Water Tank in High Rise Unit

I'm wondering how common is it to install water tank in a condo's individual unit.

My condo has occasional unplanned water cuts due to main tank/piping/pump issues.

The idea is to install a water tank somewhere inside my unit (like those in landed houses), at least there will be water for emergency purposes.

Is this something feasible to install in condos? I should have yard space for a 250 or 500 litre one, or perhaps a rectangular one above the bathroom false ceiling.

Black screen during boot-up

Hi,

During boot-up, I encountered a black screen instead of the Windows 7 login screen (black screen appears after Windows logo has loaded).

My Windows 7 installation is barely over a week old. The system was running perfectly prior to this, and I did not install any new hardware since installing Windows. I installed Evernote and Spotify right before this problem occured (I remember turning off Spotify's "load on Windows startup" feature). However, both these apps were removed during System Restore.

I've tried the following troubleshooting steps which did not help:
- Running Windows recovery
- Running System Restore
- Cleaning the registry
- Resetting BIOS to default
- Scanning for malware and viruses

Now here comes the weird part; I managed to circumvent this problem by using a different hardware configuration from when I last shut down. For example, unplugging a HDD or turning off a monitor. If I do this, Windows would boot without a hitch. However, I would need to change the configuration again for my next session. Note that this is not due to faulty hardware because it works no matter which part I unplug, and also works when I plug everything back in (still counts as a configuration change).
I have 2 monitors. If I shutdown with both turned on, during the next session, Windows would load successfully if I keep 1 monitor turned-off.

Another thing to note is that the problem does not occur if I restart the system from Windows (Start Button > Restart). The problem also does not occur If I shut down normally, and immediately start it up again. In summary, the problem comes only after the PC has been shut down for a while.

I'm wondering if there's any area in Windows that links hardware configuration with system start-up, or has anyone encountered such symptoms before. I really hope I don't have to reinstall Windows. Tried Googling, but could not pinpoint anything related to this problem.

Really appreciate the help.

TLDR: Windows logo loading complete > No Windows Login screen > Black screen appears instead > Randomly switch hardware configuration > Windows loads successfully

System specs (all running at stock speed and voltage) -
Phenom II X6 1055T
Gigabyte GA-8980GPA-UD3H
4 x 4GB (value ram)
HD5770 + HD5750 (Xfire)
240GB SSD
3 X 1TB HDD (non-RAID)
600w PSU
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit SP1

Networking Problem

Hi, currently I have a TMnet Router (only 1 LAN port) and a 2Wire wireless router (Singnet). Is it possible to link them up together so that i may have wireless access? If so, how do I do it? I've tried plugging the LAN cable from the TMnet Router to the LAN port on the wireless one. But it wouldn't work

setup: TMnet Router > Wireless Router > My computers

The wireless router has a modem function too, BUT I don't have the password of the TMNET account. Landlord forgot his password. The password is saved in the TMnet router, so the only way i can access the internet is through this.

Printing on large banner

Hi, I will be working on a design to be printed on a large banner. Maybe around 3m x 1m. Suppose I create it in Photoshop, do I have to use the exact canvas size? (1m x 3m) (300 dpi?)

I don't think my pc can handle such a large document size. Is there a workaround for this?

Building a SFF PC

I'm planning to build a SFF based system. Actually wanted to go for an i5 but couldn't do so because of the lack of m-atx i5 boards. This new PC will mainly be used for designing (Adobe suite, CAD), video editing and gaming. I chose to go for an m-atx system because i travel around frequently. I need some suggestions from you guys.

1) What processor should i go for? I guess i have to choose between PhenomII and C2Q. Or is there any chance i can squeeze an i5 or i7 into my budget. Need some help to make up my mind. Also please recommend an accompanying m-atx mobo.

2) Graphic card. Should i go for a mid range ati 5 series or get a 4870?

3) SFF casing. budget for this is around 250.

Total budget is rm3000 excluding monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Graphic Glitches

I'm experiencing some problems with my graphics while running games. It's kind of hard to describe so i've attached some screenshots.

more:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Those pillars/spikes/strings are not supposed to be in the game. They occur randomly and may come out of the ground or be stuck to your character's limbs. These glitches do not hinder my character's movement; it could just walk right through them as if they are not there. They appear only after a few minutes of gameplay, and would only go away after i alt-tab to windows and back. However, a few minutes later, they will appear once again, thus the cycle continues.

I've updated to the latest Nvidia drivers and direct x 9. However, the glitches do not occur on some games (perhaps those that use less system resources) like World of Warcraft and Fifa09. I started noticing this problem around 2 months ago. Prior to that, everything ran fine except for certain mildly similar issues with Assassin Creed (6-7 months ago). This problem does not happen only to newly-installed games. Games which ran flawlessly before have now been plagued with these mysterious lines.

What is the cause of this problem? Is it hardware of software based?

screenshot of my nvidia properties page:

*my system specifications are on my sig (now with 3gb of ram). everything is running at stock speeds (gc factory overclocked)

Fussy Computer

Ok...so here's my problem:

Yesterday when i returned home, i found my pc had hanged. (screen frozen, hdd light not on) I've experience this a couple of times before, so I proceeded to restart my pc without giving it a thought. However my reset button wasn't responding and i had to hold down the power button to turn my pc off. (which isn't normal)

Then to my horror, my lcd monitor (sony) did not detect a signal when i turned on the pc again. I tried troubleshooting by changing the power cables, dvi cable, reattaching the gc, cleaning the internals, and giving my monitor a couple of knocks. However it was all to no avail.

