So after using the M1 MacBook Pro 8GB for a while, I was sold on the excellent user experience of MacBook & MacOS.

Since the air only has 8GB RAM & kinda old because I bought used. So I got new upgrade.

I beli at Apple TRX a 13" M3 MacBook Air with 24GB RAM.

Since I got family member working at Apple TRX, I can get 15% discount for MacBook.

15% discount more discount than education one, so I think this is the cheapest way to buy new from Apple Malaysia MacBook Air M5 with 24GB 512GB storage.

Normal price is RM5594
Edu Price is RM5149
I paid RM4716.50

After using the Air for couple of days, I genuinely think that this is the best all-rounder laptop ever existed.

Although no one asked for it, here’s a follow-up to my previous thread:

After struggling for way too long with a Windows laptop that have punggung battery life, I ended up impulse buying a used MacBook.

With tight budget max RM2000.00 (wanted to be lower then the new MacBook Neo & I poorfag ) I go searching for deals at Carousell to find a usable laptop with main goal of min/max battery life.

I ended up going with the MacBook Pro M1 (8GB RAM, 256GB storage) for RM1900. (I think this is fair price, let me know if this is scam price)

Initially, I did look into the MacBook Air M1. I maybe can save RM100–RM300 going that route. But I chose the Pro version mainly for the pro having slightly better battery life.

So far, the experience has been expectedly very positive, battery life can actually last whole work day.

Also game changer for me is I can use my shitty Baseus 20W cheap power bank topup the laptop battery. Very convenient because no need for expensive high wattage power bank that easily overheat & have short battery lifespan because high power draw.

For now at least, I’d say I’m pretty happy with the purchase.

Want to laptop max battery life.

Macbook neo vs used M1 Air

Used M1 Air can easily get for < RM2000

Which one?

I mostly do work in a browser + ssh + remote dev using vscode.

I think 8gb is enough, if i want more power i just ssh into some server / workstation.

Regret buying gaming laptop HP Victus 16 because cannot even last 2 hour.

I end up only gaming at home which defeat purpose of portable gaming laptop.

Always have awkward pause during long meeting when i have to finagle with power socket under the meeting room table.

Sometimes bang my head under the table.

Also cannot balik kampung & work at outside table at homestay.

My boss subscribe to TM 1gbps business unifi & using the supplied DPN-FX3060V fiber router. He also subscribe 5 additional static ip from TM.

My question how to do sort of like NAT translation where 1 public ip is mapped to an internet ip. is the default router even capable of handling multiple public static ips?

Ayam asks HP for 1st party battery spare part price for laptop HP ProBook 430 G8,

They quoted RM481.18 for parts only without installation.

Lead time also 3-5 weeks. They need bring back old factory & machine just to manufacture my one battery?

My Ideapad S340 with an i5-8265U, 8gb ram & 256gb nvme ssd benchmarks slower than my old Dell Optiplex 3020 SFF desktop with an i5-4590 8gb ram & a 320gb hdd.

I know I'm comparing a desktop with a laptop but a quad core hyperthreaded 8th gen i5 should at least match the old 4th gen i5 performance. I tested both using Cinebench R20. The laptop scored 922 while the desktop scores a 1223. That's a 32.5% higher performance.

The laptop is set to performance mode. The laptop cpu is limited at 15W which is stupid. The laptop clearly can handle more power as the temperature under load is around 70°C - 75°C. The laptop power delivery is also proven to be capable of supplying more than 15W to the cpu. The cpu will run at ~25W for the first minute of benchmark, then it drops to 15W for the rest of the benchmark.

The cpu is held back because it can't get more power. What's the point paying for in i5 when an i3 without power restriction is not much slower.
