020, went back into Engineering as a project-based contractor but full-time hours in Test Development (FCT) in MNC, love love love this job, lots of hands-on, work environment is a mix of lab and office work.
- Currently contracting in RF Test in another bigger MNC, sipek good work life balance (too good for a workaholic like me), enjoying the RF stuff but not finding the role technical enough (not much hands on & more time spent on "process"/"social"), considering to accept a permanent job offer in Test Design/Design from previous company.

Other/Question/Help Needed on Education:
- What is the difference between Bachelor of Science vs Bachelor of Technology? How does it affect my career?
I hope to dabble in more technical side of Engineering in my earlier years, and eventually venture into management roles around 30.
- Career prospect/path of EE graduates VS Mechatronics graduates
- Need scholarships/loan to ease financial stress, mum is BR1M recipient, dad is in heaven.
WOU will stand out in this due to more affordable pricing.
Any scholarship that I can apply for aside from the provided one my WOU/KDU?
- I'm self-learning oriented individual, but need lots of practicality/hands-on for most effective learning.
KDU will stand out in this due to frequent class/lab as compared to WOU.

Other/Question/Help Needed on Career:
Based on my background...
- Should I stay in current company while pursuing my degree and transition to technical roles in the future?
(Financially it would be HARDDDD as I need to rent, but I'm willing to make lots of sacrifice for this if it's better in the long run)
- Or should I go back to previous company with more interesting role, better financial compensation, but smaller in size? (Workplace at my hometown)

Would appreciate if any engineers in the field and part-time student/graduate from WOU/KDU will give me some words of advice...

TL;DR:
- Please share experience as a part-time Engineering student/graduate in WOU/KDU Penang.
- (Contract in bigger MNC + good wl balance + less technical work) VS (Permanent in moderate MNC + very technical work) while I pursue PT degree?

Field of engineering

I am going to college soon, decided to take up a diploma course in engineering. For my choice of college, it offers either Mechatronics or Microelectronics.

I asked the consultant and she said that I should go for Microelectronics if I want to pursue E&E in the future, and Mechatronics for Mechanical Engineering.

Passion wise, I am extremely interested in Physics, Programming stuff and also Robotics. I kind of have this idea implanted in my mind - one should be "good" in art and design if he or she wants to pursue Mechanical Engineering. Am I right or wrong?

I asked for opinion from seniors and they suggested me to go for Mechatronics since I love Robotics. I was so convinced that I will be taking up E&E course for my degree since years ago, and if I go for Mechatronics I will have to pursue in Mechanical Engineering during my degree, which I haven't really get to understand its details yet.

Another thing that I'm concerned about is that the college I'm going to is very famous with their VLSI facilities, which will only be used by microelectronics (E&E) students.

I need some advice on which course should I pursue, please

Should I accept the scholarship?

I had received Taylor's Scholarship using my mid-term results. They offered me 100% tuition fee waiver (which means I still have to pay for the miscellaneous fee). The offer is for January intake (Jan 2016)

But to secure this scholarship I have to obtain a minimum of 7A+ in SPM actual result and pass up the registration fee of RM650 before 31 October 2015 (a few days later).

I come from a very poor background, it's impossible for my family to afford my study if I don't get a scholarship.

I think I'm pretty lucky as not much students get 100%, and it's not that one can pass an interview successfully every time.

I am also quite worry about my degree study, they say I have to apply for the financial aid there if I can't afford the fees (Of course I can't), and I have two chances to apply for the financial aid (requires interview) , first is using my SPM actual result, if I din't get then I have to apply again using my Foundation results.

Do you think I should accept the offer? Or should I wait until the announcement of actual SPM result first, then apply for other scholarship? Is obtaining 7A+ difficult?
