I have those old Chinese microsoft word documents typed using twin bridges last time but I can't view them now using Windows XP & Word 2003. I believe those are stored in GB format (2 bytes). Is there anyway to convert them to unicode so I can read them? Thanks.

Any good freeware which I can install on Windows XP and it will monitor for file changes on my D: drive and keep the old versions automatically? For example, it will keep my previous copy when I update my D:\data.xls.

Disable delete button in address list in IE8

Out of memory even though ...

Hi,

I'm using Windows XP on Lenovo notebook. It has 2GB of memory.

However, I'll face out of memory issues e.g. IE cannot open new tab, photoshop cannot start etc. even though in the Windows Task manager, the available physical memory shown 900+ MB.

It is like Windows is not able to use that memory.

What should I check for?

I know media player classic allows to increase and decrease rate, e.g. can increase from 25 fps to 50 fps. But is there any movie player which we can set the rate to any fps we like?

Locked Hard Disk

If there's a laptop with password protected hard disk (password set in SETUP), if I take the hard disk out from the laptop and put it into external hard disk closure and access it via USB. What will happen? Can I access the data in it? Does it prompt for the password?

Speech recognition error message in Ms Word

Whenever I want to save a document in Microsoft Word, an error message popup up: The document was saved, but data for speech recognition was lost because there was not enough space to store it. Be sure to turn off the microphone when you are not recording, and check the available storage space on the disk.

I'm not using speech recognition. The Tools - Speech is not checked. How do I prevent this error message from poping up? I'm using a laptop and this laptop does have a built in mic. But how do I turn that off if that's the case?

I've this string

change to this

instead of

How do I correct it? What should I replace the (.*) with so it cannot contain ?

Note: Only one eregi_replace can be used so I cannot have
$str = eregi_replace("","",$str);
$str = eregi_replace("","",$str);

I want to search for threads which particular username has posted.

What I cannot understand is why this code:

MySQL connection from another PC in LAN

I've two computers e.g. 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 in my LAN.

I installed MySQL 5 on 192.168.1.3 and Apache and phpMyAdmin on both 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3

Access to the database through phpMyAdmin running on 192.168.1.3 is fast, however accessing database through phpMyAdmin running on 192.168.1.2 takes average 5 seconds per page.

I tried telnet 192.168.1.3 3306 from 192.168.1.2 and mysql only replies after 5 seconds. While telnet localhost 3306 on 192.168.1.3, mysql replies within a second.

How can I solve this issue?

How do I set up a VPN server on Linux server (RHEL4) which will allow me to connect to it via Virtual Private Network connection with a username and password from Windows XP? Then I'll be able access the internet using the IP address of the Linux server (or another IP address allocated to the server?)

Is it possible? I've googled for a while but no idea how to install and configure it. I've tried to install pptpd on the server but no idea what to do afterwards.
