HDMI connection

I got a PS3 and am planning to upgrade my TV. Right now I have a 19 inch Samsung TV, The channel with HDMI had a HDMI port with left and right audio using composite cables (white and red connectors). There is no sound if just use the HDMI cable.

Never used HDMI before so I thought HDMI is just for picture not for audio, but when I looked at the new Panasonic TV, it had 3 HDMI channels and each channel only had a HDMI port, the Panasonic guy said HDMI is both for audio and video.

So now I'm kind of confused, if HDMI is for both audio and video, why is there an optical sound port in the PS3?

Thanks if anyone help me clarify this matter.

Should the blame mostly be on the victims...

QUOTE(cherroy @ Jan 20 2010, 03:33 PM)

ok, one can blame gov lack of enforcement, but it is undeniable, it is the greed of people lead to those scam job has opportunity. BNM/SC cannot stop anyone to hand-over their money to a third party, until the third party is guilty under illegal deposit taking act.

I disagree about greed being the primary factor. Primary factor for being conned is ignorance and trusting nature.

Lack of enforcement is pitiful here, can just go to Low Yat Dispute Resolution Corner, everybody basically agrees, no point reporting to police when get conned (and some people will tell the victim he's stupid for doing business under so and so circumstances). These small time crooks go on to become big time crooks.

QUOTE(cherroy @ Jan 20 2010, 04:29 PM)

It is not a few scammer, it is tons of scammers.

I'm not talking about the small farts, I'm talking about the masterminds behind those schemes.

QUOTE(cherroy @ Jan 20 2010, 03:33 PM)

If everyone is well-informed, and know too good to be true investment is never true, and always stay away non-approved investment scheme, then those scheme won't have a chance.

Realistically speaking this can never be achieved: where everyone can be well-informed. For example a doctor may not be bothered with finance, his passion will be medicine. In that sense, of course it's easy and seem common sense for us because we've been reading up on finance everyday, but what if the doctors say we must be as well informed when it comes to medicine because our health depends on it, do we go and read medical forums everyday?

What I'm saying is people should not be burdened by having making sure the services we get in this country is legitimate or not. When we go to a clinic, we should not need to investigate first if it's a legitimate doctor or a quack. Why then if we were invited to an investment talk in broad daylight, the onus is on us that we are not scammed?

QUOTE(Nicholas Chan @ Jan 20 2010, 04:31 PM)

I see no point in sugar coating the mistakes of fools; bitter medicine always works best. And I don't see how your statement on the logic of voting in opposition for opposition sake will make this problems all disappear.

There's a lot of corruption is this ruling party because the ruling party has been in power since the country was created. Once there's a transfer in power to the opposition, as we have seen in Selangor and Penang all the can of worms started spilling out. If the opposition takes over the government, we can expect to see all sort of crap spilling out... toll agreement considered OSA... WTF? I wouldn't be surprised all these top con guys are people in the protection of politicians.

I think ruling party will be less corrupt when there are 2 strong party that have a chance to be voted into government. Right now, due to ruling party using mass media as their personal propaganda tool, the opposition need all the help they can get. I'm not interested in BN or PKR,

I'm interested in good governance, this can never be achieved, as long as one party maintains a stranglehold on power.

Do I need insurance?

Err, sorry to open yet another insurance thread...

So my case:

I'm in my early 30s, no dependants. 10 years of working I've saved about 400K, 1/3 in EPF the rest my own savings. I don't earn a lot, I started work with a salary RM2K, gradually increase to RM6K now, so I expect with higher salary and compounding working towards my benefit, in 10 years I'll have more than a million in savings, and I still have 20 years working period during which I could just use my company's medical card.

Right now I have 2 no frills insurance policy which covers some critical illness, total/partial disabilities & death for 60K each. I pay peanuts premium for them.

Now this lady, who is also doing some of my investment, been trying to get me to buy an insurance policy for quite some time, yesterday she bulldozed me to sign up for one. She's selling an AIA policy by the way.

