[WTA] Diesel powered passenger cars

In Europe, diesel cars account for almost half of newly sold vehicles, and car shows like Top Gear, Fifth Gear inevitably recommends diesel powered models as their models of choices (e.g. e90 BMW 320d).

Here in Malaysia, I noticed most diesel vehicles are of the larger varieties (SUVs, pick ups). Although the luxury marques (BMW, Merc, Lexus) have diesel in their model line up, I have only seen 1 or 2 on the road. I don't think the bread and butter models (read entry/mid level Japanese) are offered with diesel engines; although I read somewhere the new Chevy Cruze will be offered with a 2 litre turbo diesel.

Question, would you buy one if say a Honda Civic, Toyota Vios comes with a diesel? Also, what's it like driving a modern car with a diesel engine?
