Why it's getting difficult to open a bank account.

Early disclaimer: This is just my own opinions and experiences. I already check & read every FAQ & TnC before doing said actions. Also it's a rant.

I first notice this when me and my friend tried to open a savings account at our hometown branch. The requirements only said bring an IC because we just want a basic Savings Account for savings (We already have a savings account but want another one for "real" savings). But then all of the sudden we were asked for parental consent letter, payslips, employment letter. Basically every known letter they could think off. Me and my friend were already at our 20s and already have jobs . We were so annoyed we just went home and said we'll try another bank next time. Ironic after that I'd successfully open a savings account from the same bank at one of their kiosk at a big store even though I failed when I went to their branch.

Then my friend alone tried to open a savings account at a different bank but this one has a much more ridiculous requirement. A freaking bank statement because my friend already have an account at a different bank. When my friend told me about it, I was just shock. That's just ridiculous.

After that I found out that some of the banks here you can apply for a banking account online. So I tried and it worked. I went and successfully activate it and get my card. The branch manager was nice too. She explained she actually wanted to interview me (?) why I wanted to open an account. But because I registered the account online she just asked simple questions and let me be on my way.

After that I'd tried again. This time for a different bank. After filled out the online forms and completed the account request (which was a current account), I both get a confirmation & a text message saying to activate the account at my designated branch. It said to only bring an IC (again). I went but since it was Friday, the branch was busy. So I'd try another branch (even though I know it won't worked) and guess what happens. The same freaking request. I now also needed an employee consent letter. Even though from the website itself said only bring an IC. If I known that earlier, why would I waste my time filling that online form. Also, the bank officers at the branch didn't even know what to do when I said about the online account (which why treating it like I'm opening it at the branch). The funny thing is at my original designated branch, a mid 40-50 guy was also try to open an account. But I didn't see them making ridiculous requirements at him. Lol

So that brings me to questions, why is it so hard to open an account now. Its just a basic savings account. Not an FD or investment account. Also why are there different requirements at branches. Some even doesn't make sense. If they wanted to use the excuses like filtering scam, money laundering, terrorism funding what stopping the bad guys to just forging the necessary documents. Heck they'll even just use a legitimate front. It won't stop or even deter them. Basically like games & movies DRM. Useless and just alienate the legitimate customers.

Also maybe it's just me but older customer seem to get leeway on the requirements. I'm fine with that but for us younger costumer getting stupid requirements it really pissed me off.

I know banks reserved the rights to not do business with us but come on. Usually it's just the bank officers doing the harm.

Celcom Late Night Internet outage

Yesterday I bought the Late Night Internet (Daily RM1) from Celcom. TQ message receive but no quota (Only get the expiration date for the Late Night Internet). I thought I used it all since I was surfing Instagram so I bought another one (big mistake). TQ message but still no quota (Only the expiration date again). I called customer support and they say their services is problematic for a while and to constantly check if I've receive my quota (It didn't). When I wake up and notice it, I really fell like I want to lodge a complaint but hold for a while to check if tomorrow midnight the quota came thru. It did but the WTF moment is that it's now magically disappeared AFTER I bought another one to extend it (really stupid decision). So... dafuq?

Is anyone experience this?
