Atomy hemohim - a liver damage threat

Hemohim a liver damage threat, says health department

2021-11-02 HKT 01:14
Share this story facebook twitter
Four women, aged between 42 and 72, suffered acute liver damage after taking the product.

Photo: Courtesy of the Department of Health

The Department of Health on Monday warned the public not to take an oral product called Hemohim, saying it can cause liver damage.

The department said the Hospital Authority had notified it on Friday of suspected poisoning cases, involving acute liver injury, in four women, aged between 42 and 72.

All had reported tea-coloured urine, jaundice, and vomiting between April and September. They were admitted to hospital and have since been discharged.

The women said they had taken Hemohim, thinking it would improve their health, with consumption ranging between about two weeks and six months.

The department collected two samples from the patients and the Government Laboratory on Monday confirmed the presence of methoxsalen in all samples collected.

A Department of Health spokesman said methoxsalen was considered a probable cause of liver injury. Other common side effects include nausea, headache, dizziness, fatigue, depression and skin reaction to sunlight.

Methoxsalen - derived from the plant Ammi Majus, known commonly as Bishop's Weed or Queen Anne's lace - is a substance listed under the pharmacy and poison regulations. It can be used to treat diseases such as psoriasis and vitiligo.

The department said it was investigating the source of the product and would take enforcement action when necessary.

English source

Chinese source

Cronies opened medical school. Now problems..

You caused doctor glut, so don’t abandon them now, Putrajaya told
K. Parkaran -July 15, 2021 10:28 AM
1000
Shares
facebook sharing buttontwitter sharing buttonwhatsapp sharing buttonemail sharing button

PETALING JAYA: Parti Sosialis Malaysia chief Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj has told the government to take the blame for what he calls the “messy situation” that has resulted from its decision 20 years ago to start licensing “one medical school too many”.

He said regulatory agencies approved the colleges without looking into actual needs and the infrastructure available.

As a result, he said, the number of graduates spiralled out of control and contract doctors now accounted for 45% of the total number of doctors in public hospitals.

There are about 71,000 doctors in Malaysia. About 51,000 of them are in government service and 23,000 of these are contract doctors. There are 31 medical schools, 11 of them government colleges.

Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj.
“Together with foreign graduates returning annually, we have about 5,000 to 6,000 seeking places for housemanship,” Jeyakumar said.

He told FMT approvals for medical colleges were given without looking into the number of training hospitals or whether the government could absorb all graduates into service permanently.

Many of the private institutions, he said, had former senior government servants helming them, and he alleged that they used their personal links to get the quotas they wanted since more students meant higher profits.

“The fees range from RM300,000 to RM700,000 for a five-year course.”

Jeyakumar said the government, in licensing medical schools and making places available to nearly everyone wanting to study medicine, gave students and parents the confidence that doctors were in need.

“And now, the first batch of contract doctors, about 2,500, are reaching their five-year term. After that, more contract doctors will be joining yearly.

“This really is a big mess created by the government itself,” he said, adding that it would be wrong to abandon them now.

He suggested, as an immediate measure to break the current impasse, that their contracts be extended by another five years and that they be allowed to sign up for specialist courses with public medical schools.

“At the same time, the government should cut the intake of new medical students in public universities by 10%. As for private colleges, it should be reduced by 70%. After all, the private colleges have already made their money.”

Jeyakumar proposed the long-term measure of building an additional general hospital in every major town since this would create vacancies for doctors and also para-medical personnel, who are facing problems obtaining jobs they were trained for.

“We need more doctors at outpatient clinics as the waiting periods are long, with doctors seeing too many patients,” he said.

“How can they do justice to so many patients? So we need more doctors and more posts must be created.”

source

This consider Lazada scam or the seller scam?

Yesterday 1010 Lazada did a promo deal 'Electronic madness RM0.10 deals' and sell some items at RM0.10 at a certain time. It was limited to certain units only. I managed to buy the Mi band 3 at 12pm sharp yesterday. It was limited to 5 units only and sold out within a few seconds. But then I received a notification today saying that this order has been cancelled and refunded. So, is this promotion a scam by Lazada itself or the seller scam Lazada?

[attachmentid=10331220]

Are we heading to what happened in Japan before?

Do you think we are heading the same direction as what happened in Japan before?

Sharing Japanese experience
LETTERS
Friday, 25 May 2018

I AM a Japanese novelist who has published more than 50 books in various countries. I have lived in Malaysia for three and a half years and I am so impressed with the outcome of the 14th General Election and what Malaysians have achieved.

The coalition ruled the country for decades. No one expected it to be defeated. When people first saw the stunning result, almost everyone was at a loss for a while. Then they realised it was the beginning of a new era. I am not writing about Malaysia. I am writing about my own country.

ADVERTISEMENT

Congratulations, Malaysians! You have finally decided to change your government. You have shown your ability as a mature democratic nation by making this decision.

When I saw Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad declare Pakatan Harapan’s victory on TV at midnight, I was deeply touched. To be honest, I had a little pain in my heart. At that movement, I thought about my country. As a person who has experienced a similar situation, I would like to share what I saw and felt back then even though it is somewhat bitter for me.

When I was young, it seemed the LDP would reign forever but then DPJ won the election with a super majority. I believed my country had finally got a two-party system and that DPJ would introduce some measures which LDP had ignored for a long time, such as an effective child allowance system and open immigration policy. Not only I but also all the people hoped that those measures would spur Japan’s sluggish economy.

Sadly speaking, this was a delusion. What we saw after the election were endless internal fights within DPJ. Our elected representatives immediately engaged in internal fights again and again.

The first prime minister from DPJ resigned a year after his inauguration. The second prime minister also left his office a year after his appointment. The third lasted only for a year. We had three prime ministers in three years!

What was worse was that DPJ decided to increase the consumption tax rate from 5% to 10% even though retaining the current rate was one of the most important promises they made in the campaign.

Many Japanese people felt betrayed and as a result, DPJ lost terribly in the next general election. DPJ doesn’t even exist now. The party dissolved like sugar in water, and so did our hope for a brighter future, the two-party system and a more democratic policy process. Policies that once shone brightly were miserably dumped and drenched in muddy water and the Japanese people lost interest in politics.

LDP is back on the stage now and it looks set to reign forever again. I feel like my country would never change the government even if the ruling coalition is extremely corrupt. So, I am jealous of you, Malaysians. You have got a right to build a modern democratic nation.

Be patient, Malaysians. Don’t make the mistakes my country did. It will take a while to see your government work well as you are now in uncharted waters. I hope your politicians will maintain order and cohesion and help each other to serve the rakyat. If they start internal fights due to selfishness like the politicians in my country did, you should stand up and tell them that unity is crucial to building a better future.

Freedom, democracy and transparency are not given naturally, these are cultivated by all the rakyat. Your beautiful country taught me about the importance of unity when I first came here.

TSUMUGU HASHIMOTO

Kuala Lumpur

Sharing Japanese Experience

Stupid artiste like to promote supplement

I've seen so many local artiste and the so called influencers will promote health supplement in fb and Instagram. I heard each post they will get from hundreds to thousands depending on popularity. The problem is, the product they are promoting is not registered in Malaysia. I believe they never really take it. Just hold the bottle and take a few photos. Easy money for sure but they should know it is a illegal product. This is especially serious in Chinese market with many supplement from Taiwan, Japan and China... Sigh... Really no brainier artiste.....

Example...
[attachmentid=9582746]
[attachmentid=9582747]
[attachmentid=9582748]
