Fall of the continental cars

Many years ago, I posted a thread with almost similar heading, except the word "Fall". It was "Rise" that time.

We have seen that people have started to shy away from conti brand, thanks to many comments like 'drives for 3 days, keep in workshop for 3 months', 'spare parts need 6 months to arrive', 'my car just stalled at roadside!', 'gearbox problem again....' & 'temperature rise'.

I wondered why continental cars are not reliable at all (is this statement true?) when these brands are superb at other countries, e.g. Volvo, Peugeot, VW, Ford, Land Rover, etc...

We hardly see these cars on the road nowadays, let alone seeing a brand new one!

Let's discuss folks.

Hi forumers,

I have been using my Acer laptop with 2 monitors connected to it (HP & Samsung brand).

The HP monitor is connected via VGA and the Samsung via HDMI (with an adapter). HP is the main, Samsung as extended.

However, suddenly since last week the laptop could not detect the Samsung. It displayed for awhile (after I plugged in the HDMI cable) and then lost connection. The laptop showed not second monitor was detected.

Need help here.

Thanks.

Using different tyre size

Hi Tyre Sifus,

I intend to use a different size from my stock tyre 225/55/17. Diameter=26.7"

My choices are:

215/60/17. Diameter=27.1"
225/60/17. Diameter=27.7"

The question is; what is the min & max Diameter I can go without compromising the speed reading (speedometer reading), FC and safety?

Thanks.
Airbags, airbags & airbags

Hi forumers,

Everytime a new car is launched, the very first thing everyone will ask will be..... "How many airbags does this car has?", "Got knee airbag ar?", "Side airbags leh?". Many people listed airbags as the first priority when purchasing a car.

No one on Earth would hope to use them, but when we really need them, do these 'fluffy' stuff really effective in saving our souls?

I noticed in many accidents (I meant severe accidents), despite they inflated, they did not much in saving the lives of the car occupants. So, several questions crossed into my mind:

1) In what condition does airbag really helpful? Max collision speed, angle of collision. Many times it was not a head-to-head collision, so are airbags still useful?
2) If airbags do not help in high speed collision, then what are they for? Low speed collision usually does not result in casualties though....
3) Roll over, impact from top or below, rear bang are examples when airbags are not much of help.
4) Are there statistics that show how many lives are saved from airbags?
5) Any true-to-life airbags 'users' here?

Please share your views.

Defining car's segment

Hi forumers,

I wonder how and who categorize a car model into its segment; B, C, D, Sedan, SUV, Compact, etc.

For example why the HRV and ASX are categorized as Crossover (which bear cheaper road tax) but the Subaru XV as an SUV (higher road tax) when these cars seem to have similar design and built.

Thanks.

Why not all car models are made available?

Hi Forumers,

This is more like a general questions about the car market scenario worldwide.

Take for instance Ford, why Ecosport is not available in US whereas Edge and Explorer are not found in the Malaysian market?

And I got to know Fortuner is not available in Japan?

Also, even if the models are available, why do they want to change the name? Again, Kuga vs Escape...

So does other brand...
Longest distance

Watching a recent reality TV show made me think of a question:

How far have you driven before?

I am talking on real driving (without other aid of transportation such as ship, ferry, airplane). A quick check on Google Map showed that Kuala Lumpur is connected by this big mass of land up to Lisbon to the West or Cape Town to the Southwest. So in theory (correct me if I am wrong) we can actually drive (with an international driving license) to these places from Malaysia.

Does this sound logic to you guys? Please share your view, experience and opinion here!:)

Highway as testing track?

Dear forumers,

Was travelling along the North-South Highway last weekend when suddenly a group (at least 15 cars) of GTR-Skyline drivers overtaking other cars on the highway like crazy. These divers did not give a damn to others and the way they drove were totally dangerous especially to least 'steady' drivers.

What even further shocked me was there was even a 'safety car' (a Mercedes) with them!

What I wanted to say here is how can this group of drivers be allowed to test/review/show-off/whatever on a public highway? They should have done it on a proper and safe track like Sepang Circuit.
