Johari open to EVs for ministers, but says charging network must come first

KUALA LUMPUR: Cabinet minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani says he is open to Cabinet ministers using electric vehicles (EVs) as part of a cost-cutting measure amid the ongoing global oil crisis

He added that it must be backed by proper nationwide infrastructure.

"Where are you getting the public chargers? They must be available throughout the country, just like petrol stations. Only then will people feel comfortable using EVs,” the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said at a Concorde Club dialogue session at Wisma Bernama here on Tuesday (April 28).

He was asked whether the government and Cabinet ministers are prepared to implement cost-cutting measures, including using EVs as official cars, amid the ongoing global oil crisis.

"My stand on this actually is: let’s build the infrastructure together.

"Those people who want to use EVs, we welcome them. Those car manufacturers that want to produce EVs are also welcome.

"Even if they want to produce it overseas, they are subject to the same CBU taxes that we have. The rules apply equally to all countries in the world," said Johari.

In the past four years, Johari said the government had given special exemptions for EVs.

"From 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, whoever brings in CBU EV cars enjoys zero import duty, zero excise duty and zero sales tax. That is how the government created a window for four years.

"Unfortunately, within those four years, we have not seen infrastructure development widely available, especially in rural areas, kampung areas and so on," he said.

The session, chaired by Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, discussed the topic of "War and Tariffs: Our Response.

PDRM suggests compulsory dashcams, says it’s time for MoT to consider – incentives for those who report

PDRM is considering a suggestion to make dashcams compulsory for all road users as part of an effort to strengthen enforcement and road safety.

Mohd Rozi Jidin, deputy director I (enforcement/traffic control/saman management) at JSPT Bukit Aman said that for now, dashcams are still considered an accessory and are not compulsory, but it is time for that to be reassessed by the authorities, especially the transport ministry. He adds that the suggestion is for the public to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the authorities.

“It’s time that our country can perhaps set conditions or obligations (syarat atau kewajipan). For now it’s not compulsory, more to an accessory, but perhaps it’s time for us to make it compulsory so that all road users can be the eyes of the authorities, where offences can be recorded and reported,” he told Astro Awani yesterday.

Mohd Rozi also said that JSPT is planning a mechanism that will offer merit or incentive to individuals who report traffic offences via dashcam recordings. He gave an example of future saman discounts for those who are active in sending information.

“This is still in JSPT’s planning in the context of dashcams. Maybe when it’s the time for saman discounts, those who didn’t report (offences via dashcam) won’t get it, but those who did so have an advantage,” he said, adding that JSPT has received positive feedback from the community in support of widening the use of dashcams in enforcement.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 — A woman believed to be from China has drawn widespread attention on social media after a video alleged that she had been living at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for about a year.

The video, shared by a Threads user, features a voiceover claiming that the woman had been eating, sleeping and bathing at the airport during that period.

In the footage, the woman is seen becoming visibly agitated, allegedly after children were playing near her.

She is shown scolding or speaking loudly to another passenger, while a woman dressed in a brown T-shirt and jeans appeared to be trying to calm her down.

Caught with their pants down: Prosecutor, surgeon among 201 detained at 'men only' vice raid

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 201 men were detained during a joint enforcement operation at a wellness centre along Jalan Raja Laut after authorities suspected the premises was being used for illicit activities.

The men, aged between 19 and 60, were picked up at around 8pm on Friday (Nov 28) in a surprise raid involving Kuala Lumpur police, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi).

Of those detained, 17 were identified as civil servants, including a surgeon, a deputy public prosecutor, an administrative and diplomatic officer (PTD), a teacher and several enforcement officers.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Azani Omar said intelligence and surveillance on the two-storey premises had been conducted for two weeks following public complaints.

"Investigations revealed that immoral activities were allegedly taking place on the premises involving male patrons,” he said at the scene.

The centre, which operated under the guise of a health and wellness facility equipped with a gym, sauna, spa, swimming pool and designated rest areas catering specifically for men, is believed to have been running for the past eight months, DCP Azani said.

"Customers were charged a RM10 lifetime registration fee and RM35 per visit.

"We believe the operators promoted the centre through social media, where patrons would connect and mingle,” he said.

The arrests included locals as well as individuals from South Korea, Indonesia, Germany and China.

DCP Azani said police are investigating the case under Section 387B of the Penal Code for offences related to unnatural sexual acts.

Jawi also detained 80 Muslim men under Section 29 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997 for indecent behaviour in a public place.

The centre reportedly operated daily from 5pm until late at night, targeting patrons seeking to unwind after work.

All detainees were taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters for further action.

Checks revealed that the venue had been widely discussed online among groups seeking social connections, with some visitors claiming the centre offered “special services”.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor is expected to begin adopting nuclear energy as a clean power source in five years’ time, the state assembly heard today.
Menteri besar Amirudin Shari said Selangor is in the early stages of exploring the technology, including building technical expertise.

“The earliest would be in about five years. Right now, we’re focused on capacity-building, including sending officers trained in nuclear-related fields (overseas).

“We will also consult local universities. Several institutions, including Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, have reached out to explore possible collaborations,” he said, Bernama reported.

He was replying to Mariam Abdul Rashid (PH-Meru) on the state’s plans and timeline for full implementation of nuclear-based clean energy.

Amirudin said as nuclear studies remain underdeveloped in Malaysia, the nation is sending some students to seek opportunities abroad.

“I have personally met with our students at Tsinghua University in China. They are exploring the field on their own because nuclear energy is still seen here as a ‘sin sector’, unfit for exploration.

“But the future demands preparedness. We cannot rely solely on fossil fuels like gas and coal, which are less sustainable compared to nuclear (energy),” he said.

