AP abolished for food in 2022

ONLY four specific types of agro-food commodities are no longer subject to approved permit (AP) or import quota approvals and import permits (IP).

The Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (Mafi) said this includes round cabbage, old coconut seeds, chicken (chicken cuttings and round chicken) and milk.

It added that however, the AP for the import of rice is still in force.

According to Mafi, the decision to abolish the AP was decided by the Cabinet as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday.

So, has the prices of food (eg. Milk ) fall after the abolishment of AP ? if yes, how much cheaper is it now compared to before ?

https://themalaysianreserve.com/2022/05/19/...ubjected-to-ap/

Bosch opens new Facility in Batu Kawan, Penang

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 1): Bosch has officially opened one of Asia's "most advanced semiconductor back-end sites" in Penang for the final testing of its automotive chips and sensors.

In a statement on Tuesday (Aug 1), InvestPenang said the supplier of technology and services intends to invest around €350 million (RM1.62 billion) in the site.

It said with the opening, the company continues to systematically reinforce its semiconductor business and manufacturing footprint to meet global chip demand.

Klaus Maeder, Bosch's mobility sector board member responsible for operations, said semiconductors are key to the success of all of Bosch’s business areas.

“The Penang back-end site is a key component in our growth strategy in the mobility sector, as we respond to the increased demand for semiconductors.

“We chose to invest in Penang for its high level of semiconductor knowledge and skilled workforce. The proximity to business partners and customers is another advantage, as it will shorten delivery times and distances for the chips,” said Maeder.

InvestPenang said with a land area of 100,000 square metres, the facility in Penang is the first of its kind for Bosch in Southeast Asia.

It will primarily focus on the final testing of chips manufactured at Bosch’s fab in Dresden, Germany.

The new Penang facility is expected to employ up to 400 associates by mid-2030.

https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/676895

Bye Singapore, hello Malaysia

While there is no official data on the number of foreign workers leaving Singapore, multinational firms are increasingly looking to move staff out of the city to cut costs, according to recruitment agencies.

There has been a “strong appetite” to relocate staff from Singapore to neighbouring Malaysia due to its location, English-speaking population, lower cost of living and strong presence of back-end office functions, Nic Chambers, the managing director of Michael Page Malaysia, told Al Jazeera.

“Singapore still has a really important role to play. CFOs and CEOS of listed companies will still want to remain in Singapore because of its proximity to investors, private equity firms and venture capital firms. However, I fully expect over time, we will start to see even some of those C suite roles moving into Malaysia,” Chambers said.

https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2023/6/5/...alaysia-vietnam
Goods new for Penang, Malaysia!

GlobalFoundries will open a new center of excellence in Penang — one of the biggest revelations from SEMICON Southeast Asia. The multinational semiconductor contract manufacturing and design company already has a fab in Singapore which opened in 2022. The center in Malaysia is expected to be a hub that will oversee GlobalFoundries’s global operations.

Speaking exclusively to Tech Wire Asia, KC Ang, chief manufacturing officer at GlobalFoundries, said the office in Penang will be a step towards the company goal of using all global resources.
“Penang will be one of our global hubs that we are setting up. And to make the hubs work, AI, machine learning, and automation will become a critical success factor. We want to use Penang as a global hub and monitor worldwide manufacturing across Singapore, Germany, and New York. There will be a virtual fabric with a manufacturing control tower, where we can do remote access to the activity on the production floor,” commented Ang.

Ang also mentioned that in co-corporation with Invest Penang, they had located a space in the Bayan Lepas area. The company is currently setting up the office, which is expected to be ready in the middle of September. He added that GlobalFoundries is also recruiting employees, with around 20 trained in the Singapore fab.

https://techwireasia.com/2023/05/penang-to-...lobalfoundries/

POCO F4 fast charger 67W

Hi, just want to check. I bought a POCO F4 from POCO official global store and the 67W fast charger included in the box is an European 2 pin plug. So I had to buy an universal adapter to change it to UK 3 pin plug in order to use the fast charger. My question is, by connecting the fast charger to the universal adapter, will my phone still be able to fully utilise the fast charging 67W charger? does it reduce the charging speed or in anyway affect the charging speed?

So far I have gotten 2 answer.

1) My engineer friend who said it won't affect the charging speed as it is just to change it to 3 pin plug.
2) POCO customer service said it will affect the charging speed as we need to plug in directly the fast charger to the wall socket in order to fully utilise the fast charging.

Any sifu know about this? Thanks in advance.

New Vios 2023

Why do people keep on saying the new Vios (especially the G spec) is expensive and Honda City V sensing is a better buy?

The new Vios G specs is only RM 96,000 while the Honda City V sensing is RM 94,600. The difference is only RM 1,400. By paying additional RM 1,400, you get the below features not found in Honda City.
1) 17 inch rims
2) Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Brake Hold
3) Wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto (City only comes with wired connection)
4) 3D 360 camera (this is a 3D 360 camera which is much better than the one found on X50 2D 360 camera)
5) Blind Spot Monitoring
6) Rear Cross Traffic Alert
7) Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go
8) Rear Disc Brakes
9) 64 colour ambient lighting
10) Dark Brown Interior
11) Vehicle Telematics System ( free 3 year subscription)
12) Free front dash cam

You get 12 additional function/ features just by paying additional Rm 1,400 so Vios G spec is actually more value for money than City V sensing.

They removed the less than 1,500cc and the between 1,500 to 1,799 cc category for passenger cars and replaced it with the less than 1,800 cc category. So effectively, excise duty for those less than 1,800 cc cars have increased! No wonder all the newly launched cars since 2019 has increased in price!