The policy is like
-have to pay insurance company RM5K annually
-Insured up to 350K lifetime
-can't remember, but I think about max 100K each year
-insurance up to 100 years
-includes a medical card
-standard coverage 36 critical illness, death & disabilities, during which you get a lump sum
-in the event of permanant disabilities, the annual RM5K is waivered, but you still get covered
-it's sort of a savings + insurance, the savings is supposed to help to maintain the annual fee at RM5K, instead of needing to pay more as you get older.

She said later can convert the insurance to no lifetime limit policy, I told her I prefer to get that option immediately, but she kept telling me not to worry, can get it next year

But the way I asked the agent, she get's 10% of my 5K for the first 2 years, after which her cut will decrease for 4 years, and this year she sold 50 policies. She says she's trying to get into some conference in Canada where all the top insurance sales people get to go...

So I do the maths, if I save the money myself (5K a year), in 20 years I'll have close to RM200K (modest compounding rate). And if I lived 10 years more than that with no problems I should have more than 350K, which I can use as I want and don't have to worry about annual coverage limitation and etc. On top of that I'll also have my other savings.

So what would you guys advice? If I should get the insurance, can explain why, tq.

Help with Virus identification

Hi, hope soneone can help,

Our server just got hit by a worm, I think.

It hides all .doc file and replace it with a .exe file, the exe file is all the same size, about 683KB.

In the security tab, permissions there is an unknown user which I believe all these hidden .doc file belongs to. Even with an admin password I can't unhide it.

I tried deleting the exe and reapply security settings (This is Windows Server 2003, Security -> Advance) for the folder but the files remain hidden and all the exe appeared again.. This is a big mess, seems like the server OS is infected, not just the files uploaded by user through windows share.

But then again not every folder had this unknown user, the other folders seems to be not affected, just this one folder.

Right now I'm moving all the contents of this folder to a Linux samba, it'll blow away the unknown user and the document files will be normal again, but I donno if the root of the problem is fixed or not.

Right now we're using ClamWin, it identified the virus as worm.autorun-1901. it's not a comprehensive checker, I don't think it goes into the registry and clean.

Anyone experience this before? How to clean?

Maradona vs Pele

I did a search at LYN football, strange no poll on football's perennial question, who's better Maradona or Pele. People who say Pele is better, after some 'interrogation' admit one big influence in their decision is Maradona's drug problem. Personally I just judge on how he plays on the pitch, and Maradona was amazing. Pele was before I was old enough to appreciate football, I did look a youtube clips of his but can't see what's so special, but then again Maradona's youtube clip doesn't exactly do justice to the amazing stuff I saw him do on tv.

Just asking, are these prices reasonable for

Scott Sentral 400K-450K
Scott Villa 350K-400K

I know floor level and view comes into consideration, but generally speaking.

Actually even these prices not certain, agent say can only try ask owner.

Lots of people renting out Scott Sentral but not selling, some units being sold close to 500K, that's too much imo.

I am considering buying an apartment in Metroview Condo in Wangsa Maju, suprised that there are loads and loads of offer for sale ~270K to 290K,

so my question, how come everybody selling, are property investors selling off property quickly in anticipation of a economic downturn (shoring up a warchest with which they then go on a buying spree during economic down turn when property prices will drop?).

Anyway is it a good place to live? I've been to the place, although very crowded I like all the shops nearby. Any downside staying there?

Modem + Router and Gigabit Ehternet
I got an Aztec ADSL Modem Router, it go 4 physical lan ports and wireless too.

Recently I bought Dlink DNS-323, however transfer speed over the ethernet is so slow 1Mb/s. I'm not too sure about this, but I suspect it's because the Router is not a gigabit router. The NIC on my pc is a gigabit card.

So the question is, am I right, and if so is there a ADSL Modem + Router comb with Gigabit ethernet capabilities out there right now, I prefer not to have multiple devices like separate Modem and Router

Thanks
