Changing back to programming field

Hi everyone, I am a computer science graduate and I joined a telco company as Datacom engineer (originally), but during my first day my boss switched me to RF team instead. I disliked the idea but I was too timid to tell boss what I really wanted, I was thinking why don't give this RF a try? so I have been a RF engineer for 5 months since then.

I have been assigned to a China project and stayed in this project for more than 3 months, in this project I was not given much things to do and I am very boring, even though I asked for things to do I were given nothing. Through my 5 months exposure I feel that RF would never be my future. In my Uni days (actually just 5 months ago), I used to love programming, I rejected programming job offers because I heard my lecturer said "Malaysia is in short of networking people" and joined that company instead.

Now I'm very regret, I want to back to programming, I love programming a lot and don't mind to dedicate my whole day for it. Benefits wise, my current company is top notch, my basic is quite high as a fresh graduate, plus a bunch of allowances as I stay in China right now.

I applied a application engineer job recommended by a friend through jobstreet, after waiting for a few days only to see the "not suitable" status there, without even sending an email to me to test my coding ability etc... I have no idea why... Maybe they see my position as "RF engineer" and thought this candidate is blind? or see i'm only working for 5 months already thinking to jump ship and believe I am a job hopper? I have no idea how HR see me in that situation, hopefully HRs here can answer me.

Am I a job hopper? no, I wish to stay in the company as long as I am happy, I'm someone who can be easily satisfied yet I'm getting more and more depressed right now. I just want to back to the field that I love, and enjoy my work. I don't want to waste any more time in the field that I'm not interested in, and back to programming field while my programming skills are still relevant.

Am I making monetary move? Absolutely not, I'm already prepared to get massive pay cut as I'm gonna lost all my allowances. And I don't expect the basic is as high as my currently in as well. I just want to back to programming field, is that so much to ask?

so my question is, is there any advice for people like me who joining IT (programming) field with CS background after working in other field? any advice so that HR don't reject me directly without even given me a chance to prove myself? Or maybe I should stay longer in my current job?

Thanks in advance
