My Phone Number: unknown

I'm using a Nexus One with stock froyo.

Last week, my old sim just died on me, so I had it replaced at a maxis centre for RM 10.

When I was using my old sim card, my phone number displayed just fine in About phone > Status, however after replacing the sim card, it now displays as Unknown.

I have an old Sony Ericsson K800i and I tried to edit the phone number by going to menu-->contact-->more-->options-->special numbers-->my numbers-->my mobile, but the "Edit" option wasn't displayed. (Maxis probably locked the sim card or something?)

What can I do now to fix this issue? Without the phone number displayed, my messaging app isn't displaying my picture properly. If I were to call Maxis, what should I say to them?

Warm LCD Inverter

Hi guys,

I have an ASUS G71 laptop, and the area beside the ASUS logo on the plastic bezel is where the LCD inverter is located at.

Is it normal for the LCD inverter's area to feel warm/hot? How hot does it usually get on other laptops?

[WTA] PC for graphics editing and a huge monitor

Budget: RM 2k+ (computer + monitor)

Primary purposes :
1. Photoshop
2. World of Warcraft
3. Watching movies (720p / 1080p HD if possible)
4. Downloading and surfing the net

Preferences :
1. I want a huge monitor. The hugest possible monitor that is within the stated budget.
2. I also want the best possible graphics card that's within the budget.
3. I'm willing to sacrifice other components for a better monitor and graphics card. Monitor size will be the first priority, graphics card second.
4. I would also like to setup two monitors, how do I get around doing this? I currently have a 19" LCD display, and I'm planning to use it along with the new display that I am going to purchase. Are there anything that I have to buy in order to make dual monitors display possible?

P/S : Where do you guys get price lists of computer components online?

Frequent power trips during lightning

Anyone knows why my power trips even at the slightest lightning strike?

During one normal thunderstorm, it can trip for up to 5-10 times. My neighbour's power doesn't get tripped, while mine does.

Anyone can troubleshoot what component in the electrical system is faulty? It's very annoying when it trips when I'm doing something important on the computer. I want to fix this frequent tripping problem, I don't want to buy a UPS.

Thanks.

Dog catchers

Hello there.

My pet dog was caught by the dog catchers working under the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council this morning while I was away and it wandered outside my house.

I have given a call to the person in charge of the dog catching team and he said that all dogs were immediately killed using poison and buried at a nearby dumpsite.

My question is, are they doing it according to the correct procedures? I've read from the SPCA site that the dogs can only be killed after 24 hours. I'm still calling up the municipal council regarding this issue, and whether my dog has actually been killed, or has it been re-sold by that despicable dog catcher.

I have the dog catcher's name and his handphone number.

Please advise.

Edit: my pet dog has a licence

hi, i experienced an upgrade on my streamyx upto about 1.5 Mbps, as tested at TMnet speedometer.

however about 3 weeks ago, my speed was only about 380kbps (TMnet speedometer)!

I checked my ADSL status and it showed only 512/256 (first picture)! Previously, it was 2048/512.

A friend of my who lives near my house still has 2048/512! (2nd picture)

What do you think is the problem?

I tried to email TMnet and received a phone call around last week and they said they reset the port of something and asked me to try it 30 minutes after the call. nothing changed. i called their support hotline and all they told me was to wait as they have reopened the case.

Help me! What do you think is the problem??
