Governing body - Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG)

COMPETITION DESCRIPTION

- comprised of two categories:
the Individual Competition and
the Group Competition. Five gymnasts make up one Group.

-five apparatus: Rope, Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon.
However, only four of these are used in a two-year competition cycle.

In competition, individual gymnasts present four exercises corresponding to the four authorised apparatus.

Groups present two exercises:
the first with five identical apparatus,
the second with two different apparatus or
three gymnasts with one apparatus and two gymnasts with another apparatus.

Exercises are always set to music on a 13x13m mat.
The duration of an exercise for individuals is from 1.15’ to 1.30’.
Groups the duration goes up to 2.15’ to 2.30’.
A 0.05 point penalty is applied for every additional or missing second!

The apparatus must remain in motion for the duration of the exercise.
Movements must vary in form, magnitude, direction, level and speed.
The apparatus must be handled in a variety of ways and may not be used as a decorative accessory.
There must be an ongoing relationship between the gymnast and the apparatus.
The composition of an exercise is based on certain basic body group movements (leaps, pivots, balance, and flexibility) as well as technical groups.

Hoop
The hoop may be made of plastic or wood.
Its interior diameter is from 80 to 90 cm; its minimum weight is 300 grams.
The hoop must be rigid enough to retain its shape.

The fundamental groups of body movement for hoop are jumps/leaps, pivots, balance and flexibility.
The technical groups for hoop are the rolls over the body or on the floor, rotations around the hand
or other parts of the body, throws and catches and passing over or through the hoop.
Handling the apparatus includes swings, circles and figure eights.
Hoop is the apparatus offering the greatest variety of movements and technical skills.
It must be used on all levels and planes.
Any vibration of the hoop in the air is penalized.

Ball
It’s made of rubber or a synthetic material. It is 18-20 cm in diameter and weights 400g.
The fundamental groups of body movement for ball are the Flexibility elements.
The technical groups for ball include throws and catches, bouncing and rolling over the body or on the floor. Handling includes “thrusts”, swings, circles, figure eight or “flip overs”.

Ball is by tradition an elegant and “lyrical” rather than a dynamic apparatus.
The ball should rest in the gymnast’s hand and not against the wrist, all the time during performance;
no grip is allowed, the movement should be flowing and sensuous.

Clubs
They are 40-50cm long and weight 150gram each and should be made of wood or synthetic material.
The fundamental groups of body movement for clubs are the balance elements.
The technical groups for clubs include mills, small circles, throws and catches and tapping.
Handling includes “thrusts”,figure eights and asymmetric movements.

Clubs are a great “hand – game”! Their handling requires rhythmic work, psychomotor coordination
and clockwork precision. Clubs are especially popular with ambidextrous gymnasts.

Ribbon
At World Championships it was first introduced in Cuba 1971.
The ribbon, made of satin (or a similar material without starch) is at least 6m long and 4-6cm wide.
The stick is of 1 cm diameter and a length from 50 to 60 cm.
It is usually made of wood, bamboo, plastic or fibreglass. Its maximum weight is 35 grams.

The fundamental groups of body movement for ribbon are the Pivots.
The technical groups for ribbon are the “snakes”, spirals, throws and catches, small tosses.
Handling includes “thrusts”, swings, circles and figure eights.

The movements with the ribbon should be large and free flowing.
Any knots in the ribbon are penalized.
Its function is to create clearly outlined designs in space.
Working with the ribbon requires strength of the shoulder and arm muscles.

Rope
The rope is made of hemp or other synthetic material.
Its length is proportional to the gymnast’s height.
Rope is considered to be a very dynamic apparatus requiring good jumping abilities and explosiveness.
The fundamental groups of body movement for rope are: jumps / leaps, skips and hops.
The technical groups for rope are jumps and skips passing into the rope, rotations,
throws and catches and small tosses.

Handling the apparatus includes swings, circles, figure eights and “sails”.
Rope is a very dynamic apparatus requiring agility, jumping ability and coordination.
The rope’s shape throughout the routine should remain well designed, without any curves.

Before the first worlds championships (1963)
During the 1920’ RG gymnasts wore skirts (but longer than now).
In the 1930’,they wore shorts and since the 1950’, leotards.

Until 1992
The gymnasts’ outfit are strictly defined by rules. There are usually with one or two colours only.
And gymnasts who are supposed to wear an indecent leotards could be sanctioned in there mark!
At the 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona, the Bulgarian Maria Petrova had a deduction of 0.20 points for having her zip went down! The same thing happened to the Bulgarian group because we could saw the shoulders blade of the girls.

1993-1996
Unitards appear in RG. The first who wore an unitard in a RG world competition was Ekaterina Serebrianskaya (Ukr).

1997-2000
Gymnasts could wear gold and silver leotards since 1997. The leotards became more flashy and transparent.
They become truly artistic (like figure skating costumes) and look like less sports gears, being more and more different from artistic gymnastic leos.

Since 2001
Skirts have been allowed in RG competition, requested by Irina Viner. The Russian girls were the first to wear skirts (Kabaeva, Tchachina) in competition. Almost everybody have skirts now and gymnasts even combine unitards or tights with skirts. As the skirts are very expensive, the gymnasts resell their leotards. It is very frequent seeing different gymnasts wearing the same leo, even when they are from different countries. In the same way, the skirts of the most known gymnasts, drawn by designers, are often copied.

K-Pop sifus... I need ur help.... :D

Dear all K-pop sifus.. gurus...

I need help in searching for a k-pop song...

today i was in tesco scott garden, near the pc speakers section,
a sales guy was playing k pop MV using the laptop n blast the song
using those display speakers.

I was looking at other stuffs near by, and a song caught my attention..
so i just whip out my phone, started the idiot Sound Hound, and recorded
two samples.. wasn't connected at that time, went home use the wifi..

but the %^@#)*_*&@! sound hound said can't find, and straight away removed the sample..
then i try again, it said no connection... WTH! ... then took a long time, and no result,
both the samples are gone....
I din noe sound hound will remove the samples if it can't find results.. damn... !

All I can remember of the song is...
1. K-pop.
2. Female vocals
3. not sure if group or solo, i caught a glimpse of the laptop ( from far), saw a line of girls dancing...?

4. style of singing... n vocals

the female vocal is not like the usual/normal K-pop girl groups, that is
soft n girly, girlish, cutie type...
It is kinda more powerful type....

The style of singing, at some point is a few vocals layered...?
It has a slight resembles of this song ( example below ), at that point, the only song
that comes to my mind is this song " Its raining men "
tho the K- vocals are not as powerful, the style is like the chorus of this song..
" Its raining men " by The Weather Girls ( my impression at tht time.. )

I hope anyone can give me suggestions, then i can go listen n check whether it is that song that i came across, ( hopefully I still remembers )
