For people to post their experience with the various brands of inverters.

I installed a Hitachi split unit 10,000 BTU inverter model RAC-X10CZ in July 2011. The first years it worked well, and is whisper quiet compared to a non-inverter. Then problems slowly started to appear after 2 years.

It was not cooling enough. Hitachi service contractor says to clean it, which I did but with no improvement. I struggled with it 3rd and 4th year, calling for service and getting charged RM60 everytime. The standard response is "when did you clean it" and "inverters are very sensitive to dirty cooling coil". Each cleaning is RM150. Then they would tweak the refrigerant pressure, saying it is too high and cause the compressor to cut out.

I believe the compressor controller board was shot as I could hear the compressor whining and cutting in and out. It could not achieve 28C on a hot day. I asked for replacement of the bad component under warranty, but they claim it is not a failure and can be tweaked by adjusting refrigerant pressure, then charging RM60 for every visit.

I finally replaced it with a non-inverter in Sept 2015. BTW I am based in Kuching, maybe you can have better aftersales experience elsewhere. I would not touch another inverter, not esp. Hitachi brands with the kind of aftersale service here.