I suspected that either my monitor or gc was faulty, so i hooked up an old 15' crt monitor. It worked! However when i set up the crt on my desk (i tested it on the floor) it did not detect a signal like the lcd.

To cut a long story short, i discovered that my monitors will only work while on the floor. Anyone can give some pointers about the cause of this problem? I doubt it's the cables because i've already replaced them and made sure they are tight. Now i'm sitting on the floor and straining my back to type this.

Another weird thing is that when my monitor was down, so were my keyboard and mouse (no light). However the internals were running (hdd, case fans, gc fan)

Hey, i just reloaded my Digi prepaid phone with rm30 (reload card). My line was inactive for around 4 days. Upon entering the reload number, they sent a message saying my line will be unbarred in 10 mins.

Now, 1hr later, I get the message "please check operator services" when I try to send an sms.
However, I'm able to make calls.

What is happening?
Upgrading my PC

Hey guys,

I've been thinking about upgrading my 2 year old rig since i'll be taking it with me when i move to campus.

My current specs are: (can check my sig too)

Intel c2d e6300 1.8 ghz
Gigabite p965 DS3
Galaxy 7900GS
3 gb of 667mhz rams ( 1gb x 2 | 512mb x2)
160gb + 320gb x 2 hdds
Acbel 450w PSU
and a wrecked Sony dvd writer

My budget is not set but should be kept as low as possible (<rm2k). A good performance-to-price ratio is what i'm looking for; i need to stretch the ringgit as far as possible. minyak sudah naik

The main thing i'm going for is the processor, as i'll be using AutoCAD alot. Other apps i use are Photoshop and Premiere. Gaming is only secondary to these.

Is it advisable to upgrade, or can my current setup hold its worth for another year or so?
I'm actually quite satisfied with my rig's performance, considered it is almost 2 years old. However i am afraid it might not handle AutoCAD smoothly, which i will be using a lot in the near future. I also do lots of video editing using Adobe Premier, and being able to render vids quicker would help considerably. My current rig is still able to run the latest games (COD 4, Assassins Creed, Crysis, GRiD) smoothly at medium settings, which i don't mind. However i'm looking forward to Starcraft 2 and GTA4, and i would like my rig to have enough juice to play them at mid-high settings.

What i'm looking for:
1. processor.
i.) I'm considering an e7200 or e8400. Are they sufficient for heavy AutoCAD usage? Is there a great difference between the two?
ii.) Are there any alternative suggestions for the processor? Any good ones from the AMD camp?
iii.) Should i go for Quad core instead?

2. motherboard. (only if it is necessary to change)
- Please recommend one for me. Overclocking is not my priority; just looking for a mobo that is reliable and decently-priced.

3. rams.
- Can i re-use my old rams? (667mhz)

4. graphic card. (if my budget permits)
- Any suggestions?

5. psu (if required)
- Can my 450watt Acbel handle the upgrades?

6. sff casing (if i find a suitable one within my budget)
- Looking for one that can hold a gc, 3-4 hdd's, firewire card, and a normal sized psu.
Problems detecting and formatting internal HDD

Hi

I bought a 320GB Hitachi SATA2 hard disk around 2 weeks ago. I tried to format it but i encountered a message saying "The format did not complete successfully". I tried using a variety of settings (quick format, enable compression, changing the drive letter) but it all did not work. I even used Arconis Disk Director but the same problem occurred .

The situation became worse when after a few reboots and unsuccessful formats, my computer could not detect the hard disk. (both Windows and BIOS)

I then sent it back to the shop, but after some testing, they couldn't find any problems.

I brought it back and like before, i could detect the hdd at first. But after a couple of rounds of failed formats and reboots, i couldn't detect it.

I sent it back to the shop for the second time, got the same answer from them. But this time i asked them to format it for me.

Now once again the hdd is back in my com, and as usual it can't detect the damn thing.

What do i do now? I've tried every possible way to troubleshoot it save reinstalling Windows and updating BIOS. Hope you guys can help me.

My com specs:
Windows XP service pack 2
C2D e6300 (stock speed)
Gigabyte ds3 @ F4 bios
160GB SATA2 hdd (partitioned into 120gb[windows] and 40gb)
rest are stated in my signature.

As stated in the topic, my Premier often crashes when i'm in the middle of rendering/exporting a movie. This only happens when i save it as Microsoft DV AVI/ Microsoft AVI format. So far i have never experienced any problems when rendering into Quicktime format.

I'm freaking fustrated, having spent hours late into the night working on a project...only to find out that i can't render it. Look at my post time.

Anyone knows what's wrong? Is it a hardware, codec, problems with my settings or my installation of Adobe Premier fxxked up?

I have a Sony oem 16x16 dvd-ram writer. Recently i noticed that it takes ages to transfer files to my hard disk. Currently i'm copying a 700+mb file to my hdd, and it's taking 11 minutes. I've also notice that some installations are quite slow.

Is there a problem with my dvd writer? Or are all dvd writers like that?

Can it be a problem with my motherboard settings?
