Career Path Advice ( Ethologist )

Ethology is the scientific and objective study of animal behaviour, usually with a focus on behaviour under natural conditions, and viewing behaviour as an evolutionarily adaptive trait.

So its a bit like zoologist , but focused more on the behavioral side.My question is what kind of path should I follow to pursue this career?

Currently I'm studying Degree in Mechatronics, and personally I don't hate the course but given a choice I would definitely choose to be an Ethologist.So , in order for me to become an Ethologist , do I need to start back from Diploma or can i just change course at Masters ? I've heard people can change their course to a totally different field from Degree to Master . My previous education is Diploma on the same field.