He said safety, potential leak risks and public perception remain key issues that must be clearly addressed, adding that Germany’s experience offers valuable lessons for Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: The fee to be levied soon on motorists entering Jalan Genting Highlands should not be called a toll but a vehicle charge, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

The Deputy Works Minister told the Dewan Rakyat that the term “toll” is confusing, as Jalan Genting Highlands is built on private land.

“Do not use the term ‘toll,’ it will cause confusion with the 33 toll concessions currently operating on highways in the country. I hope it can be changed to ‘vehicle charges’ instead,” he said during the ministry’s winding-up speech at the committee stage of the Supply Bill 2026.

Ahmad was responding to a supplementary question from Young Syefura Othman (PH–Bentong), who wanted to know what measures the government would take to prevent similar charges being imposed on roads built on private land but largely accessible to the public.

He added that since Jalan Genting Highlands is a privately owned road, jurisdiction over the land and road lies with the state government and the Bentong Municipal Council.

“The Works Minister (Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi) has issued a statement on this matter, stating that it is a private road and the federal government has no authority.

“It is for the state government and the Bentong Municipal Council to ensure the implementation (of the vehicle charges),” he added.

Ahmad also said that those who must use the private road, such as workers, should not be subjected to any vehicle charges.

“What are the consequences if Genting Highlands decides to impose charges? If the fees are high, tourists will go elsewhere, and that is a risk they have to face.

“Personally, I believe that those who use the private road to go to work should not be charged. The Aminuddin Baki Institute is also located there; they should not be charged.

“There are also other landowners in the area to whom Genting may have sold land; the matter (of vehicle charges) should have been discussed with them,” he added.

Last Thursday, Genting Malaysia Bhd announced that it will soon charge vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands, citing steep and escalating costs of maintaining the 24km road and its slopes, which the company has borne since the 1960s.

Privately built by Genting Malaysia on challenging mountainous terrain, Jalan Genting Highlands provides safe access to Resorts World Genting and other mountain destinations beyond Genting Malaysia’s properties.

Today is truly the worst day of my life.

As the eldest son, seeing the situation today, I am truly exhausted.

I just finished Semester 1 of Broadcasting at TAR UMT, and I don't know if I should continue studying. Is it still possible to apply for PTPTN (National Higher Education Fund)?

Will my parents still be able to support my university expenses in the future?

There are no answers to these questions right now.

But I know one thing: I cannot remain silent.

Today, I choose to write this out, Not for pity, not to gain attention, But to warn everyone:

Do not easily trust those from the so-called "finance circle."

Do not listen to methods like "borrowing to pay off loans" or "exploiting bank loopholes."

Do not let others push you into a deeper abyss when you are desperate.

These people will not help you; they will only take advantage of you.

Once you fall into their trap, you will end up like my father, spiraling towards destruction step by step.

I hope everyone who sees this article can take it as a real-life wake-up call.

Your family, your future, are more important than any "quick fix."

Don't lose everything just to maintain appearances. I wish all families peace and safety. May all parents not have to resort to desperate measures to support their families. May all children not have to experience what I feel today.

Saya amat bimbang terhadap masalah kesesakan lalu lintas yang bakal timbul apabila Projek Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link antara Johor Bahru dan Singapura mula beroperasi. Sehingga kini, tiada penyelesaian menyeluruh disediakan bagi menampung peningkatan jumlah trafik — termasuk pelaksanaan sistem ART bertingkat (elevated ART) atau alternatif pengangkutan lain di kawasan sekitar Bukit Chagar.

Kerajaan Persekutuan memaklumkan bahawa tiada peruntukan mencukupi untuk menampung kos penyelenggaraan sekiranya penyelesaian bertingkat sepenuhnya dilaksanakan. Namun begitu, Pulau Pinang mampu memperoleh projek LRT yang jauh lebih mahal berbanding sistem ART.

Saya juga memantau secara rapat perkembangan beberapa projek kesihatan utama di negeri Johor — termasuk Hospital Pasir Gudang yang telah lewat siap, isu-isu di Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA), serta kelewatan projek Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 (HSA2).

Saya berharap agar masalah-masalah ini dapat diselesaikan dengan segera dan Johor tidak lagi seolah-olah diketepikan.

I am deeply concerned about the traffic congestion that is expected to arise once the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link between Johor Bahru and Singapore begins operation. To date, no comprehensive solution has been presented to accommodate the expected increase in traffic — including the implementation of an elevated ART system or other alternative transport options around the Bukit Chagar area.

The Federal Government has stated that there are insufficient funds to cover maintenance costs should a fully elevated system be implemented. Yet, Penang has been able to secure the LRT project that is significantly more expensive than the ART system.

I am also closely monitoring the progress of several major healthcare projects in Johor — including the delayed completion of Pasir Gudang Hospital, ongoing issues at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA), and the delays in the Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 (HSA2) project.

I hope these issues can be resolved promptly and that Johor does not seem to be neglected further.

After a few days of rest, I sorted through and looked at these photos of a process I experienced firsthand. I'm thankful my sister and I are still alive. therwise, we would have been burned to death.

The day before...
A small problem came up, so I quickly...
It still ended up catching fire!!

It is fucking awful. Woke up in the middle of the night and I’m now are not getting sleep back as it is too terrible.

I know it’s not true but the dream are so realistic compared to my dreams before, this dream are emotional. The sadness, loneliness and terrifying are haunted even when I woke up for an hour.

Want to share with Waifu but she is sleeping beauty currently, don’t want interrupt her good sleep. Want to call family but I think they will worry about me, want to call friends but this is fukxing 5am.
