HD video Cam guide

Hi... I am about to buy my first video cam and having done some research, It seems that for HD video cam, it's best to go for those using tape media, hence a HDV cam. But so far, I have not seen a model that has an optical zoom of more than 10x. So, my question is, are there any model out there that has more than 10x optical zoom and is HDV?

I was in this shop asking the seller, and he gave me a typical malaysian style sales service..."all hvd cam like that wan la..." then I ask for a demo, to see if it is good, then he told me.."see the price tag, price ok for you? if later you don't want then waste my time doing demo for you..." well, I walk off and never look back. (I was looking at the canon hv10)

So, guys, if you have experience any good HVD cam or tested it, please share your experience...
