Refugee desperate to study

As per title, I have a friend who is a refugee from Syria with an outstanding academic record. ( CGPA 3.9, IELTS 8.0 ). Question is does anyone have any sources of full scholarships being sponsored to a refugee? Also, it'll be a +1 if you have any idea which uni accepts refugee as a student. Harddisk problem

As per title, once plugged in, my Seagate external hard disk prompts a connected sound for 10 seconds and disconnected on its own. On some occasions, windows will show ' USB device is not recognized ' but doesn't always happen.

I have tried:

1) Reinstall and updated all USB's in Device manager
2) Disabled USB selective suspend setting
3) Set ' Never ' in turning off harddisk power option
4) Uncheck ' allow computer to turn off hard disk to save power ' in USB Hub Power Management setting
5) Changed to a shorter USB cable
6) Tried in a different laptop
7) Tried all USB ports

Also, it should be noted that Disk Management is unable to detect my harddisk. However, on the device manager, my harddisk is only detected for 10-20 seconds.

Please advise.

As per-tittle, before reformatting my old dell laptop that runs on Windows 7, I backup all the documents on an external harddisk. After reformating, the laptop is unable to detect the externalHDD anymore. Anyone can please shed some light? Thank you.

P.S. : External hdd still works on other laptop.

Hdd suddenly stopped working

I have a WD My Passport 1 TB external HD which I purchased around a year ago. Two days ago, I copied a few files from my laptop (running Win 10) to this hard disk and then ejected it safely. I gave it to a friend of mine and he returned it back saying it is not working. When I plug it in my laptop, it gets detected on device manager but the drive does not appear on My Computer. I opened Disk Management, but it gave an error that the disk must be initialized first. When I click on OK, it gives an error The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error.. The status of this disk is Not Initialized and Unallocated.

What could be wrong? What can I do to troubleshoot this, without losing all the data in it? Any suggestions at all would be very much appreciated!
